    Show notes

Welcome to episode 1993 of the Italian Wine Podcast, Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon. Today, he is interviewing Jacopo Gubert of Ager Patris

The winery is awarded the Best Biodynamic Sparkling Wine 2024 Trophy for Asolo Prosecco Docg Superiore Spumante Dosaggio Zero Sui Lieviti Vino Biologico 2022, in Wine Without Walls, a section of 5StarWines – the Book wine selection in 2024

    More about today’s winery:

Ager Patris, located in the picturesque region of Santa Maria in Colle, Treviso, is a remarkable estate dedicated to cultivating vines with the utmost respect for natural balances. This unique location produces organic Asolo DOCG Prosecco and Rosé sparkling wine from Raboso grapes, offering a delightful taste of tradition and innovation. The history of Ager Patris stretches back over two millennia, rooted in a land that once hosted a pre-Roman villa. Archaeological excavations have unearthed vases, amphorae, and jewelry from both pre-Christian and medieval times, adding a layer of historical richness to the estate.

The decision to preserve this historically significant area, situated at the heart of the estate, underscores a commitment to protecting and honoring the past. This dedication is reflected in the name "Ager Patris," which translates from Latin to "the land of the father." This name not only signifies respect for history but also symbolizes a legacy that the estate aims to pass on to future generations.

Beginning in the 8th century B.C., Greek expansion into Italy fostered the spread of winemaking innovation in the South and Sicily, bringing improvements and changes in both viticulture and winemaking. Ep. 1985 Alice Barera interviews Marina Marcarino | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner Jun 27, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 1985 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors’ Corner – In this episode, Alice Barera interviews Marina Marcarino. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! In this interview, Alice covers the learning objective: “A deeper perspective on the biodynamic practices used at Punset winery, an understanding of the most important characteristics of the Langhe terroir and the importance of Marina’s approach in preserving it.”

    Co-Moderator -

Alice Barera is a New York based Italian Wine Ambassador. Born and raised in alto (alto) Piemonte, Alice holds a Master in Business Management at the University of Bologna Business School and pursued an international career intertwined between wine sales, marketing and hospitality. She loves making Italian wine simple and accessible for whoever is willing to listen to her stories.

    Connect:

    Instagram alice.barera

    LinkedIn LinkedIn.com/alicebarera

    Guest Bio -

Marina started dreaming of becoming a winemaker when she was a child, as her paternal grandmother let her help with the wine-making process. In the vineyards she learned the life cycle of the vines, in the cellar she tasted small sips of wine to understand the differences between the varieties. She then realised she was really interested in this world when, on attending university, she discovered organic agriculture and with its methods a new authentic way to be in close contact with her vines, thus turning cultivation into a bond of reciprocal respect.

Despite her commitment and passion, the first impact was hard: the first organic harvest went lost, but this did not discourage her. Marina continued on her way with determination, pursuing her ideas and her choice over the years.

So we come to the present day: Punset is now considered one of the pioneers of organic growing in Piedmont and a point of reference for the village of Neive and its area, thanks to more than 30 years of experience and to excellent results.

In addition to her commitment in the vineyards, at the end of the ‘80s Marina went to the States to gain experience in the marketing field, which was key to her becoming manager of her own winery, thus leading it to become one of the top producers of the area.

Ep. 1984 Peter and Henri Greig of Pipers Farm  | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon Jun 25, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 1984 of the Italian Wine Podcast, Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon. In this episode Marc chats to Peter and Henri Greig about the history and development of Pipers Farm, their 52-acre family farm in Devon, discussing their commitment to biodiversity and ethical farming practices, the unique landscape of the Devon hills, and the direct relationships they have forged with their customers and neighbouring farmers.

    More about today’s guest:

Peter & Henri Greig are the founders of Pipers Farm. Pipers Farm was established in 1989, and has since been a destination for meat that is produced sustainably and in harmony with nature. Today the company employs around 50 people from the local area who work across the Butchery, Fulfilment Centre and at Pipers Farm HQ, all based in Devon.

The company works directly with 50 small-scale, family farms who produce grass fed beef, lamb, and mutton, properly free range chicken, pigs, ducks and Christmas poultry, and wild venison and game during the season. Alongside the meat, they work with small scale fisherman catching sustainable seafood out of Brixham harbour, overseen by Mitch Tonks at Rockfish, and they sell an ever-growing range of ethical and sustainable dairy, artisan cheese, bread, pulses, small batch jams and chutneys.

Their mission remains the same: to produce food that their customers can trust completely while providing a future for small-scale, family farms working in harmony with nature. By focusing on each individual farm and the opportunities their land presents, they are able to support these businesses in diversifying their operations and provide a guaranteed and simple route to market. It’s proof that when it comes to farming, big isn’t necessarily better.
