Ep. 935 Alberto Pezzuoli | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon Jun 06, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 935 Marc Millon interviews Alberto Pezzuoli of the Azienda Agricola Pezzuoli, in this special 5Star Wines & Wine Without Walls episode of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon on the Italian Wine Podcast. This is part of a special sub series in which Marc interviews the winners of the competition in the coming weeks!

    More about today’s winery:

Their cellar has existed since 1932, and they have been winemakers for four generations. The winery is family run. The first office was in Carpi. After the Second World War Alberto’s grandfather moved the production to Maranello.

Since then they have continued to develop, following innovation, always with a view to optimizing product quality.

Farmers for three generations, always rooted in the fertile soils of the hills and plains of Modena, at Cantina Pezzuoli they take care of the DOC vines of the famous Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce, of which they own the first vine registered in the DOC register, and also the vines of Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro and other great wines. Only in this way can one of the most extraordinary examples of alcoholic fermentation be obtained, through skillful vinification in the cellar at strictly controlled temperature and humidity, as tradition dictates, creating excellent Lambrusco.

Ep. 932 Giovannella Stianti Mascheroni | On The Road With Stevie Kim Jun 03, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 932 - another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today's episode is set in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, in Italy's wine heartland. Stevie Kim visits the town and spends some time interviewing Giovanna Stianti Mascheroni and her daughter Federica Mascheroni Stianti. They talk about the winery, the vineyards and taste some wines!

This is a 2 part interview. Today's interview is Part 1 of 2

More about Fattoria Castello di Volpaia Winery:

The first documents that mention Volpaia date back to 1172, where today wines are produced using organic farming. Already included among the three best wines in the world by Wine Spectator Volpaia is known all over the world for the uniqueness of its cellars hidden in the walls of the ancient fortified village. Volpaia has villas, apartments and rooms for rent, organizes cooking schools and tastings.

"The Volpaia area is a unique terroir in the Chianti Classico area.

The vineyards around 45 hectares are over 400 m. above sea level. on predominantly sandstone soils rich in skeleton suitable for the production of elegant and long-lived reds, harmonious and aristocratic wines that manage to maintain the fruity aromas of the best Sangiovese for a long time.

Typical wines of the so-called "Alto Chianti" and easily recognizable for the composite elegance of their bouquet referable not only to the microclimate of the area, but also to the very particular clonal selection carried out by the farm which led to the rediscovery and re-grafting of ancient autochthonous Sangiovese strains. This long process has led to the creation of 3 Crus: Coltassala, Il Puro and Balifico, each with its own distinctive features."

    Ep. 929 Travel In A Bottle | wine2wine Business Forum 2021 Jun 01, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 929; Travel in a Bottle, Virtual Tasting in the Time of Lockdown and Beyond

Welcome to Wine2Wine Business Forum 2021 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide.

    About today’s session:

As travel was not possible during the months of Lockdown, many involved in the world of wine found new ways to connect. The aim of this session is to look at the different ways people in wine have connected through virtual wine tastings during Lockdown and identify some of the benefits for various sectors: wine journalists and writers, wine educators, wine students, wine sellers, wine consumers.

The ability to connect with producers, customers, educators, students at a time when travel has not been permitted has been vital for many businesses and it seems that the connections made through utilizing new media (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc) will be here to stay, even after life returns to ‘normal’.

This presentation seeks to explore the benefits for the various sectors as well as some of the difficulties and downsides. To achieve this, Marc Millon surveyed about 50 people across the industry and will be analyzing the results. His hope is that the session will lead to a lively discussion as people attending relate their own experiences. It will be very interesting to hear your thoughts from the point of view of a wine producer.
