Ep. 1107 Francesco Rigetti | On The Road Edition With Stevie Kim Sep 30, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 1107, another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. This episode is part of a mini-series dedicated to Lugana DOC and the winners of 5StarWines and the Wine Without Walls selection.

Today’s episode is set in Monteci, a family winery from the Lugana DOC Consortium, not far from Verona. Here Stevie sits down with Francesco Righetti and together they taste their award-winning biorganic wine which scored 95 points in the 2022 5StarWines and Wine Without Wall selection.

    More about today’s winery:

Monteci is the antique nickname, going back more than a century ago, which was given back then to the Righetti family in the Valpolicella region, and which is highly used today to represent the profound bond with its roots. For generations, Righetti family has owned and managed an important agricultural patrimony which takes in about 200 hectares only of vines, situated in the best areas of the Veneto region. Of these 200, 70 hectares are situated in the historic area of the Classic Valpolicella to produce the most renowned wines such as Amarone and Ripasso, and 45 hectares in the Lugana area cultivating the perfect grape for same name white wine which has recently had a lot of success on international markets.

Ep. 1102 Carlo Paoloni | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 1102 in which Marc Millon interviews Carlo Paoloni of th Tombolini winery, in this installent of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon on the Italian Wine Podcast.

    More about today’s guest:

Established in 1921 in the Marche region, Tombolini – a family owned estate – is one of the most historical names of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. Already in the 50s Giovanni Tombolini fully understood the potential of this autochthonous white. He focused on vinification in steel, imports winemaking skills from Piedmont and carefully selects the best grapes. He is among the firsts to have adopted the “amphora” bottle, icon of the denomination. With the brand Castelfiora, which he produces in the newly built winery in Staffolo (1972), he has writen an important chapter in the history of the denomination. In the 90s, his daughter Fulvia Tombolini extended the (Verdicchio) vineyard to 30 hectares and started their journey towards sustainable viticulture. In 2013, the call of the land became irresistible for Carlo Paoloni, son of Fulvia, who quit his job in investment banking in London to devote himself to the family business. With the 2020 vintage, he launched a project focused on exalting the unique terroir of Staffolo and experimenting with new winemaking techniques. Symbol of the new course is the Tombolini "100 years" amphora, a proprietary bottle created to contain only the best Verdicchios from the Tombolini estate.

    Ep. 1100 Nicole Rolet | Uncorked Sep 24, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 1100, in which host Polly Hammond interviews Nicole Rolet, this week on Uncorked.

This week, we are joined by the lovely and talented Nicole Rolet, CEO and driving force behind Chene Bleu. We forego wine-talk and instead jump directly into the blood, sweat, and tears of building a modern luxury brand. From solving spreadsheets and finding the right partners, to acting strategically and overcoming fear of rejection, we’re talking about the non-obvious demands (and rewards!) of our industry. Let’s get into it.

    More about today’s guest:

    Nicole Rolet

Nicole left her career in International finance and David Rockefeller’s geopolitical think tanks, to join her husband Xavier and his family in the Rhone to restore a historical vineyard, derelict but magnificently wild, and its abandoned Medieval prior – a hidden gem in the heart of a UNESCO biosphere. Increasingly convinced of the site’s exciting potential to produce Grand Cru-quality wine, she studied at WSET then UC Davis, and called upon her inner entrepreneur to transform this medieval Sleeping Beauty into a cutting-edge wine estate. Chêne Bleu wines were launched in 2010 to critical acclaim. She remains deeply committed to reconciling business success, social responsibility, ethical and sustainable practices, pushing the boundaries of sustainability. Knighted as Chevalier de Tastevin in Burgundy and the Echansonnerie in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, she co-founded the International Grenache Symposium and Association in 2010, then a wine school, and founded FM4FW in 2017.

She’s an advisor to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, host of Uncorked with the Italian Wine Podcast, cohost of the Real Business of Wine with Robert Joseph, and, occasionally, a knitter.

Polly is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned degrees in International Relations and French. Those studies led to a deep and abiding love affair with behavioral Economics, and her wine work is based on insights into all the crazy and irrational reasons consumers engage with brands.
