    Ep. 1247 The Challenging US Market | wine2wine Business Forum 2021 Jan 26, 2023
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 1247; The Wine Consumer in a Challenging U.S. Market

Welcome to wine2wine Business Forum 2021 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide.

    About this Session

There has never been a more difficult time to sell wine in the U.S. At the same time the wine industry is dealing with a pandemic, historic drought, wildfires, and channel shifting to name a few, it is also dealing with an onslaught of attacks from the anti-alcohol movement while discovering a rotation of the older wine consumers into retirement, against the backdrop of a very different younger consumer. The result of the tumult is an industry that is likely to see a drop in volume sold for the first time since 1994. The industry context for selling wine is changing, at the same time the average consumer is changing. Hitting the consumer mark today is like throwing a dart at a target placed on a carousel.

    About the Speakers

Rob McMillan is one of the top wine-business analysts in the United States and the author of Silicon Valley Bank’s highly regarded annual State of the Wine Industry Report, described by the New York Times as “… probably the most influential analysis of its kind.” With decades of experience researching the industry and working with winery clients, his views are sought after and trusted by winery owners, journalists, entrepreneurs, and investors. He is a prominent speaker, both domestically and internationally, and you will find him extensively quoted in national, regional, and trade press. He has also been named several times as one of the Top 50 Most Influential People in the US Wine Business.

Ep. 1238 Michele Longari interviews Marta Locatelli | Clubhouse Ambassador's Corner Jan 19, 2023
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 1238 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors Corner – In this episode Michele Longari interviews Marta Locatelli.

These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! Listen in on this series as Italian Wine Ambassadors all over the world chat with Stevie and their chosen wine producer. Which producer would you interview if you had your pick?

    More about today’s Co-Moderator:

Michele Longari: “Until 10 years ago I was working as a Computer Engineer in Emilia Romagna, Italy. Although my daily job was in a different industry, I already had a deep and rooted passion for good wine and food. In fact, I was spending most of my spare time and holidays traveling around the regions of Italy to learn more about the local cuisine and traditional wines. Since I was becoming more and more passionate about wine, I decided to start the Professional Sommelier Diploma course with the Italian Sommelier Association, with the main idea of learning something more about wine and, at that time, I was not even planning to take the final exams. Then, the more I was involved with wine and the less I wanted to be involved with computers and coding (who can blame me?!), and so I eventually ended up taking the AIS Sommelier Diploma in 2013 then, the very same year, I moved to the UK and started an MSc programme in Wine Business Management at the Royal Agricultural University. While I was finishing my Master Dissertation, I accepted a job offer from HAY WINES, a small independent British wine merchants & importers, and now after 8 years I am still working for the same company. My official role is Purchasing Director, and my main responsibilities are purchasing strategy and imports management.”
