    IT in the D

IT in the D is your insider look at the tech scene in Detroit. Started in 2007 as a meetup group in Metro Detroit for IT professionals, the IT in the D podcast was born in 2013 as an extension of those conversations. Host Bob Waltenspiel and co-host and producer Randy Walker are IT industry veterans, but IT in the D is intentionally more conversational and less instructional. Each weekly show has guests ranging from CIOs and local rock stars, to subject matter experts, local event organizers, and everyone in between. We hope you enjoy listening to us as much as we enjoy recording the show.

Episode 345 – Fred Brown, COVID-19 Coronavirus Data, Science, Projections May 02, 2020
    Show notes

Every now and then, we get a little serious... and this is one of those times. This episode isn't really served justice by just listening to it, given the number of graphs, charts, and tables involved during the conversation. We encourage you to hit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD/ and catch the video at https://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD/videos/168007971161634/ in order to really get the most out of this episode. We're joined by Fred Brown, an infectious disease expert with incredible credentials. We were lucky enough that he gave us well over an hour and a half chatting about the COVID-19 outbreak... where we are, where here really is, and what you can reasonably expect moving forward... And we are good to go. What is up quarantine land? This is the one and only it and the D show where all the way to episode three 45 we got a phenomenal, we were very lucky to have a phenomenal guest this week. Mr Fred Brown, he's an infectious disease expert. I feel like this is every now and then we get a little serious and I feel like just just, just to keep us on our toes. We have to get a little serious now and again. Oh, and by the way, happy birthday Dave. Thank you. I appreciate it man. Um, but yeah, uh, you made fire when ready and we're looking forward to this week show. Hey, what's going on? How's everybody doing? I think our guests are still asleep with our, this is the one and only it in the D show. We made it all the way to episode three 45 do the math, Dave. So that's Bob's wrong plus 329 to close it. And the D that come to his favor, give us a, like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Buying podcasts are sold yet again, this is usually the point where we tell people about our upcoming events and we don't have any, uh, and, and the reason we don't have any upcoming events is why we have our guest on the show tonight. Uh, so yeah. Uh, I guess without further ado, let's go ahead and dive in and, and talk about God. Uh, I guess the only topic that's dominating conversation these days. Oh, you got yourself muted. Yeah. Oh, you got yourself muted, Fred red, you're on mute. There we go. There you go. I apologize. I'm off and running. Well, thanks for having me, Dave. I appreciate it. Of course. No, I appreciate you taking the time to come in. Absolutely. It's a pleasure. Well, you know, I, and I want to get the word out about, you know, what to expect a little bit with this. I, I've been in this game since 1984 we, uh, I actually helped develop the first, uh, AIDS back, uh, the first AIDS test, uh, with a company called Centocor. And we were lucky enough to find the good development first definitive test for AIDS. And from there, that was a 1986. And then from there I helped develop six or seven more vaccines effective for your guests. They have children, they, most of them have been vaccinated by, by my vaccines in the 1990s that we developed. Uh, and I've been involved with probably seven or eight pandemics. We have, we have an epidemic vote every two years. People don't really realize it because they're able to call them now, but you know, they're reasonably frequent. And so if you think about Ebola coming around twice, and we had Zika virus scare, which I was involved with malaria I've been involved with and failed it three times now. So it's, it's a, it's an interesting game. And, um, you know, what, welcome to my world. I'm looking forward to talking a little bit about it. I want to talk about, go a little bit maybe in the background, like I gave a talk to, uh, the Harvard fellows were interested in, in what was happening and so they asked me to give a presentation and I got a little bit of that here just so people have a little bit of background before we talk about what's going on in Michigan. Okay. So right now I guess I'm, you know, my full set of credentials is that I've been in drug discovery, drug development and vaccine development for, uh, 35 years now. I've developed, uh, 27 major drugs, uh, six vaccines, uh, 13 major diagnostic products. I was head of Roche's portfolio management, a team that was, I was global head of that for several years. And you'll hear a little bit about my experience managing the H five N one epidemic that went into Europe and we just were able to contain that. There'll be, and I've created a tool that I think it'd be helpful for the audience to eventually they can look at and see what we're doing. So what you're saying is that you're not some guy in a mask that I found at Meyer to just, you know, hop on the show. I'm working with Johns Hopkins, so if you guys are looking at that, sadly I helped them. I helped do this. They should put up this, you know this, this clock just so we can watch the virus come up and then come down again at, that'd be fun. All the time you say no, you're one rung below a politician on their knowledge base on infectious disease. That's what he's, he's, he's, he's, he's somewhere underneath a Facebook certified epidemiology expert and a and somewhere above. Fred, let me keep it up. Let me give you some, I just got a quick question. You know, I've lived, you know, we joke around like I call our 2009 vacation to Mexico, the swine flu tour because the swine flu broke and then we didn't know we should be flying home every two years. Something's going on. Bird flu, SARS, you know, you kind of listed off a few of them. Also be bold on all that. Like why, what's different now? Like, why, why this one? Because like again, I don't mind doing all this stuff. The, the government, everybody has us doing it wasn't that, but like I walked into this going, Hey, it's nothing. I've been through this crap. And you know, it's not, it's something, yeah. You know, we, we sorta got caught with this one. Vernor's and Robitussin is not curing this. That's, that's what I, yeah. You know, people keep comparing a little bit to the flu and I'll go into live with why that isn't the case. Um, so with this one, you know, it's funny, we do, we do, uh, we actually do prep work. So when you're up in Asia, we do a lot of prep work and in fact it's called prepare. And every two years we go through a couple of scenarios. And what was interesting was the U S was part of that in the early two thousands we went through the prep work and we had actually, we did so badly that we decided that we, that we should develop a plan for it. And in 2008, nine we put together a plan, part of bushes administration then moved into a balanced nutrition. We thought it was a pretty good plan, but we then it was sort of, well you know, it's not that important but we'll, we'll, we'll wait on it. But what we found out was there a couple of scenarios where we do really, really badly and this particular virus is one of those scenarios. It's human to human transmission. That's the first problem. So let's, you know, we've got a lot of population. People are close together. They traveled together for a global day. So anything that any small population can move in doing an open travel to a and really cause pandemics, that's the first problem. The second problem is mode of transmission. This thing is really infectious. And so as you can start to infect people from, you know, just breathing and coughing, uh, and, and the, and the molecules on the aerosol stay on the air for enough time, up to, up to up to three hours. Actually. Unfortunately that that really is a bad scenario because, you know, if you think about the AIDS virus, it's sexually transmitted. You think about Zika was uh, had a vector of the mosquito and we weren't able to stop it but vector. But here it's just out there. And so it's a, and unfortunately, you know, it's got a, it's got a high kill. It's got a reasonably high kill rate, sort of moderate for fires. It was a hierarchal rate. Equity you would probably die out because it would lose hosts. But this one is just sort of in the, in the perfect area where you kill enough people that are able to survive. Um, and uh, and then we've got the transmission uh, problem. And the transmission problems is a big one cause because we have a lot of asymptomatic carriers in this space. So viruses are getting smarter is what you're saying. Great. That's one. And this guy is hard, great, great vaccines, but we still don't have any back. You know, let's think about the common pole. We've had it for a long time. He was trying to stop it for a long time. And we, it's one of the grownup viruses. We don't, we don't have much against these guys. So we've, we've got a little bit of a wait. So when actually in the end there's, I guess there's a good starting point, cause I've heard people use those terms interchangeably. They say Corona virus, they say covert, they say COBIT 19. They say like, so from, from a science perspective, w w lay that hierarchy out. Absolutely. So this is called the scientific game is SARS co V to a, so it's a Sargent [inaudible], uh, virus. Uh, and we've had, uh, two, uh, epidemics of SARS and virus. One was his first, the first one was SARS. And then we had murders. I was middle East virus, middle East had us set a very high kill rate and luckily died out in middle East. Stars almost got over here, you know, made it all the way through Asia and then all the way to Canada. And then all of a sudden, just sorta, you know, Peter DOE, this one is not petering out. So this is our second Sarz Cove. Uh, and it's Covin 19 because it was founded and 20, 19, uh, we've actually have about seven. It's not, it's not the 19th iteration of it. Like you see all the Facebook memes of that's, yeah, that's, yeah. Oh, so you know, it's a, it's a tough one. And I thought one of the things I could, I should show people is, is, is something about, it's important to understand why we're having so much trouble and what, what, what's, what's funny about, about trying to manage, uh,...

Episode 343 – Mike Zapcic and Ming Chen, Podcasting During Quarantine, Comic Cons Apr 15, 2020
    Show notes

Tonight we're joined by our friends from New Jersey - Mike Zapcic and Ming Chen from ASharedUniverse podcast studios, as well as AMC's Comic Book Men, comic cons around the nation, and all sorts of other places. It's always a great time when we get to hang and chat with them, so listen in as we talk about the shared pain of shutting down our podcast studios during this pandemic, movies, tv shows, our opinions about the future of comic cons, when things might start getting back to "normal", and much, much more... Hey, this is episode 343 of the one and all the IT in the D show. We actually have guests this week. The one and only both dogs. There's two of you can't be the one and only Ming Chen and Mike Zapcic, you might know them from AMCs comic book men. You might know them now from the proprietors of a share universe podcast studio. Is that who you are? We'll figure that one out or the Ming and Mike podcast. But yeah, this is going to no topics. Is it just catching up with their boys and uh, just talking about, uh, being quarantine. Dave, you may fire one live from our houses with more budget than Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon combined show. We're broadcasting right here from our houses. Episode 343 Bob, the sales guy gave the gig. Randy, I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters and he's with us. Find a saddle, line it in the [inaudible] dot com and give us a do a favor and give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold. Yeah. And this is where a, I usually dive in and start talking about our upcoming events and all that stuff we got going on. And uh, yeah, there ain't none. There's not a damn one. We are a, we are insanely lucky once again to be joined by two very good friends of ours. Uh, Ming Chen, Mike Zapcic, uh, AMCs comic book men. Did you send them the 40 bucks or was I supposed to cause I a I forgot. We need to get that check right. I got their Venmo. Randy quit eating. Okay. Thank you. That came up on my recommended I, I'm a YouTube junkie and I did go through my recommended videos and actually that your little commercial came up was one of my recommended. I was like, Oh crap, Dave's got to send them a check. Fortunately, gentlemen, we are considered a nonessential business. Ah, and we gotta keep the lights on somehow. And here's the thing. I mean, I get it, dude. That's the, that's the agony that we went through. I mean, it was a vetted a month ago, uh, today actually. Uh, we, you know, I think I was online chatting with Bob and Jamie and Matt, the guys that do our Northville studios, cause technically speaking, there is an exemption in our stay at home order for media companies and media production companies. And it was so, and it was like one of those things where, okay, just because we can doesn't really necessarily mean we should. Cause I mean, God forbid something happens and somebody catches it yet. No, we're done. Yeah, that's what we said. Uh, I went there, Ming, what was it? Uh, actually a month ago this, this coming Friday and Ming's taken copper wiring out of the wall. This kind of a bitch bear. Well that's, that's the Detroit, that's the Detroit boy in him. He's a, he's finding an abandoned structure. And I'm like, what are you doing? He's like, we're podcasting from home. He's like, I'm going to figure out how we're going to do this. We're going to freaking do, ah, bring your laptop. I'm like, I'm not leaving it here. Oh yeah. So, uh, yeah, we just now we've been doing this for a month and you know it's not the same. No, no. We talked about this last week. Have you guys been watching late night? They're like the Conans and Stalins and Kimmel's like it's this, this zero like we have microphones so like our budget's higher. Like they're literally just going with an iPhone. Right. And doing like, like a produced TV show at midnight. Like channels that it's like the little Rascals but on network TV pretty much we'll do it. Like I said, I mean the other day watching, you know, seeing a news program on TV, basically playing the live stream off of somebody's Facebook page as part of the news content is, it just blew my mind the first time I saw it. I'm like, well yeah, I guess you wouldn't want to have camera crews and reporters and all that kind of stuff. They're there. Okay, this is what it is. Now they could have shipped them out at like a like a nice camera and some shit and told them where to plug one in. You know, and we're going to stream here and see where to plug it in. Randy's Randy's been quarantined a couple of little bit longer than he, I don't know if you saw even the little cheap logic webcams, they're gone back ordered cause everyone's snapped him up to do zoom in shifts. So, yeah. Yeah, I was laughing. I see a lot of celebrities are trying to live stream now and it's frustrating as we're watching them. We're like, dude, just call us. Just call us, we'll help you out. So we saw Chris Jericho, the wrestler, he did a licensee with Kevin and he was literally holding a laptop with Kevin's face on it, like streaming dude. Wow. Chris, you have my number. Just call him. We'll tell you how to connect you in livestream. Like, and you know, you guys have good Mike's already. But you know, we were, we were just sitting back laughing a little bit, but I mean, I, I love that everyone's trying, you know, they're there, they're there, they're moving. Uh, they're, they're, they're, they keep going. I love that little awkward though because like did you see Adam Sandler on Fallon? He's singing the quarantine song. Just because you can doesn't mean you should, but it's Jimmy Fallon, so he'll pretty much do anything. Right, right. Well, no, I mean it is, it's hard. I mean, you know, we've got, you know, we've, we've kept a bunch of our shows, uh, up and running, uh, that we've even got a couple of new ones starting this week, which is really weird. Um, but I mean the best way that I've come to describe it for people is like, so zoom is about as close as you're going to get to being in studio right now. Like you can at least see each other, you can make eye contact, you can get body language and all that kind of stuff. And at a minimum we record audio just like we do as if you were sitting in the studios, just like in the studios. Yep. We got cameras there and we can turn them on and we can record. We can do video too. And Hey, if you want, we can stream it out. And all that stuff too. But I mean, so to me zoom is, like I said, I've been about as close as you're going to get to being in studio at this point. Yeah. You just can't smell each other. That's the only sense. Hey, you can't switch. I mean, I'm okay with, I mean if you've ever been in a room with Bob for an extended period of time, especially on draft beer and Coney night. So what do you, what do you guys been keeping busy? What do you guys watch? I gotta I got to tell a funny story real quick and we'll uh, we'll dive into the other stuff. We uh, we've been doing eighties movie nights for the kids. Nice. Vernors um, we've been, I've been trying to get my kids raised on eighties properly cause they haven't seen a lot of the John Hughes movies. So, uh, Saturday night was airplane. I'm like, okay, you're sitting down and you're watching airplane. And uh, as soon as they go to the, my gumbo bar, see my 15 year old just looks at me and goes, really dad, this is from your podcast. This is where you've got it from. Like, yes, this is, it's worse than Detroit. This is where I got it from. Hey, pay homage to the greatest movie ever, ever stolen. Um, for $600. Yeah. Right, right, right. I always say the fairly brothers, the sucker brothers to say, watch, I like had to watch the, um, the zero or thing afterwards. Just show him that it was stolen. Cause for somehow they didn't believe me. I'm like, this is like line for line to see movies, his 50s movies. I mean they're, they added the one liners and they're teenagers and your other dad, of course they didn't believe you. That's how that works when you try to see, I think that's a thing of comedy too, is when you keep telling people that it's funny. It's funny. It's funny. It's funny. Trust me. Like they just, they're going to purposely, yeah, yeah, yeah. Law of diminishing returns. Of course. Yeah. Yeah. And that's where all our wa, that's where all our good material comes from is old movies that our kids haven't seen yet. So they think we are, thank God God for Amazon women on the moon. Oh nice. I watched weird science with my wife and like I swear to God six times during the movie, she's like, is that where you got that stupid line? Like rolling her eyes? Like you walk into a bar and you really have to go bar bar. Yeah. That's why that is. Yeah. So yeah, I mean I guess, I guess that's, that's the question. But like I said, I mean, you know, from a podcast Detroit perspective, you know, we've kept, you know, a good percentage of our shows up and running and enrolling this way. Some people still wanted to take a break and cool. That's fine. Um, but like I said, you know, we've got other new shows starting, like, how's, how's everything going with you guys? Uh, so far so good. And, uh, I've been hustling man because, uh, so you know, our audience, our, our podcast is, uh, know divided into thirds. There was one third, where was I going? I can't come in. How do we do this online? Like they, they really want to keep going. The other third you kind of had to talk them into, that's the nice thing about being at home. You can light up because I have like, I actually had literally have like three will you remember that? Like sharper image, the smoke eaters that they used to sell the big tall coat. Yeah, I've got three of those right here. Just to be safe. I love it. The other third, you know, we had to convince them, uh, we had to show her what I would tell her. Is it going to be the same? Uh, you know,...

Episode 342 – Essential Industries, Bars and Restaurants, Making Drinks at Home and More Apr 08, 2020
    Show notes

Week two of the stay-at-home version of our podcast, and we're diving in on what is and isn't an essential industry, pondering if the bar and restaurant industries will ever recover, and of course the news, events, and information that caught our eyes over the past week... Speaker 1: Hey, this is episode 342 of the one and only IT in the D show. We are broadcasting live from our respective rooms. Apparently we have a Corrine pod and we need to come up. We need to come up with a good name. The pod and teen or the the the corner both terrible. Oh, I know is we have a, we have a higher budget that Jimmy Kimmel and we're going to be, we've got like 25 stories this week. It should be a, again, we're all, we're all in quarantine and we're all going a little bit stir-crazy. Randy's in the white claws and it should be a fun one. Dave, you may fire what's happening and this is it in the D show, episode 342 we are broadcasting live in our living rooms and our basements and our places. Uh, this is Bob, the sales guy. That is Dave the geek. Speaker 1: Randy at do the Twitters is figuring out which camera angle is suitable for him and the D. dot. Com and goose favor. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine cloud guests are sold yet. Hey, this is usually a where I tell you what are all of our upcoming events and that kind of stuff. And there ain't none where we're all, we're, Oh, I'm sorry. Ready? Were you waving or what do you want? I'm just trying to fix a light. Oh, I didn't know you were trying to get the mother of God my profile. Yeah. No, no events. We're not doing anything. It's not happening. I looked around, there was some people doing virtual networking and it's, it's a, it's a shit show. They're terrible. They're terrible. Like it's one thing. Yeah. I don't mind. Like, you know, we have a, I have a standing call every morning. Speaker 1: I work with like 28 people. Right. And it's the Brady bunch thing, but it's like there's one person talking, you read the speak, you go like this, and then you go, Oh. Then everyone stops. You know what I mean? Yeah. It works. But like for networking it's like, Oh, here's Bob. Hi, my name is [inaudible]. Hi everyone. Well, yeah, it's hard to have, you know, and yeah, you can't have like 37 random conversations going on in a room cause you no, that's what I, that's why I kind of made, made the thing going, Hey, if you haven't met someone, don't sell them something. Just you know, invite them to do something like this. Like there's nothing, you know what the hell else you got to do. Right. Speaker 1: Next thing is, um, you know, my wife went for a walk. We have a bike path that's connected to like a city park and all the playgrounds stuff's roped off. It's not like we're taking our kids though. Right. But just to go for a walk, get some air. I guess the pads were packed like every, like in droves. It was wait and when was this? This was Saturday. Midday. Okay. Cause like I did, I the weirdest thing, like I ran out real quick to grab some smokes today and I'm trying to figure like, I'm trying to figure out like why were there, it seemed like there were a lot more cars on the road than there have been in previous days. And I was like ours and the road that they're driving crazy, like someone, someone called me and they were driving because they had to go get something and they're like, I just got passed by someone going a hundred miles an hour down 12 mile. Like Speaker 3: it did the same thing. Yeah. Cause I did. I went up to the little seven 11, you know, right at that, right at the corner, 15 mile and, and watched somebody, you're probably doing a good 70, 80 miles an hour whipping through food. And I'm like, w like did I miss an announcement? Like are there actual zombies now that we're trying to get away from? Like what, what, what's going on? Speaker 1: There's no one on the road. Well, yeah, Speaker 3: yeah. Don't, don't be that guy that was in that car chase. Uh, although Hey, God bless him for a number one stealing a Kia. Uh, and the number two leading the police on an hour long chase that they couldn't stop before things shattered. Get that tree dude. It basically cut in half. Yeah, it just flew. Speaker 1: That's the, that's the content. There was another one today, like a red car. It's almost like they're going, like the news is like we're sick of talking about Corona. I'm here, here's $1,000, go on a high speed. So we got some pull and some viewers. Yeah. What else could do? Um, so speaking of that, like, so you know, I'm a, I'm a pretty die hard sports guy. I love my baseball and my football in my hall and my soccer and my, all the things and they're talking about doing fabulous sports and I'm, I don't know what to make of it. Speaker 3: So isn't that like non-alcoholic beer and, and no salt, saltines. And Speaker 1: this was WrestleMania weekend. Oh, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. In my, in my house, it's the super bowl. Speaker 3: Huge as is with that chat the entire weekend. I, I thank God I figured out how to mute messages. Speaker 1: No, because it always falls in Mark's birthday. So we always get together, get us a big, big cheese and we all, you know, maybe like two or three people come over right also. And Oh, I've been over for it before. Yeah. But it was, it was, no, hold on. There was one fan. There was actually, it was so it was, so let me paint the picture. If you haven't seen it. It was done in a WW performance center, which is like their school warehouse where they keep like all the sets and all the stuff. It's like some meeting room. So at least it wasn't like in a big empty arena. No, no, no. There was no seating. Um, but there was one, it's called big ass fans. You've seen them right at like industrial, like, um, big, huge, it's a big huge ceiling fan. Speaker 3: Oh, like the uh, like the ones they've got at like a Detroit shipping company. The one like those big ass ones that are, yeah, yeah, yeah. Speaker 1: Right. So there was one of those, so that was the running joke is there was actually one fan in it, Speaker 4: uh, Speaker 1: [inaudible] yourself. I could have been worse. It couldn't have been worse. Like the people come out, nobody's cheering or booing. Like, like the one match was like a 35 minute, like iron man, whatever match. Like, you know, whoever doesn't know pin fall, it's whoever stays down 10 count and they were hurt so bad, they were grunting. Like all you heard was grunt, eh, and the rips. And it's like this is awkward. Here's the kicker. For the first time in history, they put on two cinema cinematic matches. Now what does that mean? So like it went to like a movie set and there was like scary, like the undertaker. Okay, wait past his private like Aja styles, who's like in his prime, um, was setting like a movie set and like he comes rolling up in a motorcycle and there's like flames shooting out at the bar and throws them in the ditch. Speaker 1: Again, wrestling is soap operas for do to, would never admit they watch soap operas. I, yeah, it was, it was amazing and it was bad. You didn't know if you should be entertained or if it was the worst thing you've ever seen in your life. Well, so, and just everything in between. We have intentionally, just for as much as I've been around wrestling, you know, cause of you and been to matches and all that kind of stuff. Like, like I like in my head, I don't even understand how fabulous matches work because I mean like so much of it for the guys is feeding off the energy of the crowd or playing to the crowd or you know, the whole heel face thing and interacting with the crowd and going through every scenario in my head because I'm like, okay, I hate the laugh tracks. Speaker 1: Right. And could I watch like soccer that like the, the, the almost like the best part of the soccer matches when the fans start singing and like jumping and yeah, it just adds like D, D, uh, Detroit city football club, like, uh, UCFC the best part of the game. Like the soccer is good. Yeah. But like the whole fan interaction part is like, makes it a thing. So like that's why, yeah. So like all of a sudden it's like, and the winner of the match and like, you know, they crown, like, they changed every belt. So like you expect like just pumping like, Oh my God, everybody's cheering and you know, and it was crickets and you're like, that was weird. So I guess segwaying to speak of weird, um, and, and mostly empty places. Uh, I guess Walmart and a few other stores have now put caps on. Speaker 1: How many people can be in their store at any given point in time? Target Saturday because I buy groceries and apparently Meyer is closing at 6:00 PM on the weekends now. Uh, target was the only thing open at eight o'clock. So right up front of you, as soon as you walk into the store it says we have unlimited this many people. TP is in stock, hand sanitizer is auto stock. Paper towel is out of stock. Okay. We'll well D and T to your point. Yeah. To your point, Bob, I mean, I'm glad to see him do it because there are so many idiots that are well on board. Go ahead and just browse around the store. Oh no. Keep your ass home. Yeah. Yeah. Or walk around, walk to the park and back from the block. Walk your dog. I'm like, you know, it shouldn't a thing like send one person from your family or you know if you're single, you know what I mean? Speaker 1: I don't understand if you're a single mom with like three kids under eight, I can understand having to bring, because you can't get a shipped order to save your life. Right? Yeah. There are no delivery windows ever. Right. That's like my only thing I would ever be like, okay, like you got a pass from me. But other than that in one person, run in, run out, get in, get out, you know, have a list. There's a great idea....

Episode 341: Week 1 of Quarantine… Tiger King, Binge Watching, Zoom Chaos Apr 01, 2020
    Show notes

Week one of our socially distanced show as we're all hanging out in our respective houses. Listen in as we chat about what we're binge watching and how we're keeping our sanity and more... Speaker 1: Hey, this is episode 341 of the IT in the D show live from our living rooms in our basements and we're in our six feet of isolation, I guess. Whatever you want to call it. Speaker 2: How's just yeah, there's one, there's a good 20 miles between us. Uh, all three of us at this point in time. So I think we're good. Speaker 1: We did it. We did have a phenomenal guests lined up. One of the CSOs from one of the big auto suppliers, but he decided to push and I don't blame him. This is a crazy time. So you know what? For the first time being remote, we're going to do this show. Uh, acappella so, uh, you know what Dave, you may fire when ready. Speaker 2: I don't think that word means what you think it means. Speaker 1: All right. Fire when ready. Why from our virtual places. Dave's in the basement. Randy's in the living room. I'm in the living room. This is the one in the living room. So what different living rooms though, because social distancing as 20 miles, 20 miles. I'd be worried if you two are in the same living room. Let's be clear. Hey, this is episode 341 of the one only IT in the D show broadcasting live via zoom. This is Bob, the sales guy that is gave the geek Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters Speaker 2: and after careful consideration as it turns out, all I want to do is [inaudible] him a zoom and a boom. Boom. Yeah, just really, really Randy and me got our quarantine beards going on. What's going on with you? Dude? I'm getting ready to shave mine off. Like I'm like, I'm right. I got to go T going. I think I'm going to, I might, I just shaved it today. I cleaned it up. Uh, but I'm kinda thinking I want to reset. Like I think I want to go back to looking like a 12 year old. Like, that's a dude. Facial hair is bad. It doesn't do me like it's bad for masks. It's like, what? What are you doing? You're being unsafe. You're being unsafe. Ain't going nowhere. Speaker 1: Hey, find us online it in the [inaudible] dot com. Do us a favor, give us a, like on a social sense, subscribed goes everywhere. Fine. Podcasts are sold. Speaker 2: Yeah, I would, I would love to tell you guys about our upcoming events, but we ain't got none. Jumping in. I can just jump in right over what cheers, everyone, Speaker 1: chairs, chairs, what's going on with meetup. Um, apparently if you've been following us, um, meetup got bought by we work, so we figured, Hey, good tie-in. We have rental space meet, Speaker 2: you know, meet up, does meetings and apparently, uh, they, they go by by, um, well I, I think we've talked about, uh, we work on the show enough for everybody to understand how bad of an idea that was. Yeah. Well, yeah, now meet up is back to being, uh, on its own. So it's probably, I guess nothing's going to change anyway. Well, I mean they will, hopefully they'd go back to listening to like community feedback. Yeah. I mean they're not technically back on their own. They were bought by a venture capital firm or private equity firm. Uh, so I mean, we'll see how it goes. I mean the, the, the text of the blog post that went out, uh, made it sound like they're going to try to get a little bit more attentive, uh, a little bit more careful about what they're doing, which is good. Uh, and we'll see how that goes. Well, the firm was established just buy meetup, so, Speaker 3: Oh, I missed that part. Positive. Speaker 2: So is it the dude from we work that just established a firm Speaker 3: or when is golden umbrella? Yeah, so, uh, dude, I'm, I'm not, I'm, I'm not going to let the show go a minute further before we start talking about tiger gang. I'm not Speaker 2: mother of God. No. I'm going to get, no, I'm going to get a little deeper and get James or Jones, mother of God. Speaker 3: Like how does that get drop though? Like right when everyone's home to watch it? Like the timing. Netflix is Speaker 2: brilliant. They are the geniuses. Like right when everybody was just getting close to snapping point and like there were no distractions. There were no, like everybody was losing their minds. And all of a sudden there's just this glorious gay man with a bunch of tigers. I'm at fusion with a chick that, let's be honest, murder husband and femme to a tiger. Um, Speaker 3: do you hate that Randy? I shout Randy a meme. It's like whatever happens if [inaudible] if they actually Ferndale Hazel park. Yes. I like the meme going around. Tiger King has everything. Tigers, lions murder getting redneck trouble. A one armed lesbian alligator arson, mullet pizza made from expired Walmart meat, zoo based sex called a crazy cat lady and country songs about tigers and gala. Dude. Apparently. Apparently if you own a tiger you have to be into polygamy. Like is that how that works? I like the Coke thing that went way over my head. So I'm like what the hell dude, that guy had that guy in Carolina. He's interesting. He's a doctor, but he's a doctor of mystical sciences woman. Dug up a picture of like Brittany Spears concert with him and when he had like dark hair like 1215 years ago or whatever, you know, the best can. We never know Speaker 2: when the studios again, cause here's the best part about this entire setup is I have all my smoke eaters around me Speaker 3: and I can do this while we're broadcasting. Technically we kind of cut in the studio. It's just you don't, I know. I know. I would never do that in the studio. See, here's the, here's the, here's the best part about tiger King. It's gotten to the point where I've dissected it so far down. I'm not just taking the surface story sets. Easy part. It's dead. I don't even know. That guy's named the fat blonde guy. Huh? The Chuckie doll. Yes. I started doing the Kenny powers bit on the jet ski and I'm dude, the eye of the tiger scene. I thought I was going to fall out of the bed laughing when I was watching that I was dying. I'm watching this with ball and he's on a jet ski and I go, what's he doing? He's doing Kenny powers. All of a sudden he's standing up doing the doing the goanna unseasoned one episode. Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'll be just winding down. I'm like, what's he going to drive the three Wheeler next and he's got a skeleton and riding shotgun. And you don't even notice. This is the weird shit. Wait was wait, was that him with the car? With the skeleton. Oh, I thought that was, I thought that was the guy with no legs. No. Oh dude. At this point you could tell me anything and I'd be like, yeah, probably. You know, I thought, I thought that was the guy that had lost his legs below the knees that had the, that had the three Wheeler with the skeleton. And what's the deal? Everyone's got like missing appendages, like no one says nothing. So the one that Speaker 2: girl lost her arm, uh, below the elbow, uh, in an accident at the actual park Speaker 3: accident. My ass, they ran out of Walmart meat. So like he told her to stick her arm in there too. There was actually video footage of it happening. Speaker 2: And then, but the guy that lost his legs like it, it was because of a zip lining accident. And then he refused to properly take care of himself after the fact. And so that's why he lost his legs below the knees. Um, yeah, I mean, it did. It did. There was so much, so many levels of insanity. And then you've got a, this bombshell that drops, uh, I believe it was yesterday where, uh, this blog, uh, the, it's a true crime blog out of Florida that I guess somebody had reached out to years ago, uh, and said, Hey, I have proof that Carol's involved in this, um, hit me up. And so they talked to this person and they never published it cause they couldn't substantiate it, but literally her appearance in the show substantiated this person's claims. Speaker 2: I shared the link earlier, I'll shoot it here. It's like, so apparently certain, you remember the, uh, the handyman guy, uh, that was, you know, Dawn's handyman that was like, yeah. So apparently, uh, he showed up the night that, uh, the nighttime or the night before, he was declared missing the night before Don disappeared. Uh, it's that guy's wife that showed up that that was the, uh, that was the informant that contacted this true crime blog. Um, and she said, Hey, so Don, that's the guy's name showed up at home that night with or at Noah. Don was the husband's name. Uh, the handyman, uh, showed up at his house with Don's van that was eventually found at the airport by the way. Um, full of all of the guns that donned owned, uh, that Don had owned like 50 or 60 of them. Uh, and apparently they were like, there's all these D transfers that, uh, that Carol had given to this handyman guy. It's all a matter of public record. Uh, and it's, dude, it's looking more and more like, yep. She, they handyman had something to do with it and Carol whacked a guy. Speaker 3: All I know is that there's someone out there sitting home. It's not the only character in the show that [inaudible] guy. Ah, Speaker 2: exactly. Yeah. A bag of math says you're not straight changed my mind. That's apparently that's the entire show. Speaker 3: No, there's people sitting at home right now watching this going, I ain't one of those guys be pizzas with Walmart meat toppings. Like that was a thing. Whereas I'm sitting at home, I'm sitting at home going, really, I could have had a tiger for two grand. That's all that was two of them. I know. Speaker 2: Um, although I'm loving, um, I, I, cause I, you know, me, I'm like, I'm, I'm OCD about everything. I when like, you know, checked out the Facebook pages of everybody, um, and the, uh, the greater Wynnewood, uh, zoo, uh, still has a page,...

Episode 340 – Managed Way, Internet Saturation in the age of COVID19 Mar 28, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to the quarantine, did not shut down, the central studios. Here we are the IT in the D show. This is episode 340 the show must go on guest this week include Reese Sarah, he is the COO of managed way. We're going to be talking about if we're going to be running out of internet cause that's been a hot topic of late and a again, nice timely guest talking about the things that we care about deeply. Why is okay now I can hear me. That was weird. Sorry. I was like, I've got to get some of them internet. God, I get the Internet's Dave may fire and ready. You are listening to the podcast. Detroit visit www.podcastdetroit.com for more information just like ESPN, we ran out of stuff to talk about, so we're going to be talking about stone skipping for two hours. Just Oh, this is actually technology. Actually this is a topical these days. This is the one only IT in the D show. Episode three 40 podcasts and live here in studio one in the essential podcast. He trades studios here in Royal Oak, Michigan. Bob and we'll talk about that in a minute. This is Bob, the sales guy. That's Dave the geek. Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters because Twitter's is still a working. Find us online IT in the D.com until it doesn't work. And I remember to give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold a year. We got nothing. Uh, we event wise. Yeah, no. So our event last week, uh, unfortunately canceled, uh, because of everything going on. I talked about doing a virtual thing and it did. The more we talked about it, the less sense it made people in a Google hangout going, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey it, no. Um, unfortunately our Ann Arbor event, uh, has now fallen victim, uh, for the first Tuesday of April, uh, with the extension of the closure, uh, out to at least the 13th at the or through the 13th at this point to the 14th. Uh, and, and who knows? Cause now we ha we, we just got, we all just got the same emergency alert to our phone. Dude, that was the first, so I'm listening. I listened to 97 one typically when I'm at what I'm in the car and I'm just, I'm just done blog. Okay. And I heard that was the first time in my life I've heard, and I'm trying to go back my entire life to one I've always heard the test is a test of the emergency broadcast system. I got it through to my phone. I know I did both. Oh I gotta tell my phone also, but it was, it was live over the radio. I'd call it, cut him off cause he's like, Oh my God, that was so loud. And he re-read what he was talking about and that was the first time I've heard it. And it was [inaudible] governor Whitner, you know, you have a 12 o'clock, uh, a nonessential business. It was basically read what it said on your sent to your phone, but I'm like, Hey, that was it cause we were not in hurricane country. That is, yeah, that would have been the first time that I'd actually heard a cut in like that. Cause it's always like it has been a test of the emergency room. I get like no, this was the actual first time I had that. But like apparently it's like super loud when you're a radio DJ and it plays when it takes over you. Yeah. I'm not surprised I guess. But yeah. So I mean I guess the latest update, uh, is that uh, yeah, not all non-essential, but I guess here's my, yeah, so the whole nonessential business thing. Uh, you're supposed to close as of midnight tonight, but you look at what's qualified as an essential business and it's like, well what I like, who's really got a close that cause, well it's, it goes, it goes down, down, down the line. Like so like United shores essential business finance, it's financial services but also distributors and suppliers and people that mean that sub selves is all your it guys, all your [inaudible] food service Telcom. Cause we were worried cause we're, you know, building out the new building. This is a great time to do side hustles and side projects that were like, is black box, can they still run cat five fours? Is that a social services or a supplier? They're a supplier. Distributor, yeah, I guess so. So like now it's like really awkward. I know how yeah. Like yeah I guess. And then Mark, um, friend of mine works for waste management. He's got to carry around a letter. Um, yeah, it says he's an essential laughably we can write those letters if we need to because apparently we're an essential service cause we're immediately, we had to talk about that today on our, on our call because one guy out of our team of 30 has to be there just in case like you've got to reboot a server, get onsite at the data center. Um, or like do we I those letters, he was like, well I don't think so. But I'm like, well, what they've said is, well granted, I mean, you take what they've said with a grain of salt at this point. Cause I mean as of yesterday, um, she said there wasn't going to be a stay in place order and then as of 11 o'clock this morning, there's a stay in place order. Um, but they've said they're not going to be pulling people over or anything like that. But what they are planning on doing is targeting quote unquote. And this is again why, okay, well who's not supposed to be open. They're gonna be going to those businesses that they see open and be like, all right, what the hell are you doing? Everyone's got an argument though. If you're a dry cleaner going, I'm supplying the bank laundry. Laundry. Laundry is specifically exact laundromat dry cleaner. That's what I mean. If you actually read the verbiage of this who Oh yeah. Who's not exempt oil change place. They've got to do the car for the vice president of the bank. Got it. Keep us. So you know, hardware stores are still open because you've got to keep that house repaired. Dude. If liquor stores and weed dispensaries are on the critical list, I yeah. Well, cause that's sort of like the guy that I was calling in 97 one that now that I'm listening cause the damn beeping in my ear, he's talking about like, it doesn't seem like anything's changed, like just a little bit lighter on the roads and it's a lot lighter on the roads. Yeah. But 70 fives close. Like it all got cropped out to two down to two lanes, which is one thing I was gonna yell about. Like now that there's no traffic, fix the damn roads and you know, I guess you can now. Yeah, if you do some road crews, road crews are essential services. Yeah. I'm going to operate it. You know, I guess we'll talk about TV in a minute, but I just want to hop right into this. The best article I read all week and it's, it's, it, it talked to me. Um, basically how well gen X is handling this more. I love it. Love it, love it. Well, it goes on to basically, you know, then there's another thing going, Hey, by the way, um, millennials, you know, millennials aren't the ones, um, you know, rushing to the stores and like those are G are rushing to parties and like being assholes. Those are, that gen Z are back. We're in our thirties now. Our backs hurt. Right. But like gen X, like we are like, I'm quintessential gen X born right in the middle of it. Yep. 73, um, like the Nirvana thing at high school graduation, you know. Um, but basically talking about how we lived our first, what, 13 years of our lives with no electronics. Yup. So we, like, we, we know how to use elect. We're the only generation that knows how to use electronics addict or technology adequately. And we're the only generation that knows how to live a life without it. Yup. So now at this time it's like this, like no one from my peer group or anyone I know is panicking. They're just watching TV and shit. Yeah. Like, life's good. Right? Well, it's like I said, dude, I'm like, I'm taking advantage. I'm finally getting around to like handling a couple projects like I, so the, my kids are ecstatic cause in the basement I'm, I've got um, an original PlayStation two [inaudible] uh, a Nintendo GameCube and 64 and the original, we, I'm on Atari 2,600 and some other stuff that I'm finally hooking up to one of the big screens down until I got to make this funny about that. Like I did that in like, Oh one in my townhouse. I was, well I just was like, well dude, do you remember my old basement at the old house cables? Well, but so now I figured out, okay, here's all the stuff that I need to do this now cause okay, how do you hook all that stuff to a TV that only has HTMI inputs? No red white, no, only HDI inputs. That's what I thought. I excited red, white and I just basically had it. Oh yeah, no. So, so here's a great story. So like I had Sunday, I just, I had to get out of the house and I went to, I was going to go to best buy and pick up all the stuff that I needed and my daughter, you know, wanted to get out. And, and so she came with me. So number one, if you ever decide that you want to have a little bit of fun, assuming they stay open, uh, best buy has like big giant signs on the doors, uh, that says, you know, social distancing, six feet strictly enforced. Um, just like walk in and then like flinch towards one of the employees, like you're gonna get close to them and like watch them jump back into hilarious. Like they're absolutely paranoid about it. Um, so we go walking in and the guy's like, Hey, you know, can I help you find anything? I said, yeah, don't worry about it. I said, I'm, I'm just looking for some video upscale units. Uh, I gotta hook up some old components to a newer TV. And he goes, Oh, we don't carry that kind of stuff in stock here. And I went, yeah you do. So I walked back to home theater. Sure enough, they, I need six of those. Give me, did it. And then I'm in and out. Like walking back out. My daughter, she's 12 and she's, my daughter cannot help herself as we're walking up towards, and we walked past Skippy, Mick flinch a lot. Uh, and she says, um, yeah, my dad found everything he needed like right where he thought I was going to be. ...

Episode 339 – C3 Technology Advisors, Coronavirus in Michigan, Events and Bars Closed Mar 20, 2020
    Show notes

Here we are a few days into the coronavirus chaos in Michigan. Bars and restaurants closed, and so we've had to cancel our monthly networking event for the first time in 13 years... but our guest couldn't have possibly be more timely as we dive in to discuss remote working, doing things effectively while remote, how to keep yourself on track and rolling... C3 is at: https://c3techadvisors.com/ Live from the quarantine studios here at podcast Detroit. This is the it and the D show. We made it all the way to episode three 39 guests this week include Jason and Taylor. They are from C3. We're going to be talking about worker mobility and remote office technology solutions. And the best part is that we didn't even plan. It wasn't planned like this. No, like that's one of the C3 that's one of their core focuses and uh, I thought what a great time to, I'll talk about it. So we're gonna uh, you hear that sound that those are the VPN engines humming across the U S a as long as they're not running through the West coast Azure platform. Right. I love how they call it a Brown out. We'll be talking about that in a lot more. Dave, you may fire when ready. Welcome back. Thanks for hanging out with us. Hopefully you're somewhere safe in your homes. Barricaded in bubble wrap. How else can you be right now? Good point here you are listening one and only it in the D show. We are broadcasting live here in studio one in podcast, Detroit in-person in beautiful Royal Oak, Michigan. This is Bob the sales guy. That is Dave the geek. Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters, find us online it in the d.com. And I was a smoker's cough, not a rotavirus cough fight. Fight a sunlight ideality.com and it give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are so that's the only place you're gonna be able to find this cause ain't no meetups happening anytime soon. Folks. Uh, thanks to uh, I, the situation as it is, I blame the virus. Blame governor Whitmer blame whoever we want to blame. All bars and restaurants are shut down for anything but takeout and carry out, uh, for at least two weeks until at least at three April 5th. Oh yeah, we are. Uh, and so, yeah, no, we're not doing our meetup, uh, this week at the cozy lounge. It has been canceled. We are sorry. Um, it is not our fault. We are victims. This is literally the first time in 13 years, uh, that we will not have an event, uh, in Metro Detroit for the month or in Harbor for that matter. Well, they had the one a couple of weeks ago. They had one. Yeah. And then theoretically if it ends when it's supposed to, they'll still have their next one. So it got kicked around today on LinkedIn, um, about us having a virtual event and while I go, Ooh, good idea. Google Hangouts and I talked to cause some guys at work and they're like, and that's not a bad idea then I thought a logistics, it's a horrible idea of having 50 people in a Google hangout going, hi, my name is Belle and I worked for this company and we sell stuff and we're awesome. Hi bell. It's like a, you know, like an AA meeting, but it's high bill. Um, so we're, we're, we're not going to do a virtual meetup. I, here's the thing, if you, you know that we've got 8,000 members in our LinkedIn site and we got like 2,800 on our meetup site. And then we've got our website. If you need to post your resume, post your resume posted job posted, job posted intro. If you guys want to have private Google Hangouts or like, Hey, you know, Philip A. Day of, of meeting new people, um, we're going to leave that up to you. It's kind of like how we've done our networking events. Right. We'll, we'll, we'll provide the venue and we'll leave it up to you to, to, to do what you wish. Like I'm not going to lie, I have always adding a message board, a component onto our site just cause I don't want to monitor it and I don't want to deal with it. And we do deal with enough deleting things on LinkedIn when people posting webinars and sales staff. But yeah, so we are a, we are in the throws of a Mike Corona [inaudible] but Hey, I'm speaking of networking events by the way. Um, we have been using Vista print since pretty much we've started I think, Oh seven or whenever, whenever we could buy it for its first couple of rounds of cards. Absolutely. We, um, you know, it was always, uh, we always, it was, it was the easy button for us building business cards. It was basically, um, pick your colors, fonts, designs. They had pre done designs. We did our own, we could put our logo on the back. We just decided to do two logo ones where I put it in the den, podcast, Detroit, we used to have two cards. Um, but Vista print has been kind of running this and we always told people that were coming to our events. Hey, just put your name and your title and your email and your phone number. You know, it's easy. Yeah. Um, but Hey, you know, like I said, you can use their designs, you can do your own design. You pick the paper stock, the style, quantity, it's right for you. Um, you can even upgrade, you can do stuff like rounded corners. You can be unique. Um, and now you can get your cards for free with economy shipping. Um, they actually use, uh, carefully selected inks and responsibly source paper socks too. And it's honored percent guaranteed. If you get it and it's not good, you get your money back or you can over, they'll make it right. Do us a favor. They want you to be able to own the now in any situation, which is why our listeners are it and the ETI team, the D listers will get free shipping on all business cards, any style, any quantity. Just go to Vista, print.com and enter promo code it in the D for free shipping on all business cards, any style, any quantity. Is this for a limited times the OMA now@vistaprint.com promo code it in the Dean, right Randy? I still owe your cards and saw the ones that Dave made, but they're the wrong ones. He didn't put his number. Yeah, no, no. John just took the ball and ran with it and didn't ask if it was supposed to be PD or it in the D and E J D he did it wrong. It's all good. We'll make her, they're still cute. I forget. Love them cause it's at least Randy's title is putting the gay and engagement. That's all I wanted. I would refute it as cute. I was like, I was like, Oh shit is Randy saw that? Then Randy left. I go, okay, fine. It's like, Oh my God. He laughed. What I said I was going to have them done that way. I had them done. I was going to say, I'll go talk to him about this. Um, yeah, no. So, uh, yeah, we, we are in the throws of, uh, whether it's, you know, you want to call it coven 19, you want to call it coronavirus. You want to do whatever the hell you want to call it. Um, we are neck freaking deep in it right now. You know, here's the thing, everyone's been talking about this like beating it to death. If I listen to talk radio on the way to work, um, right now, you know, half are more than, I want to talk about this in a minute from a technology standpoint, but a half our company's working from home, but uh, you know, as it turns out, that meeting really could have just been an email. But I always, right now I'm at the point where I'm like, I would hate to see happened if the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor again. Like the stores are destroyed and when I mean destroyed, I mean it's worse than like black Friday and they're giving away dollar TVs. Like everything is gone. People are buying year supply of toilet paper because I didn't know this virus gives you the shits, one person cops and then 30 people shit themselves. Right. But like then I'm like sitting at home now go, I'm going to like questioning our stock like die, have enough poop paper. Like are we going to be okay? You know, do we have ramen noodles? Like you know my kids are home now. So it's like are they going to be able to eat? And it sucks because everybody else's doomsday prepping kind of forces you to because you can't rely on there being toilet paper when you need it. So you've got to go stock up, right? No, I'm not going to, I refuse, I, I'm just, I'm not, I'm not going to be that guy. Like, I'm not cause all you're, all you're doing is you're screwing a other people and B, the stores because now you are throwing their inventory control systems wildly out of whack. And so when this stuff does start to settle down, I mean you're going to see some great deals on toilet paper and hand sanitizer, uh, probably meet, um, you know, when, when this stuff settles down because they're going to be so overstocked, they won't know what the hell to do with it. Cause now they're, well, that's the thing I don't understand. Like I understand if you have a over like how sales and inventory and all that stuff matters. Now you're getting all this like for the next four months, erroneous are getting. Yeah, you're getting it. You're getting outliers. This isn't the sales right now. Yeah. It's kinda like, um, Oh my God, we gotta talk about this too. Um, she's as Christ. I don't Michaels, I don't care what you're doing to combat the coronavirus Chuck E cheese hat. I don't care what you're doing to cry. Say that. I could have, I've gotten a hundred of those. I've gotten way more than that. Vastly underestimating the number that I've gotten. Top ones like I don't care. Harbor freight, I don't care. I don't care. Shit I bought from you tend to it like how does Michael's even have my email address? I use yours when I buy wire frames. That's right. Which is dumb stuff like I don't care. Like I assume you're wiping shit Dallas twice now. The restaurant's saying what they're doing now. I was like, you weren't sanitizing tables before him. I'm convinced it's dude, it's an ad campaign. It's companies that you probably haven't done business with in a long time and they're using these emails as reminder, Hey, we're here. Hey, we're here. Hey, we're here. Did you know what LinkedIn turned into? Oh, I saw a remote workers software. I said,...

That is Dave the geek. Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters, find us online it and the D. dot com and do us a favor. Give us a like on the socials, subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts Speaker 2: or sold. Hey, so what do we have? We got a the Anarbor event coming up on, uh, three, three, uh, I forget. I always forget the odd even thing. I should have that memorized by now and I just don't two years now. Yeah, I am. I, my brain refuses to commit that to memory. Uh, and then we had, uh, well the next one is, uh, the 19th that will be at the cozy lounge. Uh, and they are really kind of dorked about us being there. And not only that, they're named for one of the best burgers in Southeastern Michigan. Yeah. They were like one of the, yeah, the one of the top 10 burgers, right? Like, Oh my God, they're so cool. I agree. And I would like James [inaudible] from Mabel gray who was like, I think he's James Beard. He's one of the top chefs in, yeah. Speaker 2: He like swears by their chicken biscuits. So like that honestly, God for, it's a little dive bar. It's a little townie bar, but they've transformed that they can do like kind of a cool little place, great little place. And we're looking forward to it. And, and you know, and then the last week we had our event at Woodbridge pub. Um, really? Well, that was the first time I remember being there. I haven't been there before, but I haven't been since my Wayne state days. Oh yeah. And, and like that place like just brought back tons of, yeah. It was phenomenal. Like love that place, love to go back. Everybody was like, it couldn't have been happier and it was yet another one. That's like, a lot of the people that showed up were like, Oh my God, heard about this place. Never been here. Really digging it. Speaker 2: And they have decent sipping room and you know, and they have food as long as you don't want the chicken wings. No chicken wings. Yeah. Chicken wings are gone. I was in the mode, but then I had, I ordered that chicken one tons. That sounds weird. All over to that. And it's chicken egg rolls. It's like you take the bottom of chicken soup and you slab in an egg roll and it was actually pretty good anyway. Yeah. Looking forward to it. Looking forward to cozy. It should be good. Um, and then, Hey, uh, just on a personal note, I would be remiss if I didn't mention, um, Hey, rest in peace. Kelly Tucker, uh, great guy. Uh, local, uh, I mean he, he did, uh, stuff with us back in the raw radio X days. Uh, he was a sound guy over at the Ritz downtown at st Andrews. Speaker 2: He did stuff out at diesel. Uh, Kate, one of our engineers actually went to graduated specs wait time. A lot of people touch a lot of lives. They, I was, uh, if you read his wall today, man, touching a lot of lives. Yeah. Great. Great guy. Gone too. Damn soon. Uh, so rest easy bro. So Honda, funny, yucky cheats. Nah, no show. Must go on, right. He would say the same thing. Don't cut the damn Mike. But one of the, uh, the funny race and I don't, one of the funniest tweets I've seen all week. Uh, basically I didn't even know that this was possible or this was a thing. Um, but basically it's an app powered car and this couple when basically in rural California on the mountain, like basically for a drive on the weekend. Yeah. And they lost cell signal cell coverage and their car Brecht. Speaker 2: And it got stuck literally in the middle of the shit's villain nowhere. That was the best day Heather. So car will not go. And I, I guess this is where we live now. Right? But here's the stupidest part. I'm like, wait a minute, you're tweeting. So the cell phone works. So the first tweet they answer their own like stupid question. They're like, it appears though I do not have enough cell service to start. My only means of transportation. I do have enough to live tweet my struggle. So thanks for tuning in. I'll be here. And definitely like again, I was stupid. Like you can send out tweets but you know, what does the car need? Like just bandwidth requirements. Got it. Who died? Yeah. That's one of the dumbest things I did. Like I, I was going back to like, the one thing I could think of was like the old stories about like you don't know far superstar, uh, that had like the GPS tracking devices and cutouts cars, the low jacks and all that stuff on financed vehicles. Speaker 2: Yeah. So just, yeah, just the bizarre I, yeah, I, it's just one of those weird things that like you don't really think through well they would think there's not full coverage everywhere. You, you know, I don't know. It did remind me though. I watched the worst photo. That seems like a pretty common shortsighted oversight of it. It, there isn't, there isn't a cell, there isn't a cell company that says a hundred percent coverage. Like they all say 99.9% or whatever. They, you know, there's always some weird pocket and weirdo they prominent use sprint or something. It's Bryant. Yeah, it does remind me of the worst. I think one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life this weekend and that saved something and I should've known, I should've known better. It was called cell. And you know, I think I've seen like the trailer for this, but I haven't actually watched it. Speaker 2: I love me some John Q SAC, he's one of my top of all time, who's coming to town in April. He is for the free. I tweeted them to see if he'd come on the show. That's not going to happen. But whatever wishful thinking. We've got Anthony Michael Hall, my Mizel, you know, I'll shoot for the moon at this point. I'm Samuel L. Jackson was in it and uh, it was kind of like the all 11% on rotten tomatoes. I know. I go, there's no way it can be that cause it, was he tired of the cell phones on his head? No, no. I didn't get that bad. But like it was a, and then it was like 18% audience score. I go, there's no way it could be that bad. And it starts off like put, wait. Oh, but wait. Yeah. So he starts out like John Q six in the airport and all of a sudden, like, everyone that's on their cell phone is like, uh, killing people. Speaker 2: Like right. Like, it's almost like Dawn of the dead wood Ving right. We're in the beginning. It's like that cool scene where like the outbreak starts and like the town's on fire and all this, so they go out in a remote remote, whatever. And if you were like open up a cell phone like so like cell phones became that VHS tape in the rain. Then the people open up their models and like get cell signal like [inaudible] and like then they like, yeah it ended there. Basically a guy handsome, they find this diner and the guy hands him like a flip phone. He says, dial this number when you need to save. And like at the end of the movies, like he calls the number and then he's like in this ring of people around the cell tower and now they're all going to [inaudible] and that was it, dude. Speaker 2: I swear to God I could go. That couldn't have been it. And the credits are rolling. I'm like, I sat through this whole, I don't know, this sounds like a good cheesy movie date night. It's not the watch one of those. Like what have you heard the MST three K? No, I was gonna say my standard. No, because it wasn't, it wasn't like the Perato movies and all those stupid we, me and my wife watched some dumb one where like there was a beast in the sand and have you touched the sand? I was like, well floors, lava and you eat and, and at the end it came out of the sand. Was it the Sarlacc? I guess I'm going to stick with my standard cheesy date movie. Then a good snow. What's that? Oh, you haven't seen dead snow. Is it worse than Jack Frost? It's a, not that Michael Keaton one the horrible where the snowman kills people, but nobody thinks to light a fricking match Nazi zombies up in Norway. Speaker 2: Come on. It's amazing. Nazi zombies. No, I did see the one that was the has a sequel red dead two red versus dead, which is Russian zombies versus Nazi zombies. What was the one Nazi Nazi midgets and later hosing or something. And there was like a movie that was like, I'd show it to him. I had to click on and I lasted about eight minutes. This is the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. That's outstanding. I'm kind of a weird week for hackers. Yes. Week. So, and I did, I found this interesting. Um, so the same hacker ran two exploits, um, against [inaudible] and managed to walk away. Well, what's, for those that don't know what's, what's DFI? It's a decentralized finance. So it's, you know, like, uh, all the cryptocurrency stuff that you got it. Got it. Got it. Um, and it's one of the, one of the, you know, the trading houses and walked away with over $1 million in Ethereum over the course of two transactions. Speaker 2: But see, now explain to me this dumb dumb guy in me says, don't you, where do you cash that out if you stole it because it's tagged, it's marked,...
