What I'm Working On #20 - Communication: Vital Developer Skill May 19, 2019
    Show notes

"What I'm Working On" is a weekly show where I give a quick recap of what I worked on at my day job as an iOS developer at a small startup in Silicon Valley. I hope this give some insight into what it's like to work for a small startup as the sole iOS developer.

In this episode I talk about how great communication might just be the most valuable skill a developer can have. I run through 3 different scenarios that happened this week where great communication was essential. I think this episode is extremely valuable to up and coming developers.

If this is your first What I'm Working On episode, be sure to check out the introduction episode for context as to what the Aluna app does.

    Origin Stories #14 - Jane Chung - iOS @ Calm May 15, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode of Origin Stories I speak with Jane Chung, iOS Engineer @ Calm. This was a really fun episode because I've known Jane for a long time now, as she was my partner throughout the iOS Development bootcamp we did back in 2015. It was fun to look back on the app we built together during that bootcamp. Jane then moved on to be one of the fist full-time mobile engineers at Coinbase where she converted the app from Objective-C to Swift and rode the crazy crypto wave of 2017 all the way to Coinbase being the #1 app in the App Store for a period of time. Lots of war stories there... After leaving the crypto space, Jane is getting ready to embark on her next chapter as an iOS Engineer at Calm.

Origin Stories is a series of interviews with iOS developers from the community where we discuss how they got their start in this industry. We discuss how they first became interested in code, what resources they used to learn, how they got their first job and much more.

The First Month - FINALE - Sage advice for Jr. Devs May 08, 2019
    Show notes

Back in January of 2019 I put out a video (link below) asking people who had never had an iOS Developer job to apply for a new position at the startup I'm work at, Aluna. When I started my career someone took a chance on me when I wasn't quite ready, and it launched my career. I wanted to do the same for someone else.

That someone is Chris and we sit down and recap his third week on the job as a Jr. iOS Developer. We talk about his impressions of startup life in San Francisco, what he worked on this week, as well as some thoughts on how having mentorship has drastically increased his skills in just a few short weeks.

    Origin Stories #13 - Jazbo - iOS @ Glowforge May 06, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode of Origin Stories I speak with Jazbo, iOS Engineer at a 3D Laser Printer company called Glowforge. I was thrilled to finally get to sit down with Jazbo and hear his story. It was fascinating to hear how he grew up in Jamaica and never touched a computer until he was a teenager. After college he decided he wanted to learn software engineering and started watching videos online, which led to him joining the developer community on twitter. Through this network, he was able to land his job at Glowforge. Be sure to stick around for the end of the episode where we have a great discussion about how people have different hurdles in their path to becoming a software developer.

Origin Stories is a series of interviews with iOS developers from the community where we discuss how they got their start in this industry. We discuss how they first became interested in code, what resources they used to learn, how they got their first job and much more.

"Full-Time" YouTube Decision - The Deep Dive May 05, 2019

I have made the decision to forgo the opportunities at a large company and go "Full-Time" YouTube and content creation. I released a YouTube video on this, but it was a high level overview of how the decision came to be, and what to expect from my channel. In this episode, we got WAY deeper into my thought process on this big decision.
