The Aspire Event In Atlanta - What It Is And What We Learned Jan 09, 2024
    Show notes

In this episode, we share inspiration and insights from our experience attending the Aspire Summit in Atlanta, a two-day event for entrepreneurs aimed at inspiring growth financially, professionally, and personally. We are always looking for ways to grow, and thought an event NOT focused on interior design, but rather on small business success, would be a breath of fresh air. Key Takeaways: 1. Take time AWAY from your business to work on your business. 2. Nobody cares more about your money than you. It's important to increase your financial IQ. 3. Visualize the next scene in your movie or chapter in your life. Allow yourself to daydream then vocalize that to the universe and ask the universe to send you signs and signals. We have HUGE gratitude to all of you for listening, watching, reviewing, and supporting our podcast this year. On our next podcast, we will have a very exciting announcement about great things to come on Inside Design with Kandrac & Kole in 2024.

In the meantime, thank you Atlanta Market for sponsoring this episode.

We wish you all a joyous and safe holiday with a reminder to count your blessings and pay it forward. The holidays are a hard time for many and to those people, we send big hugs and lots of love.

See you in the New Year!

    KEY TAKEAWAYS:

    1. 2023 was filled with events, trips, unique installs, remodels, and a lot of learning. We cannot wait to see what 2024 will bring!

    2. Design events are some of our favorite ways to learn about up-and-coming design elements and network with fellow designers or business owners. Gatherings such as AmericasMart Atlanta and the High Point Insider's Tour not only offer invaluable networking prospects but also serve as a source of inspiration for fortifying our business.

    3. Being featured in Atlanta Magazine Home and earning design award nominations emphasizes the pivotal role of industry recognition. Being recognized in this way means so much to us.

    4. Try to balance work and travel, even brief breaks rejuvenate, sparking fresh insights and creativity. For example, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures and design hubs like Marrakesh can be transformative.

    5. We thank our audience's unwavering support, recognizing this support is a reminder of the resilience and shared positivity that can fuel continued success.

Your Design Questions Answered Dec 15, 2023
    Show notes

Interior design is fascinating and exciting but can also bring a great deal of challenges that can lead to design paralysis or feeling stuck. We believe that having an open dialogue about our process can help our listeners make the best design decisions for themselves and their homes.

With nearly 6 years of the podcast under our belts, we love it when our listeners ask us questions about this industry, how we as designers manage a busy schedule, what our favorite design elements are, designing on a budget, or how to use art to tie a design together.

During this episode, we respond to questions from our listeners regarding topics from our clothing choices, to interviewing interior designers, plumbing, and more! We are happy to share our knowledge and experience with you today to help you avoid design paralysis.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS:

    1. With clear communication and expectations, a renovation or remodel can help alleviate the angst and stress of the process.

    2. Layering a sisal or jute rug underneath a Turkish or flatweave rug is a great way to add texture and interest.

    3. The best way to take the fear out of selecting a paint cover is to order large samples (they can be ordered through Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore) and put them in several areas of the space. It's best to view them at different times of day and night.

How Interior Design Affects Real Estate with Guest Kathleen DeWitt Charleston Real Estate Agent Nov 17, 2023
    Show notes

We wholeheartedly believe that a well-designed home not only reflects your personal style but also has a significant financial impact on its sale or rental value. That's why we wanted to share an insightful interview with Kathleen DeWitt, a renowned real estate agent from Charleston, who sheds light on the importance of good design in the local real estate market.

In our conversation with Kathleen, she emphasizes how an aesthetically appealing home can truly make a difference when it comes to attracting potential buyers or tenants. She discusses the positive impacts of thoughtful design choices and how they can set your property apart from the competition.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS:

    1. A professionally designed home can help a property be more marketable, sell faster and you get your money two-fold in return.

    2. If something is very well done, a homeowner doesn't need to panic on how it will present itself. You don't have to do "vanilla" and worry that a future homeowner won't like it. Don't be afraid of navy-blue cabinets or wallpaper.

    3. A designer can come into a home that is already furnished and can make edits with a space plan, removing or adding objects and give it a special "flare" that just makes it show better!

How To Style For An Interior Photo Shoot Nov 03, 2023
    Show notes

We recently spent four days styling and shooting a large project on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. It was totally exhausting and exhilarating at the same time – taking a project that took 2 years to complete and styling it up a notch to be photography ready was quite a feat.

As interior designers, we professionally photograph our work not only for our portfolio on our website but first and foremost, we photograph our work with the intent of submitting our project to specific magazine editors for regional or national publication.

In the end, preparing, arranging, and investing in a photo shoot is a true labor of love for our work and our business. When we finished this marathon photo shoot in Kiawah, we decided we need to share all that we've learned over the years about what goes into a photo shoot.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS:

    1. Find the best photographer you can afford to shoot your work. It is an investment in your business. Do your research first to make sure you are the right fit for each other.
    2. For the best result, stylize your interiors and exteriors to be magazine ready. This takes a lot of planning and preparation.
    3. Make the best of your photo shoot – be sure to get a fresh headshot, video and vignettes to share on all different platforms.

We source a lot of Norwalk furniture in our projects for a number of reasons. One being that Norwalk builds heirloom quality furniture rather than landfill quality furniture. You know what that is also called? Sustainable! Doing their part to create healthy homes and environments is a core principle at Norwalk and we want to be a part of that.

Another reason is that, unlike many other manufacturers, Norwalk has a particularly fabulous array of patterns and bright, fun fabrics to partner with performance fabrics, leathers, and textures like boucle and velvet. If you visit Norwalk at the upcoming High Point Furniture Market (which you most certainly should) you will undoubtedly run into the ever-vibrant President of Norwalk, Caroline Hipple who is bound to be clad in some fabulous, patterned textile herself.

If you are in the Trade, you really must be sourcing Norwalk Furniture. Check out their website – norwalkfurniture.com and especially their 360-Design tool to help visualize pieces. They are now shipping in under 8 weeks!

Be open to a world you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride." - Anthony Bourdain
