9/13 ILPreps: Breaking Down the Rankings, Analyzing Two Weeks of ’26 Commitments Sep 13, 2024
Show notes What up Prep Nation! IL's Dan Kaplan and Terry Foy are back for the first time in more than a month to discuss the process behind ranking the Class of 2026 and assigning the 5-, 4- and 3-Star recruits, then discuss the early movers in the first 11 days since Sept. 1, notably North Carolina, Duke, Harvard, Notre Dame, Maryland, Penn State and Syracuse.

9/11 How Recruiting Works with Denver's Matt Brown Sep 11, 2024
Show notes Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"
In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Denver coach Matt Brown.
Now in his second fall since taking over for Bill Tierney, Brown relates his experience of getting recruited to Denver, how the program built a roster based on three Cs — Colorado, Canada and California — how he evaluates box players' projection to field lacrosse and wonders what recruiting will be like as the game expands farther internationally.

9/9 How Recruiting Works with Bryant's Brad Ross Sep 09, 2024
Show notes Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"
In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Bryant coach Brad Ross.
As one of the youngest coaches to be featured in this podcast series and entering his third season as the Bulldogs' head coach, the conversation examines what Ross learned about recruiting at each stop: as a player at Duke, as an assistant at Brown, Bryant, Ohio State and Navy and how he has aggregated all of that into his approach as the head man in Smithfield.

9/6 How Recruiting Works: DIII Recruiting With CNU's Thompson, McDaniel's DiBartolo Sep 06, 2024
Show notes IL’s Dan Kaplan hosts the first DIII edition of the "How Recruiting Works" series.
Christopher Newport coach Mikey Thompson and McDaniel coach TC Dibartolo join to answer a bevy of questions to shed light on the process for families and recruits.
DII programs do things a variety of ways, and with no scholarships, and less strict regulations the recruiting process can look different depending on program, coach, and support of the institution.

8/31 PLL Happy Hour Podcast: Season Superlatives and Playoff Predictions Aug 31, 2024
Show notes Chris Rosenthall and Kevin Brown wrap up the 2024 PLL regular season with their takes on the end of season award finalists before giving their own superlatives from the summer that was. Then, Rosie and Kevin end the pod with their postseason predictions so stay til the end for their picks for this year's title winners!

8/30 How Recruiting Works with Penn's Mike Murphy Aug 30, 2024
Show notes Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"
In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Penn coach Mike Murphy.
Murphy's conversation is one of the most wide-ranging in the series. With respect to Penn and his personal philosophies, it stretches from the role of the Wharton School of Business to its urban campus to why the Quakers land so many big middies to poaching. With respect to being the father of two (soon to be three, and potentially maybe four) college athletes, he shares how his experiences inform the empathy he feels to recruits and their parents. And as a leader within the men's college coaches' association, he discusses how the trendlines have informed policy.
Check out this last one before Sept. 1.

8/28 How Recruiting Works with Notre Dame's Kevin Corrigan Aug 28, 2024
Show notes Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"
In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Notre Dame coach Kevin Corrigan.
One of the longest tenured coaches in Division I, Corrigan has overseen the development of a program from non-scholarship to scholarship, from making a memorable run to the Final Four to swooning afterward, to establishing itself as a title contender, from moving from the GWLL to the Big East to the ACC. He touches on all that and more, while focusing on issues like promising playing time to recruiting his son to what changes when a program wins a championship.

8/22 PLL Happy Hour Podcast with TJ Malone, Jack VanOverbeke Aug 22, 2024
Show notes With the top play on SportsCenter and a game-winning goal all in his debut, Jack VanOverbeke stole the show in Utah in the Archers' first of two wins to end the regular season as Western Conference Champions.
Co-hosts Chris Rosenthall and Kevin Brown catch up with VanOverbeke (1:01-21:37) to talk about his dream weekend, playing at High Point and learning from Jon Torpey and Asher Nolting, growing up in Minnesota and more.
Then, Whipsnakes rookie TJ Malone joins the show (30:02-44:50) to talk about his fit quarterbacking the Maryland offense, what it's like playing with former Terps at the next level, and how the group chat stays engaged during an off week. Rosie and Kevin finish up recapping the final weekend of regular season action before quickly previewing the two first-round matchups in Boston.

8/20 How Recruiting Works with Utah's Drew McMinn Aug 20, 2024
Show notes Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?" In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Utah coach Drew McMinn.
After playing goalie at Providence, McMinn spent seven years as an assistant at Robert Morris before taking over and serving as head coach for 10 season. Now heading into his fourth year since taking the reins at Utah, McMinn's teams are known for playing a unique style that's heavily dependent on transition. He breaks down how that informs his staff's approach to evaluating, and then dives into the unique elements of recruiting to Salt Lake City, highlighted by an uncommon tuition wrinkle that the university offers.

In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Maryland coach John Tillman.
Reputed among his peers as one of — in not the — hardest working evaluator in terms of the time he spends on the sidelines, Tillman shares with Foy the combination of why and how he and his staff both go about identifying and vetting the best players who might be Terps, as well as how he breaks it up by trying to get laughs on the sidelines.
