Belt and Roadkill Is Tale of UN Corruption By China With Dark Comedy, Series Launched

    Literary Reflection, Book

NEW YORK CITY, Nov 12 – What is a novel? How long should it be? How corrupt is the United Nations? What is the line between real world injustice and fiction, black comedy?

A just published novella, "Belt and Roadkill," raises these questions.

The corruption of the UN, its documented domination by China as evidenced by two recent real-world bribery prosecutions in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York, are the soil or message of the text. But the meta questions about what is a novel(la) is raised by its form and length. (It is available, first on Kindle, here).

Earlier this month Parul Sehgal in The New Yorker bemoaned the democratization of literature, or content, by Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing. But who are the gatekeepers? Who should they be?

The author of Belt and Roadkill, years ago, was on the threshold of elite / elitist publishing, summoned to a venerable firm on Union Square in Manhattan and told that if only the actual names of Citigroup's predatory lenders could be dropped, it might be possible to move forward.

But aren't public figures open to satire, without danger of libel lawsuits?

Aren't those Predatory Benders who foreclose on thousands of homes just targets, like those at the UN who cover up hundreds of rapes by peacekeepers, and ten thousand Haitians killed by cholera, as only two examples?

Belt and Roadkill does not mention Haiti, even once. It does, however, name-check Cameroon and Western Sahara, Huawei and the January 6, 2021 insurrection, breach or protest, whatever your politics.

In Jan 6 Case Lonnie Coffman Pled to Molotov Cocktails But Says Mason Jars Had No Gas

BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

FEDERAL COURT, Nov 12 – Lonnie Coffman has been detained on charges including bringing 11 Molotov cocktails to Washington on January 6. But on November 12 he said there was no gas in his mason jars. After more than two hours, his guilty plea was nonetheless approved. Inner City Press live tweeted it here (podcast here)

now Jan 6 case of US v. Lonnie Coffman. Or cases - he's pleading to a DC and an Alabama case.

Coffman: They used tear gas here in the DC Jail but they used it wrong and I was hit by it. Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly: But you're right to go forward with the plea, right? Coffman: Yes.

Judge Kollar-Kotelly: You're pleading guilty to carry a pistol outside the home outside the home or place of business, multiple counts. Large capacity ammo feeding device. Also the DC code. "Count 15, unlawful possession of ammunition of DC code."

Judge: You are agreeing to forfeit the liquid you brought into the District of Columbia. Eleven Molotov cocktails. You will not be getting back the guns seized in the District of Columbia. You're agreeing to continue to be held without bond until the sentencing.

Judge: How old are you? Coffman: 71. I was born Jan 17, 1950. Judge: Schooling? Coffman: I got my GED while I was in the military. I was born at home in Alabama. There were not records so I don't have a birth certificate.

Judge: Have you ever been hospitalized for mental illness? Coffman: No, your Honor. Judge: Have you read the charges? Coffman: Yes.

AUSA: In the pickup truck where machetes, a cross box, a stun gun, 11 mason jars... With holes in the cap, with golf tees in them AUSA: There were Molotov cocktails under 26 USC 5458f.

He walked toward the Capitol and toward a rally near the National Mall. He carried two additional loaded firearms - pistols, designed to be fired with a single hand.

Coffman: Only one gun was on the passenger's seat. The rest were under the seat. Judge: The others, where were they? Coffman: Under the rear seat.

Judge: What about the machete and stun gun and the cooler with Mason jars? Do you agree with that? Coffman: Yes.

Judge: You're saying there was no gas in the jars? Coffman: No, it had evaporated. Judge: I don't think I can accept this plea. It's no longer a destructive device. Do you want to talk to your client? AUSA: Let them talk privately. The defendant signed this.

[During amateur-hour break-out room, this Press Room quip, based on "if the glove don't fit, you must acquit" - "If there's no gas in the jar This plea's not going' very far."]

For Ghislaine Maxwell Trial She Is To Be Humanely Transported As Release on Bail Denied Again

By Matthew Russell Lee Patreon Periscope Song Video
    BBC - Decrypt - LightRead - Honduras - Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 9 – Ghislaine Maxwell, charged with sex trafficking and other charges, faces a November 29, 2021 trial.

Docketed on November 9 is Judge Alison J. Nathan's order again denying bail, but directing that Maxwell be transported humanely to court each morning: "ORDER as to Ghislaine Maxwell: The Court is in receipt of the Defendant's motion for reconsideration regarding release on bond, Dkt. No. 408, and the parties' letters regarding the delivery of the Defendant's legal mail and transport to the courthouse for pretrial conferences and trial in this case, Dkt. Nos. 381, 403, 422. For the reasons stated in this Court's prior bail determinations, Dkt. Nos. 93, 106, 169, and the Government's letter in opposition, Dkt. No. 423, the renewed request for bail is denied. Moreover, based on the representations from MDC legal counsel regarding the delivery of the Defendant's legal mail, Dkt. No. 422, the Court concludes that the Defendant has adequate access to legal counsel and legal mail in order to prepare for trial. MDC legal counsel and the Government are ordered to take the steps outlined in the Dkt. No. 422 between now and the completion of trial. As to the Defendant's transport, the Court concludes that she will be transported to and from the courthouse for pretrial conferences and trial in a way that is humane, proper, and consistent with security protocols. This conclusion is based on representations from MDC legal counsel in the letter submitted under seal because it discusses BOP security protocols, see Dkt. No. 412, as well as the Court's communication with the United States Marshal for the Southern District of New York."

On October 29, Maxwell and the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York filed a flurry of motions in limine, heavily redacted; the Government argued that trial exhibits are not public and will be withheld.

Inner City Press on April 2 wrote to the Court regarding access the arraignment on April 23. Inner City Press live tweeted it here and below.

For Ghislaine Maxwell Trial She Cites Halo Effect and Epstein Interview With Bannon As Inner City Press Files To Unseal

By Matthew Russell Lee Patreon Periscope Song Video
    BBC - Decrypt - LightRead - Honduras - Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 8 – Ghislaine Maxwell, charged with sex trafficking and other charges, faces a November 29, 2021 trial.

Docketed on November 8 is Maxwell's lawyers' letter describing her proposed expert witnesses and topics, ranging from "highsight bias" and the so-called "Halo effect" (seemingly applied to Jeffrey Epstein - citing a "Confidential" video of Epstein interviewed by Steve Bannon."
On October 29, she and the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York filed a flurry of motions in limine, heavily redacted; the Government argued that trial exhibits are not public and will be withheld.

Inner City Press on April 2 wrote to the Court regarding access the arraignment on April 23. Inner City Press live tweeted it here and below.

On October 29, after the flurry of redacted motions, Inner City Press filed formal requests with SDNY District Judge Alison J. Nathan, now on DocumentCloud here:

Re: US v. Maxwell, 20-cr-330 (AJN), timely opposition to blanket requests to seal portions of motions in limine, trial exhibits, public access

Dear Judge Nathan: On behalf of Inner City Press and in my personal capacity, I have been covering the above-captioned case. This concerns in the first instance the flurry of motions in limine filed earlier this evening, replete with redactions justified by a conclusory reference to Lugosch v. Pyramid Co. of Onondaga, 435 F.3d 110 (2d Cir. 2006).

    and

Now in November, this: PJ police have today arrested an unspecfied number of Portuguese Commandos, and former Commados, suspected of being involved in a criminal organization while on United Nations mission in the Central African Republic. This extraordinary story is still unfolding. Over 100 searches have been taking place in Lisbon, Porto, Bragança and Vila Real while authorities are also described as “investigating a complex web of money-laundering” via the purchase of bitcoins and crypto-currency. This is Guterres' UN - allowing Portuguese troops to rip of Africans, like he allows his son, while banning the Press.

And when Reuters wrote it up, they didn't even mention that Guterres is from Portugal. But there's this: "Defence Minister Joao Cravinho said he informed the United Nations last year." So what happened? How can Guterres get away with these cover ups?

In CIA Leak Case Schulte Gets May 23 Trial Date As US Must Explain Phone Search Delay

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Thread Song https://www.patreon.com/MatthewRussellLee
BBC - Decrypt - LightRead - Honduras -Pod

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 8 – In the conclusion of the month long trial of accused CIA leaker Joshua Schulte, on the morning of March 9, 2020 the jury returned guilty verdicts on Counts 8 and 10, with mistrial granted on all other counts. U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Paul A. Crotty set March 26 for the next date. Then it was moved to April 22 (then May 18). March 9 thread here. Song here.

On March 22 for his second trial, Schulte with the US Attorney's Office's consent proposed to Judge Crotty delaying the second trial from May 10 to the fourth quarter of 2021, with time under the Speedy Trial Act to be excluded to October 1.

On November 9, 2021, a status conference was held before Judge Jesse M. Furman to whom the case has been reassigned. Inner City Press live tweeted it here - the upshot is a May 23, 2022 trial date has been set. Vlog here.

Schulte: What about my Brady violation letter?

AUSA: He wanted more server info from the CIA.

Judge Furman: Letters by next Monday. Now, the motion to suppress. Mr Denton, please says what was classified.

AUSA: We got a second warrant, for the notebooks. Schulte: They got the warrant after they seized my notebooks. It's ridiculous. I'd like an evidentiary hearing. I put a property receipt in as an exhibit.

Judge Furman: I deny that motion. But what about the warrant signed by Magistrate Judge Moses - when did Mr Schulte see it? And why the delay in returning his cell phone? AUSA: It was encrypted. Schulte: This is fruit of the poisonous tree.

Judge Furman: The motion as framed is denied. But there is an issues with the US holding onto the cellphone for two years. I'd like briefing on that. And whatever you can say orally now. Schulte: I need time on that. I don't have access to any law library.

Schulte: I've only been pro se since July. Judge Furman: Once I set a new trial date, there'll be a motions schedule.

AUSA: We'll need 3 weeks for trial. The espionage trial. Then the other charges... Schulte: I filed a civil case but Judge Oetken dismissed it Schulte: I refiled in front of Judge Crotty, who said it had to be civil.

Judge Furman: I'm setting a trial date, I'm thinking 23 May, 2022. Schulte: I need to check if my expect is available.

Judge Furman: It's a firm date, depending... Adjourned. https://www.patreon.com/MatthewRussellLee
