In December 2020, deputies in the Dane County Jail broke Jimmie Joshua’s hip and left him in an isolation cell without medical care for 15 hours. The assault sparked protests and support from the community.
In the first episode of Inhumane Dane, we hear from Jimmie and his sister Tiona Barker about their experience of Jimmie's incarceration and assault. Jimmie also speaks about Dane County's ongoing push to build a new jail. The Dane County Board of Supervisors recently approved an additional $10 million in borrowing to build a new jail, bringing the total anticipated cost to $179 million. We'll look more closely at those plans in the next episodes.
