Episode 182 with James Reimer plus Brandy Osborne and the new True TF7 skates Aug 15, 2022
    Show notes

Episode 182 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a couple of great guests from our week at the NET360 Goalie Camp put on by Alpha Hockey in Kelowna: James Reimer of the San Jose Sharks and multi-dimensional therapist Brandy Osborne.

In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, we catch up with Reimer on the podcast for the first time in more than three years, a span that has seen him work with three different goalie coaches, and soon to be a fourth with new Sharks goalie coach Thomas Speer, who was also at NET360 and is also a past podcast guest. Reimer shared some great insights into how he has found a balance between embracing new ideas from all his new goalie coaches at the NHL level without abandoning the foundation that has helped him thrive for more than 10 years in the League. He also shares some great insights into the evolution of his game and his equipment, including a look at how pros tinker with new lines (in his case the new Bauer Mach) and try to figure out if they want to add the new features to specs they've always used and been comfortable with.

As an added bonus, we also caught up with Osborne, who started working at NET360 as a massage therapist years ago and now brings so much more as part of her never-ending path to provide better ways for her athletes to manage their health and their mindset on and off the ice. It's an approach she calls the Elemental Being ( https://theelementalbeing.com ) and it has been embraced by goalies at the camp and from the CHL to the NHL, including some great takeaways she shares in this interview that you can try for yourself, including breathing to reset yourself and a sensory warm up.

All that, plus our weekly plus a trip to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new True TF7 goal skates, a second price point option with some features popular right up to the NHL.

Episode 181 with Clay Stevenson and the Bauer M5 Pro Stick Aug 06, 2022
    Show notes

Episode 181 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features our second straight new Washington Capitals goalie: coveted college free agent Clay Stevenson.

In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, Stevenson walks us through the NHL recruiting process that followed his strong play at Dartmouth (including breakfast with some guy named Henrik Lundqvist in New York City!) and why he chose the Capitals despite no promises of playing time at higher levels. Stevenson also shares several great stories from and insights into his somewhat unique development path: from not having a goalie coach and not playing AAA hockey between the ages of 12-16, to the BCHL and a breakout .936 save percentage as a 20-year-old despite the death of his mom on that season, to not playing a single game as a college freshman because of Covid-19, to the one season of NCAA that led to plenty of interest from several NHL teams. He also walks us through his evolution on the ice, including a great description of changing his glove position.

All that, plus our weekly plus a trip to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Bauer M5 Pro sticks, a second price point in the Mach line that's popular all the way up to pro.

    Show notes

Episode 180 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features new Washington Capitals goalie Charlie Lindgren.

In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, Lindgren shares his experiences as sought-after free agent on the goalie carousel and how it differed from last season, as well as the changes he made to his game during his one year with the St. Louis Blues that led to that increased demand. Lindgren also shares tips on how to quickly fit in with a new team that goalies of every age headed into a new locker room can apply this fall, and gets in depth on the revolutionary new Bauer KONEKT skates, which he wore all season as one of the first professionals to switch. That ties in perfectly with our weekly plus a trip to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at those KONEKT skates, how they achieve a custom fit in store, who they are for and why they could change the game.

Episode 178 with Kimberly Newell and Bauer's M5 Pro Gear Jul 11, 2022
    Show notes

Episode 178 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features Princeton graduate, European league pro and Olympian Kimberly Newell.

In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, Newell shares her incredible path to playing for China at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, including the story of her remarkable recovery from a badly broken ankle suffered just two and a half months before they started. That incredible comeback wouldn't have been possible without the mental training and mindset work she's done throughout her career, starting with some great stories about pre-game pump ups in the car with her dad, and continuing through a journey of self discovery, including work with sports psychologists, in college and pro. Those examples, and so many more involving her search now for better ways to train on and off the ice while working as a coach and mentor with Empower Hockey in the Vancouver area, make this undoubtedly one of our best interviews yet. It's a lengthy conversation loaded with insights and examples that goalies -- and coaches and goalie parents -- at every level will benefit from hearing. (And oh yeah, we also get into the story behind what was arguably the best set of custom pads from the past season, Newell’s golden dragon Olympic set made by Brian’s Custom Sports).

All that, plus a trip to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Bauer M5 Pro pads and gloves, which offers many of the same pro-level features and incredible value at a lower price point than the top-end Mach line we debuted recently in this same space.
