Thank you for tuning in. Hope you enjoy, and see you tomorrow!

    1. Brokedown Podcast—Workingman’s 50th (Side A).This week, Jonathan releases his two-part celebration of the 50th anniversary of Workingman’s Dead. He brings on author Buzz Poole to break down the record just as he did in his recent book that is part of the Bloomsbury 33&⅓ series. They break down the songs on side one and wrap the episode with a mix of live versions of those tunes.
    2. Beyond the Pond—Black Lives Matter. This week, Brian and Dave said “With everything happening in America in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, we felt it necessary to step back and discuss our thoughts, as well as how we’re communicating racism and the constant pursuit of equality in our country to our kids. We also felt it important to acknowledge that we haven’t done enough as podcasters to highlight the music of black artists, especially those who are up and coming, and we commit to do better. We’ve also included information about a few organizations we’ve donated to that we’d encourage you to as well. Finally, we compiled a playlist of some of the black artists who paved the way for the music we love, as well as those making music today that are blowing our minds.”
    3. Helping Friendly Podcast—Perspective from a Phish Fan of Color. This episode is a rebroadcast of a conversation we brought to you first in 2017 with Phish fans Shaunea Robinson, and Adam Lioz, who wrote a blog post about the whiteness of the Phish scene for Headcount and later went on to start Phans for Racial Equity. We talk about Adam and Shaunea’s Phish journeys, the post Adam wrote, the feedback from the piece, and hear about Shaunea’s experience at Phish shows. And then we play some music that they both chose. We hope you enjoy the episode.
    4. Eric Krasno on Past, Present, Future, Live!We want to give another plug to our newest show, which was just released yesterday. We hope you got to listen to the podcast, check out the video of Eric performing songs live and check out the Spotify playlist of songs discussed in the episode. New episode next week.

The Drop Daily—Past, Present, Future Live! Premieres Today Jun 09, 2020
    Show notes

Past, Present, Future, Live! Today we launch a brand new weekly show. Each episode walks through an artist’s past and present, and we also look to the future with them as well. We then hear and see an exclusive live performance of a few songs that are reflected in the episode.

The first guest is Eric Krasno. We go into depth on Eric’s musical experience, from his discovery of Led Zeppelin to meeting the guys in Lettuce to joining Soulive to his most recent album, Telescope. We also talked about his collaborations with John Scofield, Derek Trucks and Talib Kweli.

Full audio episodes will drop every Tuesday, and video of each live performance will be available on the Osiris website and YouTube. An accompanying playlist of music will also be available on the Osiris site and on Spotify.

Future guests including Rhett Miller, Maggie Rose, Marco Benevento, Ted Leo, Dani Markham and more. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.

And a note on some organizations you can support in this time of crisis: Color of Change, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Campaign Zero, Black Lives Matter, National Bail Fund Network.

    The Drop Daily—6/8/20 Jun 08, 2020
    Show notes

Osiris stands in solidarity with those who are protesting police violence and racial injustice. Black lives matter. We encourage our listeners to donate to organizations working toward change. There are links to several organizations that we support in the show notes.

We are a company that celebrates a diverse, equitable, and just culture. We are able to celebrate music every day across multiple podcasts because of the artists of color who have created, and continue to create, the music that we love.

Our company, and the podcast industry, can do better. We will work harder to amplify the voices of people who create the diverse world we live in, and those who are working towards real change. And we will be focusing on our own commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

A couple things we want to share today.

Music is responding. We’ve seen a lot of encouraging reactions to the current situation by people involved with music. Of course there was Killer Mike’s powerful speech as part of the Atlanta mayor’s press conference. Across the country, music venues and theaters are opening to aid protestors, including 930 Club and Arena Stage in DC, giving access to restrooms, food, and snacks.

Jon Batiste led a march of musicians through New York City over the weekend. Dozens of artists have joined the protests, and many more have donated millions of dollars in support of reform efforts.

Bandcamp announced that this coming Juneteenth (June 19) and every Juneteenth hereafter, for any purchase you make on Bandcamp, they’ll donate 100% of their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. They’re also highlighting artists and labels who are donating to organizations on their website.

Alan Evans on Eric Krasno Plus One.On a special episode of Plus One, Kraz talks with drummer and bandmate, fellow Soulive founding member, Alan Evans. Alan & Eric discuss the ongoing protests against police brutality & racism, the current political climate in the US, and related personal experiences, including a story about Alan’s dad’s protesting of racist treatment as a college football player. The two also spend some time diving into Alan’s career and early memories of playing together in Soulive.

Thanks for tuning in. We’ll see you back here tomorrow. I want to leave you with a quote from James Baldwin: “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.“

Organizations you can support: Color of Change, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Campaign Zero, Black Lives Matter, National Bail Fund Network.

    Show notes

Only two things today. One big announcement, and an interview and stream announcement.

    1. New Show! Past, Present, Future, Live! We’re very happy to announce a new show. This is unlike any show we’ve developed before, which is part interview, part performance. Every week, we’ll be talking to an artist about their past, from their first musical memories to their first paid gig, the present, what they’re doing now, and the future, including what things these artists still want to do. And then at the end, we hear a few tracks that have defined the artist’s musical journey. The show premieres next Tuesday, June 2, and the first 4 guests are Eric Krasno, Rhett Miller, Marco Benevento and Ted Leo. Every week, the performance videos from the episode will be posted on our YouTube page. Check out the trailer in the show notes now, and subscribe so you don’t miss it—you can get it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
    2. Ekoostik Hookah Interview and Stream Announcement! I had the pleasure to talk to Dave Katz, one of the founding members and the real heart behind the band Ekoostik Hookah. I have been listening to them for a long time, and got to talk to Dave about a special two-night stream they have coming up this weekend. This is a replacement for the Memorial Day and Labor Day Hookahville, which you’ll hear about in the interview with Dave that’s coming at you right now.

Welcome back to The Drop! Hope you enjoy!

    1. Road To Now 4th Anniversary! There was a lot happening when Bob and Ben launched the first episode of The Road to Now on May 19th, 2016. It was the year of a Presidential election, there was an intense feeling of partisanship in the air, and people were everywhere- at concerts, in classes, on the sidewalk. They talk about how things have changed, and what is happening now. Congrats guys!
    2. Daily Soundcheck—Roseland Ballroom 2000. One of the more intimate shows in modern Phish, the 3,200 seat Roseland Ballroom was an incredibly tough ticket. Filmed for VH1 this soundcheck features fun takes on many classics. A thirteen song soundcheck with one of the coolest venue histories make this one fun episode!
    3. 6pm—Dave Matthews Band 5/30/06. This week’s DMB Drive In is a show from 5/30/06 from Maryland Heights, MO.
    4. 8pm—Bob Weir with The National Rebroadcast. This week for Weir Wednesday, there’s a special rebroadcast of ‘The Bridge Session,’ filmed live on March 24th, 2012 at TRI Studios. Produced by HeadCount and directed by Justin Kreutzmann, this studio performance features members of The National exploring songs of the Dead and The National.
    5. Moments in a Box—Let Creativity Flow. I was inspired to mention this series that we produced earlier this year after reading a series of articles about how this current pandemic may change music technology forever. Hosted and narrated by Amar Sastry, this 3-episode series goes deep on music and technology. It features interviews with people from Splice, Union Square Ventures, Downtown Music, and Aron and Jon from The Disco Biscuits.

    1. 36 From the Vault—Dick’s Picks 9, 9/16/90.In episode 9 Steve and Rob take you to Madison Square Garden in New York City on 9/16/90. This is a different kind of Dick’s Picks, just two months after Brent Mydland passed. They have two new keyboardists, Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby, with a really interesting and weird performance. A really unique and odd point in Grateful Dead history, which we are happy to have Steve and Rob’s take on. They also focus on the late 80s/early 90s and some other musical and cultural perspectives as well.
    2. Touchdowns All Day—2 Episodes with Allen Aucoin. This rounds out the band member interviews with a two-parter, where Jon and Allen go deep into Allen’s cajun family life and growing up around the military with his father in the Special Forces. Listen to hear about family crawfish boils in Germany, his healthy lifestyle and meditation, rudimentary drumming practices, influences, and more in this TDAD exclusive interview. Part 1 and part 2.
    3. 5:00pm—Rad Night in America, JRAD 1/1/16.This week they’re going back to 1/1/16 at The Capitol Theater. This show features really great takes on I Need A Miracle, Must Have Been The Roses, and Dancing > Eyes. As with most Capitol Theater shows, this one is a standout.
    4. 7:30pm—HF Pod Live with Andy Gadiel. We are going to be previewing the Dinner And A Movie show with one of the original curators of the Phish scene, Andy Gadiel. He was at the 7/21/97 show, which will be the focus of this week’s Phish archival webcast. Please tune in with us to preview the main event!
    5. 8:30pm—Dinner And A Movie, 7/21/97. The main event this Tuesday is the first 1.0 show to be featured so far, Phish from Virginia Beach on 7/21/97. This is Phish’s first real show in 1997 in the US, and features a bunch of American debuts. This is the beginning of possibly Phish’s most celebrated year. Obviously it is their most celebrated year, there’s no question. And the food comes from Don Angie in NYC, a great spot. Trey said: “For this week’s Dinner And A Movie we thought it would be thrilling to invite Scott Tacinelli and Angie Rito of Don Angie to design a menu.”
