    Imperfect Strangers

Amanda, a graphic designer from OH, invited Melissa, a NY stay-at-home mom on her podcast. Melissa, who has been hunkered down for decades after a cool but soul-crushing brush with fame on MTV’s Real World New Orleans, didn’t really do this sort of thing but Amanda seemed nice. They recorded twice due to technical difficulties, but ended up chatting for hours. Who the fuck talks on the actual phone? They do! Two strangers getting to know each other the old-fashioned way. Get to know Melissa all over again as she gets to know Amanda for the first time. Bonus! One’s white and one ain’t.

    Working Mom Jun 18, 2021
    Show notes

2021 is the year of “like, realizing things” for Melissa. Melissa and Amanda discuss the true ins and outs and emotional costs of working outside the home (or in the home remotely while parenting). Amanda, who’s been known the struggle, gives Melissa some encouragement and suggests maybe she lower some of her hygiene and cleanliness standards. Them’s already low though, Melissa cries, as her feet are now ashy and her kitchen sink is full. Dreadful, but Amanda is like, “Welcome to the real world, Melissa.” Working Moms Deserve It All, ya heard?!

Written in the Stars: A Reading With Astrologer Andy Bellatti Jun 11, 2021
    Show notes

Melissa and Amanda sit down for an illuminating discussion with astrologer Andy Bellatti to find out more about their serendipitous working relationship turned friendship. Known as synastry, synastry charts are used to examine relationships between two people, more specifically, how they may affect one another individually. Using information from both women’s birth charts, Andy was able to determine how Amanda’s personality intersects and works with Melissa’s to create this kinda-totally-functioning podcast. There’s healing and career growth to be found in this friendship which WOW! Enjoy this fascinating talk and if by the end, you’d like your birth chart read, you can find the super talented Andy at https://astrologywithandy.com, on Instagram and his podcast where cosmically, Melissa is also a guest this week!

    Camp May 28, 2021
    Show notes

Amanda patiently listens, like a friend would, as an overwhelmed Melissa wonders why the Prozac isn’t working yet. Then, Melissa is in deep panic about attending a kibbutz in the Catskills this coming weekend. Small talk, community bathrooms, outside, ticks, family togetherness — the woman is stressed and will not shut up about it because her husband had forbidden her from sharing her bad feelings aloud. Elsewhere in conversation, Amanda wonders how she can keep her kids from wanting all the nice things the very rich kids in town have. Melissa suggests making conformity seem like the worst.

Black And Not That Mild: An Interview With Jade Verette May 21, 2021
    Show notes

Since a recurring theme around here is turning internet friends into IRL friends, Melissa introduces Amanda to her intimidatingly cool friend Jade. When multitalented Jade Verette, half of hilarious podcast Jade + XD and half of Gettin’ Grown with Keia and Jade, is not podcasting, she’s a busy mom, chef, and drank-maker (™). Sit back and enjoy as she and Amanda bully Melissa for not yet watching Living Single. Plus, marvel at how it is all three of these women share a mutual joy of renaissance fair turkey legs. Bonus: Listen for the lighter flicks and inhales. LOL. Looks like Jade might have found her #thirdwhitefriend.

Best Moms Ever May 14, 2021
    Show notes

As outside opens up, Melissa and Amanda talk about their anxiety with re-integrating into society and socializing again for the sake of their children. The two also discuss feeding their picky children. Fast food shame is real. Both say we moms should not villainize fast food or moms who serve it. Let’s undo that shame. It’s convenient, everybody’s still alive and healthier options are still offered (and forced). Be sure to stick around to the end to find out which celebrity did some weird shit to one of Melissa’s body parts — with consent, of course. Turns out Melissa and Amanda both have weird pleasures. It’s smelling like friendship around here!

Parenting Your Parent Apr 23, 2021
    Show notes

In this safe space, Amanda shares that her dad, lovingly known to this community as Arthur, is experiencing an unexpected health situation. As the oldest daughter, and an enneagram 5, Amanda has taken control and kicked solutions into high gear. Later in the episode, Melissa admits she’s wrong about children having phones. Egg on the face! Plus, Melissa begrudgingly loosens her Covid protocols now that she’s double vaxxed.

    TMI Apr 16, 2021

There’s a lot going on in this episode! Amanda and Melissa intended to have arguing time because Quinn is campaigning for a phone and we all know Melissa is pulling for the girl to have one before the start of 6th grade. But before they got to that, there was discussion on white folks staying outta Black business, inexplicably My First Period and how to really use a body basal thermometer. Maybe they’re becoming friends because none of this felt weird. LOL.
