    IFPRI Policy Seminar : Water Security in a Changing World - 7/12/2018 - LObeng Jul 17, 2018
    Show notes

Speaker: Letitia Obeng, Global Water Partnership Secure water supplies are critical to future sustainable economies and societies. Unprecedented human impact is directly degrading resource quality on every continent and, through global warming, threatens vast change in hydrological systems, with impacts on water availability and access in nearly all parts of the world. Those with fewest resources to tackle these changes will inevitably suffer the most. Please join us as we inaugurate IWMI’s US-based office in Washington, DC, with a discussion of our collaborative research to tackle these complex challenges. The seminar will focus on new and promising solutions to ensure a more water-secure future with less risk and greater equity for rapidly growing populations and economies worldwide.

IFPRI Policy Seminar : Addressing gender and social barriers to resilience - 6/27/2018 - YAvakyan Jun 27, 2018
    Show notes

IFPRI Policy Seminar : Addressing gender and social barriers to resilience - 6/27/2018 Speaker: Yeva Avakyan, Associate Vice President, Gender Equality, Save the Children The concept of resilience is catching on among humanitarian and development actors seeking to help individuals, households, and communities prepare for, adapt to, and recover from severe shocks and stresses. Many organizations are recognizing that individuals’ resilience capacities and vulnerabilities differ significantly and are shaped by their gender, class, caste, ethnicity, marital status, and other forms of social identity. What lessons can we learn from efforts so far that aim to address gender and social barriers to resilience? This seminar will bring a focus on how three organizations are working to study and shift intra-household decision-making dynamics to strengthen resilience. Presentations will draw on research and programmatic learning from IFPRI’s Gender, Climate, and Nutrition (G-CAN) Initiative and new project-level Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (pro-WEAI), Mercy Corps’ Building Resilience through the Integration of Gender and Empowerment (BRIGE) program, and Save the Children’s Livelihoods, Agriculture, Health Interventions in Action (LAHIA) Program.
