    iFanboy – Comic Books

The iFanboy.com Comic Book Podcast is a weekly talk show all about the best new current comic book releases. Lifelong friends, Conor Kilpatrick and Josh Flanagan talk about what they loved and (sometimes) hated in the current weekly books, from publishers like Marvel, DC, Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, BOOM! Studios, IDW, Aftershock, Valiant, and more. The aim is to have a fun time, some laughs, but to also really understand what makes comic books work and what doesn’t, and trying to understand the craft of this great, often under appreciated art form. Sometimes they agree, and sometimes… they don’t. With decades of experience talking about comics, interacting with comic book professionals, this is all about the love of an art form. If the names Brian Michael Bendis, Amanda Conner, Geoff Johns, Gene Luen Yang, Donny Cates, Jason Aaron, Kelly Thompson, David Marquez, Kelly Sue de Connick, Kieron Gillen, Charles Soule, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Scott Snyder, Tom King, Mitch Gerads, Esad Ribic, Rick Remender, Nick Spencer, John Ridley, Skottie Young, Chip Zdarsky, Jöelle Jones, David F. Walker, Grant Morrison, and Darwyn Cooke get you excited, then this is the place for you. This podcast is so good, you don’t even need to read comic books or graphic novels to enjoy it, but it’s a lot better if you do.

    iFanboy.com Pick of the Week #389 - Astro City #1 Jun 09, 2013
    Show notes

It’s all about Kurt Busiek (rhymes with “music”) as the creator gets the double whammy, with both Pick of the Week and Book of the Month honors with one show. Has it ever happened before? Who has time to check. All we know is that Conor is hungry and really wants a bagel. Good comics await, and the temperatures are more moderate. That makes for a good show.

In week where one comic book really showed the rest how it's done, another one ended an epic run, and a third began an unwelcome crossover, Conor Kilpatrick worked blue, Josh Flanagan was sleepy, and Paul Montgomery espoused some... interesting ideas about population control.

Talksplode #64 - Glen Weldon of Superman: The Unauthorized Biography May 23, 2013
    Show notes

Seventy-five years ago, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster ushered an orphan son of Krypton through the fields of Kansas and up, up and away to the height of popular acclaim. These days, you'd be hard pressed to find someone unaware of Superman or his mild-mannered counterpart Clark Kent, but NPR's Glen Weldon knows the character better than most. Thankfully, he's sharing history and insight in the pages of Superman: The Unauthorized Biography. We spoke with the author at length about the best and worst iterations of the storied hero, from comics to radio to film and even the Broadway stage.

iFanboy.com Pick of the Week #386 - Edgar Allen Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher #1 May 19, 2013
    Show notes

This week? This was not our kind of week. That’s not to say comics were bad, but we had to work to find the standouts. And yet, it wasn’t impossible. Still, by the end of the overlong episode, there were script problems, and mean things are said to each other. Forget it. We’re gonna go play Warcraft III.
