Episode 241: NHL's Pride Night Disaster Mar 24, 2023

Show notes

On today's episode I discuss the NHL's Pride Night initiative and how it has backfired on the league. Several of the players from around the league have refused wearing "special" warm up jerseys to celebrate Pride Night. Many of the players have cited religious beliefs for refusing to participate. The Chicago Blackhawks decided to forgo the warmup jerseys citing Russian law that could make life very difficult for their three Russian players. I have said this for years....when pro sports leagues start moving into the political and social arena, this is exactly what happens. In this case the NHL has nobody to blame but itself for the criticism coming their way from the LGBTQIA+ community and their supporters.

Grants Rant: 3-23-23 NBA Refs Under Attack Again Mar 23, 2023

Show notes

Another night of NBA Basketball and another night of complaining about the refs. In Dallas, Mavs owner Mark Cuban filed a protest after the Mavs lost to the warriors by two points. Cuban feels the refs made a mistake in the 3rd quarter that led to an easy basket by the Warriors. In LA, Suns coach Monty Williams went on a post-game tirade about the refs after his team lost to the Lakers. No matter how you slice it, the refs and the constant complaining is not good for the league!

Another game and another injury in the NBA last night. Paul George of the Clippers went down with a knee injury and as of this recording we still don't know the severity, but it did not look encouraging. The Kings have 10 games left and seem to be locked in no worse than third in the conference. After that it's anyone's guess!
