Episode 277: My First NBA Opener Oct 24, 2023

Show notes

Tonight begins the 2023-24 NBA season. The Kings play their opener tomorrow night in Salt Lake City. On today's episode I reflect back to my first ever NBA broadcast in November of 1988. The site was Portland, Oregon and little did I know that would be the start of 32 years of calling Kings games. I reflect on one of the most amazing phone calls I've ever received. The King's previous TV announcer. Tom Curran, called me in my hotel to wish me luck. That was such a classy gesture by Tom, something I have never forgotten. The Kings lost badly to the Blazers that night, but it didn't matter to me. I was living a dream to be announcing NBA basketball! I then talk about my last time in an NBA arena, March of 2020 and the start of the pandemic. I conclude by giving my thoughts on this year's Kings squad.

Grant's Rant: 10-24-23 49ers Meltdown Oct 24, 2023

Show notes

My how quickly things can change in the NFL. Two weeks ago the 49ers looked unbeatable. Last night the Vikings had 452 yards of offense enroute to the victory. The Niners have now lost two straight!

Grant's Rant: 10-23-23 NFL Week 7 Thoughts Oct 23, 2023

Show notes

There appear to be many bad teams in the NFL, but the Ravens aren't one of them. Lamar Jackson was brilliant yesterday as the Ravens dismantled the 5-1 Lions. One team that is going the opposite direction....the Bills. They barely beat the Giants at home last weekend and yesterday allowed the Patriot's prevent offense to score 29 points in a 29-23 loss. Must be frustrating being a Bills fan!

Grant's Rant: 10-20-23 James Harden Again! Oct 20, 2023

Show notes

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I don't know why any team would want James Harden on it. The Sixers veteran missed practice for the 2nd straight day yesterday. The team officially said Harden isn't with the team for personal reasons. If that's the case somebody might want to tell head coach Nick Nurse. His comments after practice sure didn't make it sound like Harden was gone due to personal issues.

Episode 276: Travel Down Kings Memory Lane Oct 20, 2023

Show notes

On today's episode I compare this era of Kings basketball with what happened in the late 90's and the turn of the century. Last season very few people expected the Kings to be a playoff team and yet they finished 3rd in the West. In 1998-99 the Kings made the playoffs in an abbreviated 50 game season as a 7th seed. Not many thought the Kings would make the postseason that year, but it ended up being the start of a long run of success. I see many similarities between this Kings team and the ones from the "glory" years more than 20 seasons ago. The question is will this era of Kings basketball led by DeAaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis be able to go further than the teams with Bibby, Webber, Vlade, Peja and company? Only time will tell, but something special appears to be brewing in Sactown!
