    Grant's Rant: 6-29-21 Damian Lillard takes heat for a non-story. Jun 28, 2021
    Show notes

Today's rant should not exist. There. I said it. This is something that could only happen in today's crazed social environment and it appears that Damian Lillard of the Portland Trailblazers is taking the heat. He's getting blasted for his comments on the acceptance of a few names for head coach of which Chauncey Billups was one. Evidently, there was a sexual misconduct charge that was settled through a civil action over 20 years ago. And Damian was supposed to have known this? He was about 7 or 8 years old at the time. Yet, here we go again from those who have nothing better to do than dig around and make a stink by accusing him of endorsing a sexual perpetrator. You have got to be kidding me. I lay it all out as best I can tell in today's rant but don't be surprised if this is enough for Damian to push for a trade that has already been offered by the NY Knicks. What a shame. What a pathetic statement of where we are today in what social media can cause to happen.

Episode 77: Mark Boyle, long time voice of the Indiana Pacers shares some stories. Jun 28, 2021
    Show notes

Mark Boyle has seen quite a bit in Indianapolis during his 33 years as the voice of the Pacers. To name just a few, he was broadcasting when the fights broke out during what became known as the "Malice in the Palace". He's seen a myriad of coaches weave their way through the town including Larry Byrd and Nate McMillan. We'll talk about some of the high profile players like Reggie Miller and Ron Artest. We even touch on the sport itself and if the NBA is in need of a refresh. Is the three point shot taking something away from the game? The city of Indianapolis, the vibrancy of its' core, its' sports teams and successes... including some of the reasons it is the way it is. I feel like I got a bit of a history lesson about the state and the city. I think you're going to enjoy our conversation.

Grant's Rant: 6-28-21 Jay Williams ghost posts. Jun 28, 2021
    Show notes

By now, you've probably heard about the pickle Jay Williams of ESPN finds himself in. After tweeting that Ime Udoka is the first head coach of color for the Boston Celtics, he then responds that somebody stole his password and posted that. Not that he was "hacked" and not that he's going to make every effort to hold whomever did this accountable. The issue is that Ime is not the first, second third or fourth coach of color for the Celtics. He's actually the fifth. So Jay, not only did you not know that Ime wasn't the first, but clearly, you don't manage your own Twitter account. And whomever does, does not do their homework. Embarrassing enough but who has been posting for you? Hmmm. I think it's time for a little truth be told. For you, for ESPN and for the insult to both Ime and the Celtics. How are you going to handle it Jay? The world of sports is listening and waiting. Albeit with only one ear....

Grant's Rant: 6-25-21 Marvin does it again. Jun 25, 2021
    Show notes

The title of today's rant pretty much says it all only this time it was really about as dumb as it gets. We all know Marvin Bagley and his "supportive" family have an issue with Sacramento. That's not much of a secret but now the full truth is out and Marvin wants out of dodge. He's removed the team from his social accounts and "liked" a tweet suggesting he needs to get out of Sacramento. Even though who the heck would want him? We're not sure he's as good as he thinks he is, or as his daddy thinks he is or as his uncle thinks he is. Heck, he's never been healthy enough to play out a season and when he was playing, well, we're just not sure. Marvin, I sure hope you're NOT playing for Sacramento next year as the market is beginning to think you and the circus surrounding you are all clowns and if you do show up on the court, the Kings loyal will boo you off the court. Which is exactly what they should do. Grow up and go away young man. Goodbye.

Episode 76: Chuck Cooperstein, long time Dallas Mavericks voice talks Dirk vs Luka and more. Jun 25, 2021
    Show notes

Chuck has been a friend as long as we've both been calling games and that's saying a lot knowing the rivalries between the Sacramento Kings and the Dallas Mavericks. Today we get to share stories about what he sees on the Mavericks with a competitive team and a great roster including Luka Doncic. We even touch on the Dallas Cowboys and what he sees the team doing going forward. You might be surprised here as I may not be so quick to agree. Always a good conversation when you get an east coast and Texas couple of guys together to talk sports. I mean really now, can anything great come out of Texas? Join us as we learn a little bit more about and from a truly great guy and sportscaster from Dallas.

Grant's Rant: 6-24-21 When does 2 minutes equal half an hour? Jun 24, 2021
    Show notes

If you're like me, you like to see things move along in their normal course of action with little interruption. Like basketball or baseball or football. But in every sport, the instant replay is getting in the way and slowing the game down as well as any momentum a team may have been getting going into the replay. The noise on the Phoenix Suns vs LA Clippers earlier in the week where the last two minutes of the game took 30 minutes, yes, count 'em, 30 minutes, a full half-hour to play out the last two minutes is ridiculous. Especially in the last two minutes where every little bit of momentum makes a world of difference. This has to stop or the league is going to continue to lose viewers if for no other reason than they got tired of waiting. I want to know how you feel about it to text me, hit me up on YouTube and leave me a comment. You know where I stand, I would love to hear from you.

    Grant's Rant: 6-23-21 Josh Smith exposes a dark side. Jun 23, 2021
    Show notes

Apparently, Josh Smith has an issue with previous coaches and this time it's a vulgarity laced rip on Doc Rivers and his performance in game 7 against the Atlanta Hawks where his Philadelphia 76ers simply fell apart. Smith squarely sets aim on Rivers as a phony. In an embarrassing and disgusting use of language, including the "N" word prolifically, Smith blames and bashes Rivers for his lack of in-game adjustments and then attacks him personally as well. I've got quite a bit to say about this but the bottom line is how embarrassing and low are things going to get in the NBA when this is what fans and even kids are hearing from former players? How low have we stooped generally in society when this is the kind of attention these people get? I'm disgusted and this is truly disgraceful to the NBA, the players and the coaches. I think Josh Smith is cementing his legacy in showing who he really is and diminishing any of the positive things he left on the court. A shame.

Grant's Rant:6-22-21 Father's day at Torrey Pines teed off not teed up! Jun 22, 2021
    Show notes

First, congrats to Jon Rahm who clearly had the course under control at the US Open Sunday at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. Good for him as he deserved a victory. Class act he is. But what the hell happened to everyone else? It was horrible golf on the back nine. Teed me off to have to put up with what I was seeing. Bryson DeChambeau shoots a 44? And this is professional golf at the highest level? Rory Mcllroy falls apart and the some of the best golfers on the tour blow up on the course? As a Father's day gift of time to sit and watch some of the greatest players take on the challenge of the course and tournament play, I was disgusted at what I was seeing. Disappointed to say the least. But happy for Jon Rahm and surprised by nearly everyone else. Let me know what you thought about it. I'll look forward to hearing from you on YouTube or Twitter.

Episode 75: Karma comes a knockin' in the NBA. Jun 22, 2021
    Show notes

There's an old song by the "Lovin' Spoonful" called "Do You Believe In Magic". I say we start singing it with the word Karma replacing the word Magic. Well, maybe you do, maybe you don't but consider this... and I'll go much more in-depth than what you'll get in the notes today but here are the facts:
-Rick Carlisle bashes Atlanta for firing Head Coach Lloyd Pierce and Atlanta goes on to win and find themselves deep in the playoff hunt. Rick Carlisle on the other hand led the Dallas Mavericks right out of the playoffs with some dramatic failures and finds himself out of a job. Karma in my mind.
-Kyrie Irving. Karma? He's out with a bad ankle, can't play and his tea m loses to the Milwaukee Bucks. I think Karma came aroumd.
-James Harden. Too bad about that hamstring but no-matter what, healthy or not, nobody should have gotten too excited because he chokes it up in the big games and doesn't make the commensurate contribution that's necessary when you really need him.
And I have to make a comment on Kevin Durant. He did leave it all on the court the last few games. Great to see him acknowledge the Milwaukee players as well at the end of a difficult and very exhausting effort. That was professionalism and a true sportsman. Good to see. Join me for the conversation as I think you'll learn a little, laugh a little and leave with a little bit of a different perspective. Let me know what you think about Karma as well. You can leave a message on my Apple Podcast in the comments section, reach me on Twitter with @grantnapearshow or comment on my YouTube channel. I would love to hear what you think.

Grant's Rant: 6-21-21 The animals run wild in the NBA. Jun 21, 2021
    Show notes

Wow, what a weekend for the NBA! Surprises for many. Hawks and Bucks go wild. So, can we expect an apology ever, from Dallas Maverick's Head Coach, Rick Carlisle? Recall, he bashed the front office of the Atlanta Hawks for the "insane" move in getting rid of their previous head coach and putting in Nate McMillan in the interim. Looks like it was a pretty good move to me, Rick. How is it watching on TV in Dallas vs on the court in Atlanta? And how about those Milwaukee Bucks? I've been critical of them and did not think they would be able to pull it off. But luckily for them, Harden did what Harden does in the playoffs. Very little. And with Kyrie out, even Kevin Durant couldn't single handedly make it happen. But boy did he give it a great effort. Kudos to him and the class act of recognizing the victors in a well played game all the way thru overtime. And then there's Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia '76ers. Let's talk about him for a minute. And I do, in today's rant.
