We are honored to highlight another outstanding woman in our city, Dr. Gretchen Gillyard Petterway. A career in the health professions has been a lifelong goal for Dr. Gretchen Gillyard Petterway. Since childhood, she dreamed of becoming a physician, so she planned her studies accordingly. While at Grambling State University, the Mansfield, LA native majored in biology and pre-medicine. After graduating from Grambling State University, Dr. Petterway was a clinical research associate for the Department of Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. While in residency, Dr. Petterway received multiple awards, including intern of the year, intern in-service training service exam top score award, and continuity clinic intern and graduating resident award. In August 2020, she graduated from Harvard Medical School, receiving a certificate in Pediatric Leadership. She loved this experience because it allowed her to study abroad in London, England.
Dr. Petterway is an American Board of Pediatrics certified pediatrician. For the past 11 years, she practiced general pediatrics in Shreveport, LA, at Christus Pediatric Associates and served as a medical director at four Christus Health School-Based Health Clinics. Recently, she joined Mid City Pediatrics in Shreveport, LA. She is excited to announce that she is now a published author of a children’s book series, with the first one, I Am Cool, released in March 2019. Dr. Petterway passionately shares her prior struggles with low self-esteem and Adverse Childhood Experiences while motivating and assisting children and teens in developing their inner champions.
She recently launched her global platform, All Things Dr. G: Faith, Family, and Pediatrics, to encourage a healthy, well-balanced, and divinely aligned life. She recently launched PillowTalk for Girls: Puberty, Power, and Purpose, which is an interactive program that walks girls through Puberty Education, Power tools for future success, and an introduction to the concept of Life’s Purpose. Approximately 150 girls have completed PillowTalk for Girls to date.
Dr. Petterway is a Silver Star member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and is a recent Athena Award nominee, 2023 African American Award Recipient, and received a 2023 KSLA Black History Month Trailblazer Recognition.
