1941 Cape Girardeau UFO Crash: The Alien Coverup Before Roswell | 216 Dec 28, 2020

Show notes

No one expects their grandma to hit them with some crazy family secrets while on her deathbed. But when those secrets involve a UFO crash, dead alien bodies, and a U.S. government coverup - well, granny sure knows how to go out with style. That's also the basis for this week's story as we go back in time to investigate the Cape Girardeau UFO Crash of 1941. Plus, the fellas talk Nick Pope shenanigans, drinking in cornfields, and enjoying small town wineries (separately of course - we're not implying the fellas were drinking at a winery in a cornfield with Nick Pope - though that sounds delightful). All of that and more on the podcast that can’t wait to make up some crazy stuff to tell our loved ones on our death bed - Hysteria 51.

2020: It's a Wrap! | 215 Dec 21, 2020

Show notes

2020 Wrap: Monoliths, Galactic Federations, and Potted Meat. We run screaming from 2020 like...someone trying to quickly escape a really crappy year (give us a break, we ran out of metaphors around the 34th month of 2020). To help wrap this dumpster fire we talk monoliths, galactic federations, and our favorites of 2020 (hint: Cyberpunk 2077 isn't among them). Oh, and we do a mini CAFEteria 51. All of that and more on the podcast that joyously celebrates the end of 2020, but wonders what 2021 has on its bingo card – Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant - Raymond Walden IVVideosStephen Interprets The Message Of The Mystery Monoliths - https://youtu.be/busUiHojAXYWebsitesYahoo News - https://news.yahoo.com/former-israeli-space-security-chief-135211193.htmlIndependent - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/monoliths-around-the-world-2020-b1770335.htmlThe Guardian - https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2020/dec/08/monolith-makers-strange-objects-aliens-reflective-wildernessesNew York Post - https://nypost.com/2020/12/04/details-of-leaked-pentagon-reports-include-unidentified-ufos/

The Richat Structure: The Eye of Africa or The Heart of Atlantis? | 214 Dec 14, 2020

Show notes

There isn't much we know about Atlantis (including whether it actually existed or not). And the few things we think we DO know are steeped in Greek lore. But what if Atlantis DID exist and wasn't anywhere near Greece? What if it were on an entirely different continent? This week Adam Poston of The Twisted Ten joins the fellas and makes the case that a geologic structure in modern day Mauritania is actually the ancient ruins of Atlantis. Plus, Conspiracy Bot starts reading the encyclopedia (we didn't know he could read either). Brent tells us why Atlanta holds a special place in his heart (hint: it's not the weather). And John makes inane jokes about Ancient Greek philosophers (we wish we were joking). All of that and more on the podcast that isn’t sure where Atlantis actually was...we didn’t have an altimeter when we visited - Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources: Research Assistant - Raymond Walden IVVideosThe Lost City of Atlantis - Hidden in Plain Sight? The Circleville Letters | 213 Dec 07, 2020

Show notes

How do you know things are serious? 1. Robert Stack gets involved. 2. Robert Stack gets involved... 'nuff said. How did a simple affair send one man to jail, kill another, and terrorize an entire hamlet...in a mystery that remains unsolved to this day? Ohio is the answer! We ask the rest of the questions this week as we examine the case of the Circleville Letters. Plus, Brent talks about his days as a vigilante (that's a kind interpretation), Conspiracy Bot acknowledges that most of his fans are in jail (also a kind interpretation), and C-Bot wants a pen pal (nothing clever to add here...just don't do it). All of that and more on the podcast that doesn’t write any anonymous, threatening, or vilifying letters, but we can't say the same for our robot(s) – Hysteria 51.

The Woman in Black at the Drake Hotel | 212 Nov 30, 2020

Show notes

Drake Hotel - Chicago. While it's everyone's favorite boutique hotel that doubles as a plot point in Mission Impossible it ALSO happens to be the setting for an UNSOLVED MURDER-most-foul in 1940's Chicago. A mysterious woman in black shot and killed a local socialite in her own room. And in perhaps an equally appalling offense - she was wearing a lamb coat (ok, the murder might be worse, but this thing was hideous). Anyway, that's just the appetizer in this confounding conundrum involving grifters, disappearing evidence, and a Pulp Fiction level divine-intervention to save a second shooting victim. Oh yeah, and GHOSTS! This week we grab our khaki trench coats and investigate The Woman in Black at the Drake Hotel. Plus, Conspiracy Bot tells everyone how good at chess he is (surprising). Kyle tries to eat a chess board (less surprising). And we learn C-Bot's been playing checkers the entire time (there it is). All of that and more on the podcast that asks the tough questions – like, was everything in the olden days in black and white? – Hysteria 51.

Spring-Heeled Jack Revisited | Bonus Nov 23, 2020

Show notes

HOUSEKEEPING!!! WANT ME FLUFF PILLOW???Maybe not that housekeeping, but it is a housekeeping week on Hysteria 51. We are switching to new host. What does that mean for you? Nothing, everything stays the same. But for us it just means some backend stuff while we get everything transitioned over. We will be back next week with brand new content, but until then enjoy one of our favorites from the back catalog, Spring-Heeled Jack!

Original DescriptionThis week we hop BACK over the pond to merry ol’ England to tackle a most vile and sinister serial…slapper? Well – slapper, groper, fire belcher, carriage crasher, and more. This week we’re looking into the legend of Spring Heeled Jack. This mischievous prankster allegedly had metal claws, could leap over 10 ft. walls, breath blue fire, apparently loved to slap authority figures, and cause carriages to crash. But who was this British bouncer? Is this just a folk tale re-told over the years to explain away hundreds of different events, was there a person of extraordinary ability terrorizing the countryside, or were these just a series of glorified fraternity pranks? David Flora of the Blurry Photos podcast joins the fun to help us uncover the identity of Britain’s strangest urban legend. Plus, Conspiracy Bot tries to get rid of Flora (he’s protective of BRENT’S beer), the fellas all try their hands at a British accent and fail miserably (shocking), and a related ghost in Long Island sounds eerily similar to Keanu Reeves (whoa). All of that and more on the podcast that’s never terrified women by blowing fire into their face, we do it the old-fashioned way, by letting them see our work ethic and bank account – Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sourcesResearch Assistant – Raymond Walden IVBooksThe Legend of Spring-Heeled Jack | Karl BellThe Mystery of Spring-Heeled Jack: From Victorian Legend to Steampunk Hero | John MatthewsVideosThe Mystery Of Spring Heeled Jack – https://bit.ly/2Wpxk4ZCryptids and Monsters: The Spring-Heeled Jack – https://bit.ly/2FyRO4HWebsitesWikipedia – https://bit.ly/1rPK59yAtlas Obscura – https://bit.ly/2JAEkJOHistoric UK – https://bit.ly/2JJTGNdBBC – https://bbc.in/2p6amzNMysterious Universe – https://bit.ly/2uwobvABlurry Photos – http://www.blurryphotos.org

The Swimmers of Lake Baikal | 211 Nov 16, 2020

Show notes

"You just never know what you'll see when you go swimming in Siberia." It's one of our favorite quotes (and one we just made up), but it's true and this week's topic proves it! In 1982 a team of Russian Navy divers go exploring in Lake Baikal when, to their amazement, they encounter giant, humanoid beings obviously not of this world. So, they did the only reasonable thing…tried to capture them with nets! Let's just say the rest of the story doesn't work out as well for the divers…it's the Swimmers of Lake Baikal this week on the show. Plus, the fellas discuss Dolph Lundgren's MENSA membership (and his dashing good looks), Conspiracy Bot finally starts to accept his loss in the election (things get broken), and Brent starts talking hip like the kids do (well, he tries). All of that and more on the podcast that’s never gone swimming in Siberia, when we’re there, we keep it to training for heavyweight bouts against Dolph Lundgren – Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant - Raymond Walden IVVideosDid The Soviet Union Discover Aliens In The Deepest Lake In The World? - https://youtu.be/DVq7gBH70WEWebsitesLake Baikal Wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_BaikalDecompression Sickness - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decompression_sicknessWired - https://www.wired.com/2009/07/russian-navy-declassifies-cold-war-close-encounters/Scribol - https://scribol.com/uncategorized/the-fathomless-mysteries-of-the-deepest-lake-on-earth/6/?as=799&asv=1DNA - https://www.dnaindia.com/technology/report-aliens-love-oceans-indicate-russian-navy-ufo-records-1277861Down The Chupacabra Hole - https://downthechupacabrahole.com/2019/03/21/the-russian-navy-divers-who-were-attacked-by-aquatic-aliens-lake-baikal-humanoids/The Siberian Times - https://siberiantimes.com/other/others/features/f0077-aliens-and-ufos-at-worlds-deepest-lake/Find More Great PodcastsForthHand Media - http://forthhand.com/shows/

Mel's Hole | 210 Nov 09, 2020

Show notes

Sometimes nature's rules don't apply. Paranormal phenomena defy physics. Living beings defy death. Substances and materials defy their own make-up. And sometimes random holes in the Pacific Northwest do all of the above! At least that's the story according to Mel Waters about his aptly named "Mel's Hole". Where exactly is the hole? Does it really contain supernatural powers? Can it bring creatures back from the dead? Is Gordon Freeman's story from Half-Life actually a true story? We tie a rope to our ankle and dive into Mel's Hole this week. Plus, Conspiracy Bot refuses to concede the election (no surprise), Kyle makes a valid and salient point during a discussion (that is a surprise), and he then promptly overheats and shuts down (there it is). All of that and more on the podcast that’s never brought an animal back to life by throwing it down a bottomless pit – we do it the old fashioned way, by burying it on old Indian burial grounds in New England - Hysteria 51.

It's Electric: The Electric Universe "Theory" | 209 Nov 02, 2020

Show notes

You didn't think flat-earthers had cornered the market on looney tunes, pseudoscientific explanations for how the world works, did you? Well, we pop that thought balloon this week as we delve into the world of the Electric Universe. TL;DR - all of that crap you learned in school was wrong and the root of every force in the universe is electricity. Oh, and black holes don't exist. There's more and if you want to hear it you'll have to tune-in (you should tune-in either way). Plus, C-Bot releases his final campaign commercial before the election (we know, we can't wait for it to be over either), Kyle explains the internet (you can guess how that goes), and TJ Withington of the "Pick Me Podcast" gets his wish and joins the show (we don't get it either).
