    The Celtic Bodhrán is a traditional Celtic drum played with a wooden mallet that is commonly used in Irish music--especially traditional Celtic songs. It's distinct, tuned-percussive sound has been a favorite choice for Irish composers and performers alike.
    Although not traditional, the Irish Bouzouki has found a home in the modern Irish traditional music scene. The Greek bouzouki was introduced to Irish traditional music in the late 1960s by Johnny Moynihan and then popularized by Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine, and Alec Finn. Today's Irish bouzouki (usually) has four courses of two strings (usually) tuned G2D3A3D4. The bass courses are most often tuned in unisons, one feature that distinguishes the Irish bouzouki from its Greek antecedent, although octaves in the bass are favored by some players.

    Nearer, My God, to Thee Mar 06, 2013

    The film Titanic featured the hymn "Nearer, My God, to Thee" a 19th century hymn most famous as the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank.
    Written by Sarah Adams, Music: Lowell Mason, 1856 ,based loosely on Genesis 28:11–19,the story ofJacob’s Dream.
    Genesis 28:11–12 can be translated as follows: "So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it..."

    "The song was written while I was conducting a meeting at East Palestine, Ohio, in the home of George Sebring (founder of the Sebring Campmeeting Bible Conference in Sebring, Ohio. For some time, I had struggled be­tween developing my talents in the field of art and going into full-time evangelistic work. At last the pivotal hour of my life came, and I surren­dered all. A new day was ushered into my life. I became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent hither to unknown to me. God had hidden a song in my heart, and touching a tender chord, He caused me to sing."

    “The hymn was written in 1870 in the city of Brooklyn, New York, while I was pastor in that city. I had felt the need of a hymn to aid seekers of heart purity while at the altar. I had desired something, simple in expression, true to experience and ending in the full­ess of love. The tune composed by Mr. Fischer, with the first two lines of the chorus, I had seen, and was much pleased with their simplicityy. And as I was sitting in my study one day, the line of thought came rushing into my mind, and I began to write, and in a few minutes the hymn was on paper.”

    It was first sung at aNational Camp­meeting, June 22, 1870. The words were first published in The American Bapt­st Praise Book, 1871.
