Sunday Side Session: Huskers survive and advance Oct 09, 2022
    Show notes

Nebraska football survived on Friday with a 14-13 win. On Sunday John Bishop of 1620 The Zone joined Mike Schaefer to look back at the game and what happened.

The two start the conversation with Nebraska’s slow open to the game and the defense’s quick rebound following an ugly first drive. From there the conversation gets to how the Huskers figured out some adjustments on both sides of the ball.

A big chunk of the Sunday conversation centered on a pair of Huskers who had important performances on Friday night. There’s was Garrett Nelson, who followed up his Indiana game with another strong outing against Rutgers. And Casey Thompson who hung tough behind the patchwork and struggling offensive line, taking hit after hit but giving the Huskers a chance in the comeback.

Finally there’s conversations about the big concern for Nebraska moving forward and what to make of Mickey Joseph as Nebraska’s coach after three games so far.

    Show notes

You getting hyped yet? No worries let Husker247 get you prepared for this Friday night slobberknocker between Nebraska and Rutgers.

As always things start on the offense where Casey Thompson’s series benching is discussed, Anthony Grant’s usage is debated and we ponder what role Travis Vokolek can carve out after a couple quiet games following his return.

Then the conversation on defense gets underway with thoughts on sustainability, who can step up for the Huskers and where Rutgers might look to attack.

Then finally it’s prediction time where the group gives their oddly specific predictions which involves tight end touchdowns, wide receiver carries, field goal tries and a scary kick return. Those are followed by picks to click and score predictions. Does the HypeCast believe Nebraska can go 2-0 in October? Listen in and find out.

Husker247 Podcast: Defensive improvements and watching Wisconsin Oct 04, 2022
    Show notes

This week on the Husker247 Podcast Michael Bruntz and Mike Schaefer discuss what went right and what felt different about Nebraska-Indiana.

There were noticeable changes in how things played out in Memorial Stadium, both on the field and on the sidelines. The guys discuss why the defense looked better and if it can be sustained. Then they move over to the offense and hit on some of the skill position players.

Plus Schaefer finally apologies for an offseason take that only looks stupider every passing day.

Finally there’s discussion about the coaching search and Wisconsin’s new entry into the fray with the decision to fire Paul Chryst.

And as a bonus the show inexplicably ends with Michael Bruntz trying to name every team in the Sun Belt. After all it’s the Husker247 Podcast. You get what we give.

Sunday Side Session: Confidence building win Oct 02, 2022
    Show notes

Remember victory Sunday? They used to be a little more commonplace but Nebraska players, coaches and fans all get to enjoy the feeling this week after the Huskers spirited 35-21 win over Indiana. Joining Sunday Side Session is Jake Sorensen to walk through an ugly but critical game for the Huskers.

How’d Nebraska pull out the victory? What changes were made after a needed bye week? Who’s been some of the Huskers standing out?

From there the conversation turned to going through Nebraska’s game from a special teams play to the Chubba Purdy decision to Turner Corcoran ejecting himself for his actions to the Huskers surfing a barrage of their own mistakes.

Finally can Mickey Joseph turn this audition into a permanent thing?

    Husker247 HypeCast: Indiana Sep 28, 2022
    Show notes

Former Husker Todd Peterson joined the HypeCast to discuss Nebraska’s upcoming game with Indiana and where things sit with the program.

First the group tackled Nebraska’s offense with thoughts on how the Huskers handle tempo, where things could stand to be a little bit or a lot better and who might pickup some of the work at running back with Ajay Allen out for the rest of the season.

Then they transitioned to defense where the discussion focused on the type of coach Bill Busch has been in the past, what things might be different, where personnel could change and if any new players make debuts soon for the Huskers.

Finally it is prediction time. How oddly specific can things get? As usual someone pushes the envelope and there’s talk of total game time and plays run, in addition to players breaking out and some maniac even predicted a positive yardage kick return.

Those predictions are followed by picks to click and score predictions? Did anyone take Nebraska? Did everyone? Find out for yourself.

Husker247 Podcast: Defensive fixes and thoughts on Dave Aranda Sep 27, 2022
    Show notes

Programming note: Technical difficulties caused an abrupt ending to the episode.

Mike Schaefer and Brian Christopherson gather to talk about if anyone still has chords for their headphones, the bye weekend and Nebraska's upcoming game against Indiana.

Among the topics covered are how the Huskers could change things up and what might be expected for the defense with Bill Busch now in the defensive coordinator role. Additionally the two discuss which backups could see more run as the Huskers look for answers on that side of the ball.

Then the conversation moves over to the coaching search and more specifically Dave Aranda the latest hot name in the Nebraska coaching search. Could Nebraska try to back up a brinks truck in Waco?

Husker247 'Crootin Talk: Carl Reed Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

247Sports analyst Carl Reed joins Mike Schaefer to talk about Nebraska's next head coach from a recruiting perspective.

Reed coached in the St. Louis area for decades, had players recruited by multiple different Nebraska staffs and grew up during a time when the Huskers were absolutely rolling in college football.

What can Nebraska's next head coach do recruiting wise? Does a head coach need to be a top flight recruiter? Where should Nebraska look recruiting wise?

The two then discuss just what is the Nebraska job and who do the Huskers need? Finally Carl gives three names he thinks would be good fits for Nebraska to look at for the next head coach.

Husker247 Podcast: Busy, busy bye week Sep 21, 2022
    Show notes

It's a bye week in Lincoln, but that doesn't mean things are slow at the moment with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who are practicing for a few days this week before the staff gets out to recruit and continue to add to the 2023 recruiting class and beyond.

First the trio discusses Nebraska's defensive situation and how Mickey Joseph plans to handle things there. Bill Busch is now in charge of the defense, but given that the team is in season what changes are really possible?

From there discussion moves on to the the offensive side of the ball as Ajay Allen and Teddy Prochazka are injured and done for the year. What does it mean for both of them and could the Huskers need to play defense with the running back to make sure he's still in Lincoln next fall?

Finally it's time to talk coaches and there's plenty of discussion about Matt Campbell, Lance Leipold and Bill O'Brien, as the three are expected to be the top candidates the Huskers are expected to consider at this time. What are the concerns with each? Why could the work? All those answers and more on this edition of the Husker247 Podcast.

Sunday Side Session: What exactly can Nebraska fix for 2022? Sep 18, 2022
    Show notes

On this Sunday following a 49-14 loss to Oklahoma that could've looked even uglier if Brent Venables had chosen to really let Nebraska have it, former Husker and current radio personality Damon Benning joins Mike Schaefer to talk about the Huskers.

The conversation starts about Mickey Joseph and his willingness to put the loss on himself after having the head job for one week. From there the two discuss what's going wrong with Nebraska, concerns over strength and conditioning combined with athletic fits at positions and where the Huskers can go during the bye week.

Two particular spots are giving Nebraska problems the trenches and the secondary. Damon examines each and the show finishes with his thoughts on where things have gone well for the Huskers through four games this season.

Technical difficulties cut the show short, but Husker247 will be back with several podcasts during the bye week.
