Husker247 Podcast: Crystal Ball predictions and Valentine's Day Feb 14, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 Podcast’s Valentine’s Day gift to you is a brand new episode to help shorten the offseason by 40 minutes.

The gang talks about Valentine’s Day and which cards they picked out as kids and other memorable moments from the holiday. Somehow it led to the discussion of the 1990s including the baggy nature of the suits and Counting Crows.

Somehow things stayed on the rails enough to get to a discussion about Dylan Raiola and the recent Crystal Ball prediction. The trio went over the important questions: Why? When? And what does it mean?

Brian Christopherson broke down where things sit for Nebraska basketball at the moment and what it would mean to get a couple more wins this regular season, both for the current players and for the direction of things under Fred Hoiberg.

Michael Bruntz walked through the opening of baseball season and dove into how the Huskers stack up these first few weeks as the Big Ten team will be on the road to get some games in during February.

Husker247 Podcast: Talking through the 2023 Super Six Feb 10, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 podcast returned on Friday and didn’t make a single Super Bowl reference or a prediction. That’s because the group was too busy chatting about a recent press conference with tight ends coach Bob Wager and wide receivers coach Garret McGuire, as well as working through the Super Six.

Here’s what happened on the latest podcast:

Things start with thoughts from Michael Bruntz and Brian Christopherson on Bob Wager and his position room. From there Mike Schaefer forces Christopherson to make a prediction about the position group and he learns more about the addition of former LSU and Georgia tight end Arik Gilbert.

Following that conversation the group focuses on McGuire and how the young assistant handled his first real media appearance. Discussion turned to how McGuire fits with the staff, why he could be a big asset and why there are not real concerns about his ability to coach similarly aged receivers.

After a short break the conversation turns to the Super Six and all three run through their ballots before discussing some of the surprises in the results. Then its sleeper time and each walks through some other names they considered.

Christopherson sends it home with a discussion about Nebraska’s upcoming game against Wisconsin, Bruntz invents a new Mount Rushmore and Schaefer fondly recalls when the Bob Devaney Sports Center would welcome Colorado’s Richard Roby onto the court.

Husker247 Podcast: What we've learned about Rhule so far Feb 07, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 Podcast returned to its full form on Tuesday as all three of Michael Bruntz, Brian Christopherson and Mike Schaefer gathered to talk about the recruiting class, positional outlooks, and then dove into a little basketball and baseball to finish things out.

Things started with football where Bruntz and Christopherson dove into how Matt Rhule and company finished things out. Each gave thoughts on what they learned about Rhule and the staff during the last couple months and what could carry over into future classes.

All three discussed recruits that committed in the last few weeks and which players stand out as additions in the second signing period, as well as which positions received a boost for next season and if there’s a surprise player in the mix like we saw with Malcolm Hartzog.

From there things transitioned to basketball and Christopherson broke down Nebraska’s big win over Penn State and how Keisei Tominaga stepped up to carry the Huskers, as well as what he’s seeing from Jamarques Lawrence and why Ramel Lloyd is a name to know for coming seasons.

Bruntz then weighed in with thoughts on Nebraska baseball as the Huskers are just a week away from the season beginning out in San Diego. Bruntz provided a couple newcomers to know as Will Bolt looks to turn things around after a rough 2022 season.

    Show notes

The guys also preview another big recruiting weekend for Matt Rhule and his staff and discuss Nebraska basketball's win over Ohio State and what the road forward looks like with Juwan Gary.

Portal additions, portal subtractions and the picture at EDGE and WR Jan 17, 2023
    Show notes

Husker247's Brian Christopherson and Michael Bruntz break down a newsy few days in the transfer portal that saw the Huskers add Georgia transfer MJ Sherman, lose Stanford transfer Walter Rouse and retain two former players out of the portal to help add depth to the wide receiver spot.

Husker247 Podcast: What's next after adding Walter Rouse? Jan 13, 2023
    Show notes

Nebraska landed a big offensive tackle in Walter Rouse and isn’t yet done with the transfer portal. Mike Schaefer and Michael Bruntz get together to discuss what the Huskers are cooking up and where things seem to be headed to close out the class.

First though Bruntz walks through why Rouse is a big addition and what it means for all parts of Nebraska’s line. Then the duo discuss if his absence this upcoming spring while rehabbing a shoulder injury matters much.

From there the two talk about initial impressions following the press conferences from running backs coach EJ Barthel and defensive backs coach Evan Cooper. What do we know about Rhule’s staff following these conversations? What do we know about those respective position groups?

Finally the two hit on the tight ends that visiting Nebraska this weekend, as Bruntz walks through where things sit for former Georgia Bulldog Brent Seither and how the Huskers are in a strong spot with 2024 recruit Ian Flynt.

Husker247 Podcast: NU adds one transfer, more on the way? Jan 10, 2023
    Show notes

Nebraska had a busy weekend of official visits from transfer portal recruits and the basketball team went up to Minnesota and came back with a victory. The Husker247 Podcast breaks both of these down in its latest episode.

Things kick off with the commitment of Virginia wide receiver Billy Kemp, who announced for the Huskers on Monday night.

The trio of Michael Bruntz, Brian Christopherson and Mike Schaefer discuss the commitment and how Kemp fits, what reasonable expectations are and more. Discussion shifts to the wide receiver room at large and the guys debate who could be in a position to help the Huskers the best in 2023.

From there things move to the offensive line as the Huskers hosted a pair of portal targets over the weekend and things look pretty good for adding one or both of Micah Mazzccua and Walter Rouse. Each lineman made it in over the weekend and the Huskers have the need up front after a tumultuous 2022.

Bruntz explains why Rouse would be among Nebraska’s biggest portal additions and Christopherson explains how adding either would be a boon for a much maligned offensive line — and how the picture changes dramatically for Donovan Raiola if the Huskers walk away with some big recruiting wins.

Things move to the hardwood and a discussion about Nebraska’s basketball team coming through against Minnesota and a preview for a big game against Illinois.

Schaefer predictably makes everyone have predictions for the Illinois game, but doesn’t yell about hype into the microphone.
