    Garrick Jones - X for Extortion Sep 04, 2021
    Show notes

He threw his head back and laughed loudly, his arms crossed on his chest. "You?" he said once he'd regained his breath. "You? Thomas Haupner, the violinist? The would-be army officer from some stupid, derelict relic of the British Empire, a trained assassin?"

After returning from a secret mission in occupied France for His Royal Highness, George, the Duke of Kent, Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Haupner is looking forward to a cup of tea, a hot bath, and the sleepy head of his American lover, Major Henry Reiter on his shoulder when he wakes up the next morning.

However, along with items Tommy has recovered for the duke, he has also discovered a secret stash of documents, which, when opened, prove to be a poisoned chalice. Tommy and Shorty find themselves caught up in a dangerous web of lies, enemy agents, assassins, and traitors. In an effort to save the reputations of not only their friends, but men and women high in both society and in the government, they themselves become victims of I.K.S., a former World War One international extortion ring, which has risen, phoenix-like, from the ashes of bomb-devastated London.

Jeff Oliver - Scattered Thoughts Sep 03, 2021
    Show notes

WHAT ARE JEFF’S SCATTERED THOUGHTS?Jeff’s vision of pouring himself into his work is captured with satisfying precision in this work of poetry that is half love and half mayhem. In this collection, you will find equal parts madness and insanity, paired within the confines of reality. Jeff shares that his writing is the doorway to his mind and inner thoughts: a journey that you should dare not take lightly. Because once you do, you have officially entered the mind of a poet. Here you will embark on a journey to discover emotions you never knew you had and experience the power of the written word like you’ve never before. Each page of this work contains its own story, with a searing brand of emotion that only Jeff could conjure up. Your thoughts will be stretched to the limits and before long, they too will be scattered, searching for the correct way to go. Jeff spills his words within these pages from the deepest corners of his soul. They are real! The experience is unique! And his words are genuine, having you questioning your own sanity in more ways than one, revealing doors that were never meant to be opened and lines never meant to be crossed. And from all that, pain that was never meant to be felt, as intimately as love that was never meant to be exposed. In the mind of this poet you just really never know which direction the cold winds will blow. But one thing is for certain: each stroke of the keys that formed these thoughts was written to be felt and shared in a different mindset…sometimes in a different Hell. And with all that, Jeff asks the one question you may not be ready for: with your entire mind and soul, are you ready to walk through these pages that are my Scattered Thoughts?

    Show notes

Adaline Rushner is a woman in pieces. Her daughters have gone missing, and although the authorities seem to have found their bodies, something still isn’t right. Her husband, Cache, can’t bear the pain and wants to move on, but Adaline can’t shake the feeling they’re still alive. She even starts seeing them in the house, though Cache does not. Adaline wonders whether this current tragedy has something to do with the misfortune and painful experiences she suffered in her own childhood, but her memories have gaps in them that she can’t quite close on her own.

After Adaline and Cache move to Salt Lake City, everything gets even stranger. Local cop Officer Abbott thinks Adaline’s distinctive owl necklace may somehow link to his own missing daughter. Adaline’s neighbor Maggie offers assistance and comfort, but Adaline suspects her of hiding other truths from her. Adaline tries to prepare for her girls’ eventual return while investigating her own past forgotten traumas, but a threatening message urges her to let the past stay forgotten. Can Adaline find the truth and save her marriage to Cache, or will the tangled web of memories from her past keep her from moving on?

Author Lauri Schoenfeld’s psychological thriller is a suspenseful tale of family trauma, discovering our inner strength, and understanding the power of forgiveness.

    Michael Bussee - Exodus Sep 01, 2021
    Show notes

Michael Bussee, one of the founders of Exodus and Gary Cooper, a leader within the ministry of Exodus, left the group to be in a relationship with each other in 1979. They divorced their wives and participated in a commitment ceremony in 1982. Bussee and Cooper lived together until Cooper's death from AIDS-related illness in 1991.

In June 2007, Bussee issued an apology for his involvement in promoting orientation change through Exodus. Also apologizing were Jeremy Marks, former president of Exodus International Europe, and Darlene Bogle, the founder of Paraklete Ministries, an Exodus referral agency. The apology stated in part "Some who heard our message were compelled to try to change an integral part of themselves, bringing harm to themselves and their families." Bussee stated, "In the almost 40 years since I started Exodus International, I can honestly say that I have never met a gay person who became heterosexual through conversion therapy or ex-gay programs. Yes, some stayed celibate for a time. Some even married and said they were happy. But most of those marriages ended with very painful divorces

Randy Thomas - Netflix Documentary 'Pray Away' Aug 31, 2021
    Show notes

Having grown up in the city of Nashville, Tennessee, in the ’80s, when the AIDS/HIV crisis was in full swing, Randy Thomas was not only exposed to constant homophobia but was also kicked out of home when he came out to his family. Apart from all this, there was also the bullying he suffered in public and the media’s snide remarks on his community. He thus moved to Texas, where he fell into the slippery slope of alcohol and drugs before he learned about an “ex-gay” ministry affiliated with Exodus in a local church. Randy soon devoted himself to the path and rose through the ranks

‘Pray Away’ is a Netflix original documentary movie that explores the story of a handful of individuals who either underwent the traumatic experience of conversion therapy or served as advocates for the “ex-gay movement.” With Exodus International and Freedom March, every similar group aimed at the LGBTQ+ community and promoting “change” through Christianity is highlighted, as their primary goals are the same. And it’s all done for the sobering reality check that such “treatments” are simply virulent, which former Vice President of Exodus agrees with. So, let’s find out more about him

John FD Taff - The Bad Book Aug 19, 2021
    Show notes

    The Good Book.

You might have clutched it in your church pew on Sunday mornings. You know the one?

With the pebbled black soft cover, the words HOLY BIBLE stamped in gold ink.

Perhaps it strengthened your faith, comforted you in dark times.

Multiple Bram Stoker Award-nominated John F.D. Taff has assembled a Last Supper of Dark Apostles to turn some of those "good book" parables on their heads--twisting Bible stories into sinister horror tales.

Blasphemous? Heretical? We sincerely hope so.

As you read on, remember one thing, though.

There’s no comfort to be found in The Bad Book.

    No comfort at all.

Alan Baxter - The Gulp Aug 18, 2021
    Show notes

Strange things happen in The Gulp. The residents have grown used to it. The isolated Australian harbour town of Gulpepper is not like other places. Some maps don’t even show it. And only outsiders use the full name. Everyone who lives there calls it The Gulp. The place has a habit of swallowing people.

A truck driver thinks the stories about The Gulp are made up to scare him. Until he gets there.

Teenage siblings try to cover up the death of their mother, but their plans go drastically awry.

A rock band invite four backpackers to a party at their house, where things get dangerously out of hand.

A young man loses a drug shipment and his boss gives him 48 hours to make good on his mistake.

Under the blinking eye of the old lighthouse, a rock fisher makes the strangest catch of his life.

Five novellas. Five descents into darkness. Welcome to The Gulp, where nothing is as it seems.
