Jennifer Anne Gordon - The Japanese Box Sep 05, 2023
    Show notes

The Japanese Box is a story that blends memoir, creative nonfiction, and the horror of a coming-of-age

story, and a coming of middle-aged story.

Imagine growing up with a reflection that is often absent, and a Japanese box that is filled with things that

    should never have been there.

    Memories.

    Violence.

The Japanese Box is a love letter to anxiety, trauma, grief, and longing. It is a story of a child becoming

an adult, and all the ghosts and misfortunes that happen in order to survive.

The Lithium Moon: Simone is an artist by day, and an emotionally abused wife at night. She is a

successful artist with a long history of schizoid effective disorder with bipolar tendencies.

When her marriage goes from good to bad, she suffers her first miscarriage. The tragedy coincides with a

wolf moon—Trauma and magic converge seem to converge in Simone’s head.

This story explores sadness, illness, hallucinations, full moons, and the creative process.

What Stage of Grief is not a poem, or a song, but a dirge.

Fantasy and facts, this poem walks a fine line between nightmares and memories. Grief stories and love

stories. Dogs, and drama. Nightmares, and nevermore.

Cyndi Brec loves diving into the imaginary world of books. She is an avid reader of YA, historical fiction, and fantasy. Cyndi lives in Ohio with her fun, loving husband, and two energetic kids. Her experience as a Recreational Therapy Technician for the Geriatric psych and mentally challenged, love for travel, and creative story building has given her many facets to draw from building her story world. She sets a struggling-affection, tension-building pace, full of conspiracies and intrigue, in a mysterious ancient world in the series Marked for Life, an urban fantasy romance.

She says her inspiration came from a grandmother who always told her, ‘Believing in yourself is half the battle, now fight to make your dream a reality.’ These words deeply resonated within her, especially since she had academic difficulties throughout school. She's learned to love challenges and has found some of the greatest rewards are found after you've struggled.

Through determination, Cyndi and her husband purchased a 200-year-old mill, renovating it, and built a home out of a blacksmith shop. They owned the property over twenty years and loved every minute of it, but sold it to a wonderful conservation group. Cyndi likes exploring new things, when she’s not creating mischief in the kitchen or playing with her three pups. It turns out she’s a clean-acholic, but when it comes to cobwebs, she’s on vacation. So, spiders will never lose a home to her. Her favorite hobbies are hiking, bike riding, writing, but most of all spending time with her kids and husband, Rich. And when she's not up to trouble, she kicks back and relaxes with a bottle of Peach Snapple with her favorite man ... her husband.

A Knot Within A Knot by Jason Parent: A man survives a plane crash only to find himself in darker circumstances, with a winter storm on the horizon and an orphaned child in tow. An elderly woman faces off against a god of night and his steed from the confines of her airplane seat, while another hides from night and storm in the hope of a new dawn. Unbeknownst to them, their fates are linked and dependent upon the next two tales.

Bound in the Valley of Balor by Curtis M. Lawson: After surviving a plane crash, a corrupt federal agent and a mob informant find themselves stranded in a remote valley. Blood spilled during a conflict between the two awakens an ancient evil bound beneath the valley. Can either of them escape from The Valley of Balor?

Summons by William Meikle (part of hisMythos of Sigils & Totems): Would you fall slave to the rhythm?

He came to Scotland after the death of his wife in search of peace. But the old house is restless. Something is waking, something noisy, something that will not be denied.

His search for meaning in the face of ever increasing activity in the house leads him down strange occult pathways, into deep history and a story that is racing to a finish.

The rhythm calls to him. Will he fall slave to it? Or is there a path to be the drum master before it subsumes him utterly?

This Celtic horror anthology is perfect for fans of folk horror, myths and legends, supernatural horror fiction, Grimm fairy tales, and Scottish survival horror, or fans of Ritual by Adam Nevill, Bag of Bones by Stephen King, or the legendary Ramsey Cambell.

Sara DiVello - Broadway Butterfly Aug 24, 2023
    Show notes

New York in the Roaring Twenties—a riveting true-crime novel, based on one of the most notorious unsolved murders of the era, where power, politics, and secrets conspire to bury the truth.

Manhattan, 1923. Scandalous flapper Dot King is found dead in her Midtown apartment, a bottle of chloroform beside her and a fortune in jewels missing. Dot’s headline-making murder grips the city. It also draws a clutch of lovers, parasites, and justice seekers into one of the city’s most mesmerizing mysteries.

Among them: Daily News crime reporter Julia Harpman, chasing the story while navigating a male-dominated industry; righteous NYPD detective John D. Coughlin, struggling against city corruption; and Ella Bradford, the victim’s Harlem maid, closest confidante, and keeper of secrets. Adding fuel to the already volatile crime: a politically connected Philadelphia socialite, an Atlantic City bootlegger, Dot’s dicey gigolo lover, a sultry Broadway dancer, and a cagey sugar daddy guarding secrets of his own.

From Broadway’s glittering lights to its sordid underbelly to the machinations of the country’s most powerful men, Julia embarks on a quest for justice. What she discovers, twist after breathtaking twist, might be even more nefarious than murder.
