CHRIS HANSEN - HANSEN VS PREDATOR Jun 18, 2019
    Show notes

The highly successful "To Catch a Predator" series, which ran on Dateline NBC from 2004-2008, has been syndicated on MSNBC and other cable networks all over the world. My new series will reflect the changes in the social media landscape and the new generation of connected electronic devices. With this new investigation, we will once again raise awareness of the ongoing threat of sexual predators targeting underage children. When "To Catch a Predator" first launched, my crew and I implemented groundbreaking hidden camera techniques to capture the charged confrontations of predators. In what they thought were the homes of their victims (actually decoys posing as minors), we interviewed these unsuspecting men. Working in collaboration with local law enforcement, the 12 investigations led to the uncovering of about 300 predators, including trusted professionals from teachers to clergy to military men. Over 80% pleaded guilty or no contest and received punishment up to 24 years in prison.

GALE CARRIER - PSYCHIC CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR Jun 15, 2019
    Show notes

It's likely that I was born with psychic ability. I have four brothers and a sister and all of us have some degree of psychic talent. I will say, however, I didn't think of using my gifts as a vocation until the early 80's when I found myself laid off and needing to support my young family. Since then, I've performed thousands of readings and met some awesome people. I've traveled to places that many people only dream about and met people that are often considered hard to reach

NOTORIOUS SAN FRANCISCO - PAUL DREXLER Jun 14, 2019
    Show notes

San Francisco, a city founded in part by criminals, was once one of the most dangerous cities in America. Its Barbary coast was called “a unique criminal district that was the scene of more viciousness and depravity, but it possessed more glamour, than any other area on the American continent.”“San Francisco Notorious” brings back the glamorous depravity and noir atmosphere that made it the premier location for murder thrillers like “The Maltese Falcon,” “Vertigo,” and “Zodiac.”

JESSIE WALKER -UNITED STATES OF PARANOIA Jun 13, 2019
    Show notes

Jesse Walker’s The United States of Paranoia presents a comprehensive history of conspiracy theories in American culture and politics, from the colonial era to the War on Terror.

The fear of intrigue and subversion doesn’t exist only on the fringes of society, but has always been part of our national identity. When such tales takes hold, Walker argues, they reflect the anxieties and experiences of the people who believe them, even if they say nothing true about the objects of the theories themselves.

With intensive research and a deadpan sense of humor, Jesse Walker’s The United States of Paranoia combines the rigor of real history with the punch of pulp fiction.

This edition includes primary-source documentation in the form of archival photographs, cartoons, and film stills selected by the author.

Truman Capote's bestselling book "In Cold Blood" has captivated worldwide audiences for over fifty years. It is a gripping story about the consequences of a trivial robbery gone terribly wrong in a remote village of western Kansas.

But what if robbery was not the motive at all, but something more sinister? And why would the Kansas Bureau of Investigation press the Attorney General to launch a ruthless four-year legal battle to prevent fresh details of the State's most famous crime from being made public, so many years after the case had been solved?

    Show notes

Rod Pyle is a space historian who has worked with NASA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Johnson Space Center. He has written ten books on the history and technology of space exploration and science for major publishers in the US, UK and Asia, including Mars: Making Contact (Sterling Books), Blueprint for a Battlestar (Andre Deutsch) and Amazing Stories of the Space Age (Prometheus Books), all due in 2016. ROSS ELDER - JUST STOP CONSPIRACY Jun 06, 2019
    Show notes

Originally intended to be a series of articles on conspiracy theories, debunking investigations, and how not to be fooled by the internet, the information grew too rapidly to be contained by the website. It was decided that it would work better as a small book. In this work, Ross Elder, the conspiracy debunking author of The Fireman Saga series, gives the reader a few tips that will aid them in their attempts to verify information they encounter on today's conspiracy-laden social media. Being a skeptic, basic investigative practices, and some general guidelines for determining legitimacy are covered in the six chapters of Just Stop. The goal of this work is to encourage people to "just stop" for a few minutes and do some basic research before they share and perpetuate unfounded rumor and falsehoods across the internet

MATTHEW MCGOUGH - THE LAZARUS FILES Jun 04, 2019
    Show notes

On February 24, 1986, 29-year-old newlywed Sherri Rasmussen was murdered in the home she shared with her husband, John. The crime scene suggested a ferocious struggle, and police initially assumed it was a burglary gone awry. Before her death, Sherri had confided to her parents that an ex-girlfriend of John’s, a Los Angeles police officer, had threatened her. The Rasmussens urged the LAPD to investigate the ex-girlfriend, but the original detectives only pursued burglary suspects, and the case went cold.

DNA analysis did not exist when Sherri was murdered. Decades later, a swab from a bite mark on Sherri’s arm revealed her killer was in fact female, not male. A DNA match led to the arrest and conviction of veteran LAPD Detective Stephanie Lazarus, John’s onetime girlfriend.

The Lazarus Files delivers the visceral experience of being inside a real-life murder mystery. McGough reconstructs the lives of Sherri, John and Stephanie; the love triangle that led to Sherri’s murder; and the homicide investigation that followed. Was Stephanie protected by her fellow officers? What did the LAPD know, and when did they know it? Are there other LAPD cold cases with a police connection that remain unsolved?

After recovering from amnesia five years ago, Jessica Mack never told anyone she had started hearing voices from the spirit world. Now, forced to use her “gift” to help find missing four-year-old Ethan Starkey, she can no longer ignore the voices. Time is running out for little Ethan as Jessica, and Sage Boles, a man with a mysterious past, are guided to a séance, where they hope to get clues to the child’s whereabouts.

“With ‘Proof of Life,’ Sheila Lowe continues her fascinating series that began with ‘What She Saw,’ where Jessica Mack’s life was fractured in a terrible accident. Now, years later, she struggles to understand a gift she has been given, a gift that frightens her as she attempts to grasp its meaning in her life. ‘Proof of Life’ is a heart-wrenching and heartwarming story that explores the universe beyond the veil, delving into the universal questions we all contemplate. BARBARA CASEY - DOLL WOMAN SPY May 31, 2019
    Show notes

In the early 1930s, Velvalee Dickinson moved to New York City where she opened her own exclusive doll shop. She built her reputation as an expert in rare, antique, and foreign dolls. She traveled extensively around the country lecturing and exhibiting her dolls while building a wealthy clientele.

Due to her husband’s poor health and her failing business, she accepted the role as a spy for the Imperial Japanese Government. By hiding coded messages in her correspondence about dolls, she was able to pass on to her Japanese contacts critical military information about the US warships.

The FBI arrested her and charged her with espionage and violation of censorship laws. She became the first American woman to face the death penalty on charges of spying for a wartime enemy. Eventually the espionage charge was dropped, and she was sentenced to 10 years at Alderson Correctional Facility and a $10,000 fine. Four years into her stay at Alderson, Eunice Kennedy took a special interest in Velvalee and helped her find employment once she left Alderson. Later, Velvalee would become Eunice’s private secretary.

Velvalee Dickinson reached out to Eunice one last time when she was in her 70s, asking for her assistance in getting a job at the New York World’s Fair. She eventually disappeared, having lived her life after prison in anonymity.

Velvalee Dickinson: The “Doll Woman” Spy is a carefully researched glimpse into the “Doll Woman’s” life as a collector of dolls, and as the highest paid American woman who spied for the Imperial Japanese Government during World War II.
