In recent years, Washington D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood has steadily grown whiter and wealthier, resulting in tension between natives and transplants. This spring, it seemed to had reached a boiling point with the constant dog walkers allowing their pets to defecate on the sacred landmarks at Howard University and luxury apartment complex The Shay complaining about the Gogo music being played out of the Metro PCS store on the corner of Flordia Ave and 7th St.
From there, the #DontMuteDC movement was born, and rapper and activist Yaddiya created several peaceful rallies.
Tatyana Jenene sat down with Yaddiya to talk about the Long Live Gogo movement along with the now-infamous Moechella and more.
