    Horror Movie Survival Guide

Horror Movie Survival Guide is a weekly podcast where two long time chums (and unlikely gorehounds) watch and talk about horror films from a survival point of view. We ask the question – how can *we* end up as the final girl? Join Julia Marchese and Teri Gamble as we take a deep dive into everything from OG horror to newly released films (but preferably classics on VHS). We’ll talk about obscure details that no one else notices, spin off into alternate casting universes, crush on some foxy, dodgy fellows (and creepy uncles), and arm ourselves with the knowledge necessary to become The Final Girl!

    ZOMBIE - "Demented, Cruel, Evil"

We conclude our very special GORE round with ZOMBIE (1979)! This film begins like many of our favorite vampire lore stories - with a seemingly empty ship landing in a harbor...but what lurks onboard may be the end of humanity, but before that happens we get a jaunt to a tropical island to investigate the origins of our demise!

This film is filled with lots of guts, gore & a scientist with a gleam in his eye - goodness!

We hope this fresh episode fills you with joy!

Blood Feast - "Have you ever had an Egyptian Feast?"

Up next we discuss an early entry into the splatter pantheon BLOOD FEAST (1963). A suburban housewife wants to throw a lavish dinner party for her daughter. Inspired by her daughters studies in Egyptian history - she enlists the services of the deli man to cater her event as a surprise ...the most surprising thing is what's really on the menu!

This cult classic has inspired many films and an 80's punk rock remake BLOOD DINER 1987. We hope you enjoy this delectable fresh episode!

    MANIAC - "Pretty for Me"

Our GORE round kicks off with the cult classic MANIAC (1980). Another tale inspired by Ed Gein's terrible deeds, like Psycho & Texas Chainsaw Massacre before it - this iteration is set in the seedy world of the late 1970's- early 80's New York. A truly sumptuous treat - Joe Spinell gives a tour de force performance - coupled with Tom Savini's practical effects - making this one of the most memorable gorefest ever recorded in American cinema!

We hope you enjoy devouring this fresh episode!

    Midsommar - "Ignore the Bear"

We are finally covering one of our most requested films for our Folk Horror round at the perfect time of year - MIDSOMMAR (2019) by Ari Aster. This mediation on grief and the power of cultish group-think ignited the box office and became a huge hit for A24. A perfect pairing with our film last week THE WICKER MAN (1973) - as it continues the conversation about what is moral and how we cope with life & death as humans.

A visual feast - giving us full horror bathed in sunlight and the hope of a new cycle of life! We hope you enjoy this fresh episode as much you enjoy these bright days of midsummer!
