Show notes
The Longhorns experienced a successful week in various areas within the Texas athletic department, both in former student-athletes and future Longhorns, which included a group of Longhorns who witnessed their dreams become reality when they received the call to the pros in the 2020 NFL Draft. Texas wrapped up the three-day event with three former players selected within the seven rounds of the NFL Draft, while two others were quickly picked up as undrafted free agents upon the conclusion of this year's player draft.
Former safety Brandon Jones was the first Texas player taken on Day 2 when the Miami Dolphins drafted him in the third round with the No. 70 overall pick. Wide receiver Devin Duvernay shortly followed Jones later in the third round when he was selected at No. 92 overall to the Baltimore Ravens. Receiver Collin Johnson was the third and final Longhorn taken within the seven-round draft when he received the call from the Jacksonville Jaguars as the organization picked him in the fifth round at No. 165.
Though undrafted, former d-lineman Malcolm Roach and o-lineman Zach Shackelford were quickly swooped up as free agents. The New Orleans Saints added Roach as an undrafted free agent while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked up Shackelford upon completion of Saturday's rounds.
But football was not the only sport to receive good news over the last few days.
On this week's edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes look back on the Longhorns' success over the last week, while introducing a new segment to the show, Love it or Leave it, which covers a variety of Texas topics in the debut, including if a healthy Sam Ehlinger should automatically equal a Big 12 title appearance for Texas, who will take over the reins of the offense after Ehlinger wraps up his college career and much more.
The Flagship then welcomes in Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton for his thoughts on how the Longhorns fared in the 2020 NFL Draft, which players could have the brightest futures and the Longhorns with the highest draft upside in next year's 2021 NFL Draft.
Chip and Taylor close the show weighing in on both men's and women's basketball's recruiting success as of late after Texas men's basketball coach Shaka Smart added a major weapon to next year's roster with the commitment of five-star power forward Greg Brown III, while newly-hired women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer also added to his hoops' roster with the comments from two Top 20 players in the 2021 class: Rori Harmon and Aaliyah Moore.
The Flagship Podcast — featuring co-hosts Chip Brown and Taylor Estes with Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton as a frequent contributor — hits the airwaves each Wednesday, and centers around all the latest happenings surrounding the University of Texas and college athletics, with big-name guests joining the show on a weekly basis.
