Longhorn Blitz: Is this the lowest point in the history of the Texas program? Nov 17, 2021
    Show notes

Rod Babers, Matt Butler and Jeff Howe are back to discuss what might very well be the lowest point in the history of the Texas program. A 57-56 overtime loss to a one-win Kansas team snapped the Jayhawks' 13-year conference road losing streak and extended the Longhorns' losing streak to five games (the program's longest since 1956) as mid-season talk of a possible rematch with Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game has given way to the idea of a total rebuild on the Forty Acres.

You can get the latest Longhorn news and analysis at Horns247. The Horn, Austin's home for University of Texas athletics, airs Longhorn Blitz Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and is where Rod (3-7 p.m.) and Jeff (10 a.m.-12 p.m.) can be heard on the air daily.

The Flagship: How Bijan Robinson's season-ending injury impacts Texas' final two games Nov 15, 2021
    Show notes

The blows keep coming for the Longhorns. As if the five-game losing streak and a loss to former one-win Kansas wasn't tough enough, Texas will now play the final two games of the regular season schedule without two crucial members of the Longhorns' starting lineup.

The Flagship Podcast kicks off the week with a loaded show as Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes deliver the latest news surrounding the Longhorns, which starts with the season-ending injuries to sophomore RB Bijan Robinson and senior CB Josh Thompson. The Flagship weighs in on the injured starters impact on the Texas offense and defense and what that could mean for the Longhorns, who have to win the last two games of the season in order to become bowl eligible. Chip and Taylor also preview Saturday's road game against the Mountaineers with both teams still in the hunt for bowl eligibility and needing to win-out in order to see the post season. The Flagship shifts focus to some Texas basketball talk and what to make of the men's loss to No. 1 Gonzaga and women's upset over defending national champion Stanford over the weekend.

After a quick break, The Flagship returns with our 'Love it or leave it' segment, with this week's topics focused on how the Longhorns will finish the regular season without Robinson and Thompson, what to make of Casey Thompson and the quarterback position and the level of concern over the Longhorns being out-scored 44-22 in the paint against the Zags.

Catch all of that and much more on this loaded episode of The Flagship Podcast.

The Flagship: What to make of Texas' shocking loss to Kansas Nov 14, 2021
    Show notes

Texas football made history Saturday night inside DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, but it was not the type of history Longhorn fans will ever want to remember. The Longhorns were stunned by Kansas football in their home loss to the Jayhawks, which marked the first time in program history that Texas has lost to Kansas in Austin. On this week's game reaction episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247's Chip Brown and Taylor Estes don't hold back with their instant reactions to Texas' shocking 57-56 OT loss to Kansas. The hosts weigh in on some of the glaring issues inside the Texas locker room, what to make of this disappointing first season for Steve Sarkisian and Co., why jumping the gun and making staff changes in Year 1 could lead to continued struggles for the Longhorns down the road and much more.

Texas fans won't want to miss this unfiltered game reaction episode of The Flagship Podcast.

The Flagship Preview: What Texas could face in Kansas Nov 11, 2021
    Show notes

On this week's interview edition of The Flagship Podcast previewing the Longhorns’ home football game Saturday at 6:30 pm CT on ESPNU (and to talk some Jayhawks basketball), we talk to 247Sports national writer Kevin Flaherty.

Flaherty provides the skinny on how a 1-8 KU team under first-year coach Lance Liepold nearly shocked Oklahoma after leading the Sooners 10-0 at halftime and 17-7 deep into the third quarter.

Kansas junior quarterback Jason Bean (56 percent passer, 6 TDs, 6 INTs) is a 10-second 100 guy who has averaged 4.4 yards per carry and rushed for 100 yards once this season. But Bean left last week’s 35-10 loss against Kansas State with an injury and was replaced by sophomore Jalon Daniels (64 percent passer, 1 TD, 0 INTs), who is not as much of a threat to run.

Whether it’s Bean or Daniels against Texas, Flaherty breaks down the strengths and weaknesses of both QBs.

Flaherty explains why running back Devan Neal is probably KU’s best offensive playmaker.

On defense, Flaherty provides the players to watch while detailing how the Jayhawks seem to lack the playmaking presence at linebacker KU has had in recent years.

Flaherty also explains why KU probably isn’t in the same situation to take Texas to the wire like the Jayhawks did in Austin in 2019.

Finally, we get into some KU basketball and how the Longhorns under Chris Beard match up with Bill Self’s Jayhawks.

Jenkins also provides perspective on how professional opportunities could shake things up for the Texas class as well as his time covering the talented 2022 class in the state of Texas. Harris and Jenkins wrap up by discussing their expectations for Texas this season as Chris Beard looks to make a big first impression as the head coach in Austin.

Longhorn Blitz: Self-doubt, first-year adjustments and other issues facing Texas Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

Rod Babers, Matt Butler and Jeff Howe are back to discuss the fourth loss in a row in Steve Sarkisian's first season on the Forty Acres, a deflating 30-7 setback suffered at the hands of Iowa State. In a big-picture look at the program through nine games, it's not just one thing that's preventing the Longhorns from breaking through to becoming the team they've shown glimpses the can be.

The Flagship: Texas prepares for Kansas with key starters listed as day-to-day Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

The Longhorns will look to put the last four-game stretch of losses in the past this weekend when Texas hosts Kansas Saturday in Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium. But Steve Sarkisian's squad will be without at least one key starter on offense, while other player's status remain up in the air.

The Flagship Podcast gets the week started off with a loaded show as Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes deliver the latest news coming out of Texas starting with the breaking news story of the day after junior wide receiver Joshua Moore officially entered the transfer portal. The Flagship weighs in on how big of a loss this will be for the Longhorns as they continue to hunt for bowl eligibility and need to win at least two of the final three games of the year to reach the bowl season.

The Flagship also delivers the latest injury status on some banged up players who left last week's game at Iowa State, including RB Bijan Robinson, LB DeMarvion Overshown, RB Roschon Johnson and DL Alfred Collins, and where some of the positives are for the football program as they look to rebound after losing four-straight games over the last month.

After the loaded football segment to open the show, The Flagship shifts focus to the preseason No. 5 ranked Texas basketball program with the Longhorns first game of the season going down Tuesday against Houston Baptist. Chip and Taylor talk about some of the team-building tactics head coach Chris Beard brought to the Longhorns during the offseason and what to make of the excitement and hype surrounding the program in Year 1 of the Beard era.

After a quick break, The Flagship returns with our 'Love it or leave it' segment, with this week's topics focused on how detrimental the loss of Moore is to this year's football team, if TE Cade Brewer was right in saying Texas needs to get back to having fun and what to make of this Kansas team that nearly upset Oklahoma last month.

Catch all of that and much more on this loaded episode of The Flagship Podcast.

The Flagship: Texas QB controversy reignites after abysmal offense performance in loss to Iowa State Nov 07, 2021
    Show notes

The QB controversy has resurfaced in Austin, Texas. A stunningly poor performance by the Texas offense against Iowa State not only led to a 30-7 loss for the Longhorns, it also reignited the quarterback battle between Casey Thompson and Hudson Card.

On this week's game reaction edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes react to Texas being manhandled by Iowa State, which marked the fourth-straight loss on the year for the Longhorns. The Flagship weighs in on the resurfaced quarterback battle after Steve Sarkisian pulled Thompson in the first quarter and replaced him with Card, and what the head coach had to say about his decision to roll with Card even though the offense continued to struggle as the game wore on. Chip and Taylor also discuss Sarkisian's plans to reassess the starting role at quarterback moving forward, how reopening the QB battle could impact the Longhorns — a team still on the hunt for bowl eligibility — as they enter the final three-game stretch of the regular season, give the latest injury update on Bijan Robinson and much more!

Texas fans won't want to miss this loaded game reaction episode of The Flagship Podcast.
