She was one of the most loving animals that we were so lucky to have in our life and we are deeply saddened that we no longer have her here with us. Through the grief and loss of Mia, we decided to process this loss with an episode discussing pet loss, grief, and the afterlife of animals.
On today’s episode, we dive into the fascinating topic of the afterlife of animals and explore pet loss and grief with paranormal researcher and author, Nicole Strickland. Strickland is one of the leading West Coast afterlife & paranormal researchers. She’s the founder and director of the well-respected San Diego Paranormal Research Society and California Coordinator of the Ghost Research Society. His most recent book is The Alaskan Blonde: Sex, Secrets, and the Hollywood Story that Shocked America, a true crime book reexamining a scandalous 1953 murder that began in Alaska and ended in Hollywood, while his short story “Death Under the Stars” was included in the recent Sisters in Crime Los Angeles anthology Entertainment To Die For.

Ep. 106 A Haunting at the East West Players Theatre Los Angeles | Interview & Investigation

East West Players is an Asian American theatre organization in Los Angeles, founded in 1965. As the nation’s first professional Asian American theatre organization, East West Players continues to produce works and educational programs that give voice to the Asian-Pacific American experience today.
“East West Players’ current home is in the upper 3 levels of the Union Center for the Arts in the northwestern end of the Little Tokyo Historic District. The company had spent the previous 32 years since its founding in a 99-seat theatre in Silver Lake before moving to the new David Henry Hwang Theatre in the Union Center for the Arts in 1998. The Union Center for the Arts was formerly Union Church, the combined home of three Japanese American congregations, was completed in 1923. With the onset of World War II, it was in front of this building that residents of the district joined the residents of Terminal Island, whose community had been razed 48 hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Residents lined up with a single suitcase allowance awaiting transportation to join 10,000 people sent to the War Relocation Center in Manzanar in 1942. Most of those transported to the internment camps lost all of their property and were unable to return to living in their old community after the war, scattering the population throughout the city.
During the war, the building was used as a community center for African Americans arriving from the deep south in search of work in wartime industry as part of the ‘Great Migration’. The neighborhood had some of the only housing in the city that did not have restrictive housing covenants based on color, and quickly became highly populated. Three years into the war, the neighborhood was renamed Bronzeville, and was home to crowded conditions and ‘breakfast clubs’ – jazz clubs that were known to stay open until dawn. In 1943, a part of the ‘Zoot Suit Riots’ spread into the area. At the close of 1945 the Japanese Americans gradually began re-establishing a community center, where Little Tokyo remains a very diverse part of central Los Angeles.
The building located on Judge John Aiso Street was damaged during the 1994 Northridge earthquake, leaving it unusable. The Little Tokyo Service Center Community Development Corporation completed a multi-million dollar renovation of the building in 1998 to house three arts organizations – the East West Players, Visual Communications, and LA Artcore. ”

The cemetery was established as Sunset Cemetery in 1905 but had been used for burials since the 1880s. In 1926 the name was officially changed to Westwood Memorial Park and was later changed again to Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary.
Although it is the resting place of some of Hollywood’s greatest names, it also contains the graves of many uncelebrated people. Most of those famous names laid to rest within Westwood Memorial include Marilyn Monro, Jack Lemon, Natalie Wood, Hugh Hefner, Eva Gabor, Dorothy Stratten, Walter Matthau, Kirk Douglas, Dean Martin, Carolyn O’Connor, Eva Gabor, and Fanny Brice.

We love a good gothic ghost story! There’s one that comes to mind that manifested here in the state of California, The Legend of Sarah Winchester and the ghosts that built the Winchester mansion. According to legend, Sarah had an around-the-clock crew of craftsmen who were hired to construct her house that was designed by ghosts. The unique design of staircases leading to nowhere with twisted corridors and 160 rooms. This project was to be a lifelong project to appease the spirits of the people killed by the Winchester rifles. However, quite a few historians suggest a much more mundane explanation, such as our special guest Christiane Franke.
“Sarah Winchester was an intelligent woman and architect, but she was painted as a crazy old woman who lived alone…” explains Christi. “She took care of everyone, you wanted to work for her…”

For decades, the Original Spanish Kitchen served meals to Hollywood customers like Bob Hope, Linda Darnell, Mary Pickford, and John Barrymore. Opened in 1932 it was a sister restaurant to one downtown, owned by Johnny and Pearl Caretto. Their enchiladas were the talk of the town, attracting show-business personalities as regulars. Silverscreen legend, Mary Pickford, had her own booth, by the door, offering up not only autographs to fans, but also recipes to Johnny.
In 1961, the restaurant closed for vacation, however, it would be a permanent vacation. Following its closure, the building’s contents were left intact for years afterward, the tables remaining set with full table settings and linens. The restaurant’s sudden closure gave rise to urban legends that the owners, who lived in an apartment above the restaurant, were murdered by the mob. Another legend suggested a lovers quarrel. The truth was more prosaic, according to a 1986 article in Tables magazine by reporter Don Ray. He determined that the owner had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and the restaurant had been shuttered by his wife after she found that she was not up to the task of running it. Johnny passes away a few years after his diagnosis and Pearl eventually follows a few decades later. The property lays dormant until the Caretto family sells the property to a couple who turn the kitchen into Ona Spa & Prive Salon.
Soon after the salon and spa open, ghost stories began to circulate. Workers in Ona Spa, which was located on the second floor, would sense a presence within the space. Stylists would claim as though they were being watched, see an unusual shadow figure in the corner of their eye and hear phantom footsteps around the staircase area. One of the co-owners of the spa and salon would feel the temperature suddenly drop out of nowhere. Our guest Richie Dueñez, LA native and former manager of Prive Salon, sits down with us to confirm the strange activity during his time working within the once-popular salon and spa. Dueñez also shares his interesting discovery of an old Original Spanish Kitchen pan within the property along with his cultural and family connections of the once-famous kitchen.

Elliott Van Dusen has been obsessed with the paranormal since childhood. He is currently the Director of Paranormal Phenomena Research & Investigation, an organization dedicated to the collection, analysis, and distribution of all supernatural events in Canada. After 15 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, 8 of those years spent investigating violent crimes, Van Dusen left to focus his full efforts on investigating paranormal mysteries. He has authored two books: Evil in Exeter based on a true story and field investigation involving the terrifying haunting of a Rhode Island family; and Supernatural Encounters: True Paranormal Accounts from Law Enforcement.
Van Dusen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Saint Mary’s University, a Diploma in Parapsychology from the Stratford Career Institute, and a doctorate in Parapsychology from the American International University. He has completed additional parapsychological studies at the University of Edinburgh’s Koestler Parapsychology Unit, the Rhine Education Center, and is currently completing his Master of Arts Counselling Psychology degree through Yorkville University.
Because of his comprehensive knowledge and experience in the paranormal, he is called upon regularly by the media and has appeared on numerous television and radio programs including The Discovery Channel, CTV, Global, Bravo, CBC Radio, and been featured in national and regional newspapers such as The Globe and Mail, The Ottawa Citizen, The Chronicle Herald, and The Daily News.

THE OMAN HOUSE & TATE/MANSON MURDERS, 51ST ANNIVERSARY
The Oman House in Beverly Hills, as seen on Ghost Hunters, My Ghost Story, Paranormal Witness, Haunted History, Ghost Adventures, and other television shows. It is a private residence open that sometimes is open for tours.
18 years ago, David Oman moved to a new home just 150 feet from 10050 Cielo Drive, the house in Benedict Canyon where Sharon Tate and four other people were murdered by the Manson family on August 9, 1969.
The mansion where the murders took place had been torn down in 1994, though a different house was later built on site. Five years after the home was razed, Oman’s father purchased a nearby plot for $40,000, and together they built a house on it. During construction, workers would complain of unusual activity around the house such as voices, footsteps, and shadow figures when no one was around the property. After David moved into his new home, Oman woke from a deep sleep at 2 a.m. to find “a full-body apparition at the bottom of his bed pointing towards the driveway which leads to the murder site.” He tells me, “There was no sound. He gestured three times and then just disappeared.” Since then Oman has dedicated his time and efforts to record and document his experiences. He has even gone as far as opening his home to skeptics, thrill-seekers, paranormal teams, and investigators.

Peyton graduated from the Hollywood Acting school where Tammie works which is the historical site of Chaplin’s bungalows. She was also apart of the first class that moved into the dorms built on the campus grounds, however, they were the first class to experience a series of hauntings. Sightings of a little girl and a shadow man were commonly being seen, heard, and felt by many students. But, it seems that the entities have made themselves known mainly towards Peyton since she has the gift of sight. We will also learn in this episode that Peyton sees dead people.

Ep. 61 Haunted Disneyland Tour with Mitchell Ralston | Magic or Tragic Kingdom

Disneyland is supposed to the happiest place on earth, but it has been the most tragic to some since 1964. According to intouchweekly.com,
“In late July 1955, a Disneyland Railroad operator switched tracks before the back of the train had safely crossed into the station — a mistake that sent the last car of the Retlaw 2 train onto a separate set of tracks. The caboose swung to the side and collided with a concrete divider before derailing. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The worker fled the scene and never returned.,
After that, Disneyland had no major incidents for nearly a decade. The good streak ended in May 1964, when 15-year-old Mark Maples from Long Beach, CA, stood up and was thrown from the top of the Matterhorn Bobsleds. He landed on an adjacent ledge, fractured his ribs and skull, and died three days later.”
But it seems that the tragedy doesn’t stop there due to a series of deaths, derailments, drownings, fights, and suicides that have followed and made its way onto the park’s property throughout the decades. The paranormal aftermath, is it possible that the spectres the staff and park goers have witnessed may be linked to deaths on the park’s grounds? Or could they be connected to the remains of the loved ones that family members would disperse on certain rides? In today’s episode, we talk about the 1993 missing child and murder case that shook Woodland Hills.
On November 21, 1993, LAPD found Nicole Parker’s body in Hooman Askahcapana’s apartment, which is in the same Ventura Boulevard complex where the girl stayed with her father, about 11 p.m.
Askahcapana, 22, was booked on suspicion of murder and was found guilty in 1995 for the murder of Nicole Parker. Fast forward several decades later, new DNA and serology evidence surfaces to contradict those suspicions.
The Paranormal aftermath, Angela moves into the apartment complex where the Nicole Parker crime took place in 2017. Angela begins to experience unsettling energy that surrounds her apartment. In today’s episode we talk about a few of LA’s infamous sanitariums but there is one in particular that stands out from the rest, Rockhaven Sanitarium.
Founded and operated in 1923 by Agnes Richards, Rockhaven was one of a number of respiratory and mental sanitariums in the Crescenta Valley. Renowned for its healthful air quality and tranquil living, the area was indeed a haven. And Rockhaven in particular boasted a beautiful atmosphere, caring staff, an engaging calendar of events, a strong sense of community, and real healing.
The property is, overall, excellently preserved and a perfect candidate for restoration. A sprawling facility with intact artifacts and interior elements, beautiful architecture and endless aesthetic appeal, there is roof repair and some related interior damage to be dealt with in several buildings. There are wooden window frames and several building sidings that need repair or restoration…in some cases nothing more than sanding and paint.

When paranormal entities terrorize the living through endless and repetitive supernatural cycles, manifesting again and again in the same location, it is known as a “ghost loop.” Now, a team of highly specialized paranormal experts, who focus on this distinct type of haunting, are stepping in to help both the living and the dead. In Travel Channel’s new eight-episode series, “Ghost Loop,” the team will attempt to break cycles of trapped paranormal activity and restore peace by drawing out each spirit through re-created trigger environments.
In each hour-long episode, the “Ghost Loop” team of experts – paranormal investigator and medium Sean Austin, empath Kris Star, researcher, and tech advisor Chris Califf, design specialist Eric Vitale, and tech support Matt Lytle – first examine and research their client’s property and history and perform a preliminary paranormal investigation. Taking their facts and findings, they formulate a plan they believe will help stop the haunting. Whether it’s building a 1900s-era train compartment, replicating a tavern from the 1850s, or constructing a 19th-century baby’s nursery, the team uses each emotionally charged setting to draw out the entities during intense follow-up investigations. Hoping to engage the spirit, the group aims to release the energy and break the loop once and for all – bringing peace to everyone involved.
During the series premiere, Friday, Decmeber 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, the team heads to Houston where homeowner Becky is terrified by sounds of someone breaking into her home night after night – only to encounter an aggressive male entity that routinely attacks her. On their preliminary investigation, the group frighteningly gets “picked off” one by one: Kris gets sick, Matt is overwhelmed by a burning sensation on his body and Califf and Sean get into a conflict fueled by the angry spirit. Through their research, they discover that in 1921, a murder occurred in the home involving a young woman and her abusive boyfriend, whom she shot in self-defense. In order to stop the dangerous activity in Becky’s home, the team builds an environment that mimics the fateful night – and use Kris to elicit the spirit.

Before Cher, Lady Gaga, J Lo there was the biggest queen of them all! LIBERACE! Liberace was known for his extravagant lifestyle, glitzy costumes, candelabra, and extraordinary showmanship all made him famous as his piano playing.
He died of cytomegalovirus pneumonia as a result of AIDS on February 4, 1987. The showman had been diagnosed with Aids in August 1985 by a private physician in Las Vegas – a fact which was hidden from the public. He didn’t seek any medical treatment for his condition and his illness was a secret until the day he died. He was 67 when he passed away at home in Palm Springs, California. But it seems like Mr. Showmanship has been making his presence known all around Vegas.

Braken fern manor built in 1926 was originally known as “The Crib” while the Tudor House formerly known as “Club Arrowhead of the Pines” became a social hideaway for Hollywood’s elite. The Manor- This 10 room, 10 bathroom was said to have been used as a brothel during prohibition while The Tudor House was used to house illegal gambling, liquor, and other illegal pastimes. Infamous mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was said to have funded the construction and built the locations as a sanctuary of escape for Hollywood’s big wigs and Mob members.
Bracken Fern Manor is across the street from Tudor House in Lake Arrowhead.
Nestled in San Bernardino National Forest, surrounded by pine, cedar, and dogwood, at an altitude of 5100’, is Lake Arrowhead, CA, an area described as the “Alps of Southern California”
in 1826. At that time, about 40 Paiute Indians, a warlike tribe, used the mountains for their hunting grounds. They lived in the high desert area. Many were killed in a fight with the white men of Little Bear Valley.
At the same time, a more peaceful tribe of Indians, the Serranos, lived very near Little Bear Valley, in an area now known as Rock Camp, on the north side of the mountain. They would take their old and sick to Arrowhead Hot Springs for rejuvenation and healing. They hunted in the beautiful and bountiful valley and lived relatively peaceful, somewhat nomadic lives descending to the desert highlands and warmer inland valleys during the winter months.
Beneath the historic Arrowhead, sits the equally unique Arrowhead Springs. The Arrowhead Springs is a place deeply rooted in legend, with the most ancient one possibly being passed down from the Native Americans. The legend goes like this: The Great Spirit had an arrow, which was to guide the Native Americans to the spot where they were to make their home. The Great Spirit, having selected the place, fixed the arrow to mark it forever. It is believed that the native inhabitants of the San Bernardino Mountains through the Arrowhead directed the way to the hot springs with healing properties and therefore considered it holy ground.
Fast forward to the 1920s and prohibition. We touched on this subject in Ep. 30 on Famous Haunted Hollywood Bars. Police were cracking down on the mob in the city so the mob moved their operations in less discrete areas. One famous mobster who was rumored to lead this move was the notorious mobster, Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegal.
Rumor has it that Bugsy talked the Chicago Mob into backing his new venture, which is now known as Bracken Fern Manor. This Alpine-style inn opened as Club Arrowhead in The Pines on July 4th, 1926. The inn had state of the art amenities, such as electricity! More importantly, it catered to the rich and famous, offering gambling, illegal liquor and “working girls.” Other amenities included an Olympic size swimming pool, skiing, tennis courts, a bathhouse, and more. The brothel continued operations through World War II. Gambling was maintained in the speakeasy (across the street) up until 1955. Today, Bracken Fern Manor is a Certified Historic Landmark in the State of California.
Across from Bracken Fern Manor is where gambling took place at The CLUB. Now called “The Tutor House.” The story has it that when cops were on their way up the mountain from San Bernardino, and administrators were alerted, gambling tables were actually turned over, then appearing as regular tables.
Bracken Fern Manor claims to be haunted by a former “working girl” named Violet. She killed herself after the mob killed her lover. You can still smell her violet-scented perfume wafting through the halls. Another ghost of a little boy has also been seen at this historic inn. He is thought to be the son of a former prostitute and was trampled by a team of horses. Today his tiny footsteps are often seen in the snow…so it is told.
After the inn became successful, Bugsy convinced the Bosses in Chicago to front him the dough for another little gambling adventure…..Las Vegas. However, Bugsy’s lavish taste caused him to go way over his one million dollar budget and ultimately cost him his credibility with Chicago. And his life. While he was having dinner one evening with his lover, Virginia Hill, at her Hollywood home, Bugsy was shot dead.

EP. 32 The Chino Hills Massacre | The True Crime & Paranormal Aftermath of the Ryen Family | Kevin Cooper

On June 5, 1983, William Hughes peered through a sliding glass door into the master bedroom of the Ryen family’s house in Chino Hills. He spotted the bloodied body of his 11-year-old son Christopher, who had spent the night with the family. Nearby were Peggy and Doug Ryen, hacked and slashed to death. Eight-year-old Joshua Ryen lay on the floor, his throat slit, but alive. Out of sight in the hall was Jessica Ryen, 10, no longer breathing.

Two days before the killings, Kevin Cooper had escaped from a prison in Chino Hills, where he was serving a sentence fro burglary. Police found evidence – cigarette butts, a button from a prison uniform, a leather hatchet sheath – that Copper had spent two days in a house near the Ryen’s property after his espcape from CIM.
He was arrested about seven weeks after the killings. At the trial, jurors heard the lone survivor give a videotaped statement that conflicted with what he had said when he was first interviewed with hospital staff and San Bernadino detectives. Josh Ryen mentioned in his first statements that he saw 3 white or hispanic individuals in the house the night of the murders. More statements and evidence were later turned into authorities -that would later not be used in Kevin Cooper’s trials to support his case.

There’s a house that sits on Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon that has an array of paranormal activity. It’s best known as The David Oman House and its located just 200 ft from where the Sharon Tate and Manson Murders took place in 1969.
In 2014 David Oman produced and co-wrote a movie documentary about the paranormal activity that has been going on in his house. It’s called The House at The End of the Drive. Since producing this film, Oman feels that the spirits have really reached out to him. One of those spirits is the ghost of Sharon Tate.

One month before the release of Rebel Without a Cause, James Dean, was killed in a head-on collision while driving his Porsche 550 Spyder, the same vehicle he drove while shooting Rebel. It was Dean’s premature death that cast a shadow over the film but it was the incredibly emotional and volatile behavior that occurred on set and the horrific death of the lead actor that many have blamed for the curse that followed.
Co-Stars Sal Mineo, Nick Adams and Natalie Wood also suffered horrific and premature deaths, Sal being stabbed to death outside his apartment, Nick Adams’ mysterious suicide and Natalie drowning accidentally after falling off her yacht.

The film is about Roslyn (played by Marilyn Monroe), a newly-divorced showgirl living in Reno , becomes romantically involved with Gay a ruggedly independent cowboy played by Gable. Together they move into Gay’s isolated ranch house in the desert but their relationship is soon complicated by Gay’s business venture with two partners, Guido, a part-time auto mechanic, and Perce, a down-on-his-luck rodeo performer played by Clift. The three men plan to round up and capture a group of wild mustangs AKA MISFITS to sell to a dog food manufacturer. Roslyn’s opposition to their plan, however, creates a tension within the group that has an unpredictable effect.

History leaves a permanent mark and that mark is a mansion in a little are around los angeles called Los Feliz. The mansion remained frozen in time since December 6, 1959. During that dark night in December, Dr. Harold Perelson murdered his wife and attempted to murder his children in a frenzied hammer attack. He then later killed himself after realizing what he had done.
Fifty years later, the mansion was left as a time warp with the Perelson’s furniture, mail, clothing and even a christmas tree with wrapped presents that remain there as a reminder of the mansions violent past. Soon visitors started reporting paranormal activity which led to the abandoned mansion to be the focus of an Internet obsession. What mysteries lie within the mansion? Life is lived large in Los Angeles, ever since the orange groves of an arid hamlet called Hollywood gave way to the dream factories. In the early 20th Century, the actors and musicians who gravitated there wasted no time in taking their places. One of those actors was Charly Chaplin, bldg his first studio in the heart of the residential section of Hollywood at La Brea Avenue and naming it The Chalie Chaplin Studios.
Across from those studios is where Brice and I work, an acting academy. Ever since the school moved to that location there were strange stories of a man in a hat roaming on the grounds after hours and around the theater. Later, a dormitory had taken over an old apartment complex next door to house new students. However, more unusual stories were circulating around campus of a little girl roaming the halls of the second floor of the dorm and sighting of a shadow man roaming around the building. Who is the little girl roaming the 2nd floor of the dorms and who is this shadow man? Is it Charlie Chaplin or something a little more sinister. Stay tuned!

Drive around Hollywood neighborhoods and you can see buildings and structures that have been around since the development of the city. The art deco structure and their unique designs can almost tell stories of the golden era.
Many of these structure were owned by major production companies, MGM, RKO, Warner, Paramount and 20th century Fox. Their purpose was to house fresh and new actors/actresses during their transition period in Hollywood.
Within time these structures have seen many deaths, suicides and strange occurrences. Eventually they were passed down to different owners and were bought by other companies to turn them into public apartments. However, there is that saying, “if these walls can talk…” in a lot of these dwelling, they literally do. Press your ear against the wall, and you might hear something. Can it an old famous Hollywood resident that is trying to communicate with you from beyond the grave? Or could it be something else? We also talk about sipping mimosas with Mae West’s ghost, LA rent and one famous Hollywood Hotel/Apartments that was the inspiration of Disney’s Hollywood Tower of Terror Ride. The mansion where the murders took place had been torn down in 1994, though a different house was later built on site. Five years after the home was razed, Oman’s father purchased a nearby plot for $40,000, and together they built a house on it. During construction, workers would complain of unusual activity around the house such as voices, footsteps, and shadow figures when no one was around the property. After David moved into his new home, Oman woke from a deep sleep at 2 a.m. to find “a full-body apparition at the bottom of his bed pointing towards the driveway which leads to the murder site.” He tells me, “There was no sound. He gestured three times and then just disappeared.” Since then Oman has dedicated his time and efforts to record and document his experiences. He has even gone as far as opening his home to skeptics, thrill-seekers, paranormal teams, and investigators.
