EDI Mean talks growing up with 2Pac, The Outlawz, Death Row Records, J Prince and Rap A Lot Records and new Documentary. Dec 24, 2022
    Show notes

The incredible Malcolm Greenidge is best known in the music world as E.D.I. Mean, aka EDIDON, the Hip Hop artist, and entrepreneur famous for being an original member of the Outlawz with the legendary Tupac Shakur. He worked on the 2016 Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me as an Executive Consultant and Music Supervisor.Raised in New York, Greenidge became friends with Tupac Shakur’s cousin Katari “Kastro” Cox at High School, and along with Tupac’s godbrother Yafeu “Kadafi” Fula formed a rap trio under the names Thoro Headz and Young Thugs, with Greenidge initially rapping under the name Big Malcom.
By this time Tupac had become a huge rap star and he let the trio guest appear on his 1993 single Holla If Ya Hear Me. The following year Mutah “Napoleon” Beale joined the trio and they renamed themselves Dramacydal, going on to guest appear on Tupac’s next record, his 1995 album Me Against the World. After Tupac’s release from prison they all banded together to form the group Outlaw Immortalz, later changed to Outlawz, and it was here that Greenidge became known as E.D.I. Mean. After Tupac was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996, E.D.I. Mean and the rest of the Outlawz moved back to the East Coast.
Then following Kadafi’s murder, the group returned to California and signed a deal with Death Row Records. The Outlawz released their debut album, Still I Rise, in 1999. Their second and third albums, 2000’s Ride Wit Us Or Collide Wit Us, and 2001’s Novakane, were released on their own label Outlawz Records. E.D.I. Mean continued to record and produce and collaborate with fellow Hip Hop artists, and also pursued his solo career, releasing his debut album, The Stash Spot, in 2010. His latest solo album, O.G. Part 2: Classics in Session, came out in 2020, and the single One Nation (featuring Xzibit), was released in 2021.
E.D.I. Mean regularly connects with his legions of followers and fans through Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, posting pictures and videos about his life around music. He is also available for that personalised shout-out via the Cameo platform, and has a dedicated YouTube channel, E.D.I Mean.

Bigg Jah talks creating Balvin Bunningham,Tiberius, LA Comedy Politics, being a successful content creator, and working with Tyler Perry. Dec 24, 2022
    Show notes

Jahdai Pickett promises exactly one thing when you tune in to his YouTube content: “hood good comedy.”Better known by his channel name Bigg Jah, the Los Angeles-based actor, writer, director, and comedian (and YouTuber, of course) has been turning his stand-up skills into millions-viewed sketches since 2017.
Like many comedians, Pickett gets his gold material by sourcing stories from real life and embellishing for entertainment as needed. His individual videos tend to clock in between five and ten minutes, and while each tells a complete story, he’s grown his dedicated audience by turning fan-favorite sketches into series.Arguably the top fare on his channel is The Lesbian Homie, a recently concluded ten-episode series that chronicles a fictional Pickett’s comical suffering when, for the first time, he sees his one-of-the-bros lesbian friend glammed up to go out. Collectively, it’s racked up nearly 40 million views.Latter episodes of the series feature Pickett’s clever brand-building in the form of merch from his Hood Good Store, which offers T-shirts, hoodies, headwear, and more emblazoned with slogans from his videos that became popular with fans–like the “got yams?” shirt referencing aforementioned lesbian friend’s bodacious posterior. With Lesbian Homie wrapped and one million subscribers in the bag, Pickett is looking at a future with content that’s less Quibi, more Netflix. His fans have been asking for longer videos since the beginning, he says, and he plans to deliver.

Mob James talks childhood, growing up with Suge Knight and Reggie Wright Jr, Bountry, FG, Alex Alonso, Death Row Records, and redemption. Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

In the early ’90s, Death Row Records had a roster that could compete with any label’s top talent, and CEO Suge Knight earned a reputation as one of the most feared men in the industry. James McDonald, then known as Mob James, was the instrument of Knight’s intimidation. McDonald served as Death Row’s muscle and Suge’s go-to-guy for years.
Knight and McDonald used “any means necessary” to get their point across to the label’s opponents. That was then and this is now. McDonald wields a starkly different kind of influence today. Through his podcast, “The Gangster Chronicles,” he draws on his experience and wisdom to steer vulnerable young men away from gangs and street life. Knowing how deeply he was affected by the absence of his biological father, McDonald strives to be a positive male role model in the lives of young men; he feels that if he can just help one individual, then his efforts have not been in vain. The podcast has a bright future: It was picked up by the Black Effect Podcast Network, a joint venture of Charlamagne Tha God and iHeartMedia to amplify black voices.
