Malcolm X and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Interview - 1964 Jun 14, 2021
    Show notes

S03-E10 We feature an interview with Malcolm X and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This event occurred on March 27, 1964. The press interviews Malcolm X and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. amidst a Senatorial debate about the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Malcolm, calling the bill 'political chicanery,' wonders whether liberals are truly for Civil Rights legislation or not. Dr. King discusses possible direct action for making sure the bill is not filibustered. He expresses his intent to test the bill if and when it is passed. He also feels that the failure to pass the bill could lead to social disruption. The Civil Rights Act was signed into law on July 2, 1964.

In addition to this audio episode, I also provide several PDF documents: first, an overview of the Civil Rights Bill of 1964, and then a pair of biographies of the two leaders.

Let us now tune our radio dial to 1964 and listen to Malcolm X and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as they discuss civil rights issues.

(Bonus) UFOs in Fiction May 26, 2021
    Show notes

(Bonus PDF) Many works of fiction have featured UFOs. In most cases, as the fictional story progresses, the Earth is being invaded by hostile alien forces from outer space, usually from Mars, as depicted in early science fiction, or the people are being destroyed by alien forces, as depicted in the film Independence Day. Some fictional UFO encounters may be based on real UFO reports, such as Night Skies. Night Skies is based on the 1997 Phoenix UFO Incident.

UFOs appear in many forms of fiction other than film, such as video games in the Destroy All Humans! or the X-COM series and Halo series and print, The War of the Worlds or Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu. Typically a small group of people or the military (which one depending on where the film was made), will fight off the invasion, however the monster Godzilla has fought against many UFOs.

(Bonus) Life of UFO Sightings May 26, 2021

(Bonus PDF) This is a partial list by date of sightings of alleged unidentified flying objects (UFOs), including reports of close encounters and abductions.

(Bonus) Overview of UFOs May 26, 2021
    Show notes

(Bonus PDF) An unidentified flying object (UFO) is any aerial phenomenon that cannot immediately be identified or explained. Most UFOs are identified or investigated as conventional objects or phenomena. The term is widely used for claimed observations of extraterrestrial spacecraft and was coined as an anacronym by Project Blue Book project head Edward J. Ruppelt. Another widely used term for the phenomenon is "flying saucer."

Studies and investigations have been conducted by various governments worldwide, along with private individuals and organizations. In the United States, studies began in the late 1940s and have included Project Grudge, Project Sign, and Project Blue Book. The latter was ended in 1969-70 after the Condon Committee officially concluded that the subject failed to merit further study. However, an unpublicized study named the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program was funded by the U.S. government from 2007-2012, and a successor program named the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force is currently operational.

Unidentified lights and flying objects have been reported in the skies for much of human history. Skeptics including various scientists, and organizations such as the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, state that the entire topic can be explained as conventional objects or phenomena, while Ufologists suggest various unproven theories. Public polling indicates a considerable portion of the U.S. population feels that their government is withholding information on the subject.

The topic of UFOs has been, and is currently, popular in worldwide culture in fictional movies, television, and other media. UFO reports are also the subject of continuing debate and news reporting.

(Bonus) Edward R Murrow Biography May 26, 2021
    Show notes

(Bonus PDF) Edward Roscoe Murrow (April 25, 1908 – April 27, 1965), was an American broadcast journalist and war correspondent. He first gained prominence during World War II with a series of live radio broadcasts from Europe for the news division of CBS. During the war, he recruited and worked closely with a team of war correspondents who came to be known as the Murrow Boys. A pioneer of radio and television news broadcasting, Murrow produced a series of reports on his television program See It Now which helped lead to the censure of Senator Joseph McCarthy. Fellow journalists Eric Sevareid, Ed Bliss, Bill Downs, Dan Rather, and Alexander Kendrick consider Murrow one of journalism's greatest figures, noting his honesty and integrity in delivering the news.

    Edward R Murrow - UFO News Report - 1950 May 26, 2021
    Show notes

S03-E09 We feature Edward R Murrow, the well-respected newspaper and radio reporter from the 1940s and 1950s and his newscast on flying saucers in 1950. Currently, the government and the military are releasing more information about sightings of UFOs. A big release is planned this summer by the military. I thought it timely to look back in history to see how such UFOs were covered by the traditional news media. Edward R Murrow is considered by many as the finest journalist of his or any generation. He covered World War Two from London and even flew on some dangerous bombing missions over Germany during the war. I thought you would like to listen to this trained journalist make early reports about UFOs.

In addition to this audio episode, I also provide several PDF documents: first, a biography of his life, second, an overview on UFOs, third, a list of UFO sightings, and fourth, a record of UFOs in popular fiction.

Let us now tune our radio dial to 1950 and listen to Mr. Murrow share about UFO sightings.

(Bonus) Waco Brand Davidians Siege - 1993 Apr 27, 2021
    Show notes

(Bonus PDF) The Waco siege, also known as the Waco massacre, was the law enforcement siege of the compound that belonged to the religious sect Branch Davidians. It was carried out by the U.S. federal government, Texas state law enforcement, and the U.S. military, between February 28 and April 19, 1993. The Branch Davidians were led by David Koresh and were headquartered at Mount Carmel Center ranch in the community of Axtell, Texas, 13 miles (21 kilometers) northeast of Waco. Suspecting the group of stockpiling illegal weapons, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) obtained a search warrant for the compound and arrest warrants for Koresh, as well as a select few of the group's members.
