    Matthew 6:25

    I. THE CAUSE OF OUR ANXIETY: The cause of our anxiety is treasuring that which we cannot retain.

    Three Diagnostic Tests:

    1. Examine what you love Matthew 6:19-21

    2. Examine what you desire Matthew 6:22-23

    3. Examine what you worship Matthew 6:24

II. THE CURE FOR OUR ANXIETY: The cure for our anxiety is valuing that which we cannot lose.

    Three-Pronged Cure:

    1. Observe His providence (in creation) Matthew 6:26a, Matthew 6:28b-29

    2. Consider your position- Matthew 6:26b. Matthew 6:30, Matthew 6:32

    3. Reorient your devotion- Matthew 6:33-34, Matthew 6:20, Colossians 3:1-4

Good Trouble: A Soft Voice for a Fearful Heart Nov 07, 2022
    Show notes

    I Kings 18:45-46

James 5:17 Elijah was a man just like us
    I Kings 19:1-2, I Kings 19:3, I Kings 19:4
CLOSENESS TO GOD YESTERDAY DOES NOT TRANSLATE TO CLOSENESS TO GOD TODAY.

Ps 143:8 His Word comes to us in the new day Ps 30:5 Joy comes to us in the new day

Lam 3:23 Mercies come to in the new day Is 50:4 His voice comes to us in the new day

Is 33:2 Rescue comes to us in the new day

REMEMBER THE GOODNESS OF GOD YESTERDAY SO THAT YOU CAN REST IN HIS GOODNESS TODAY!

I Kings 19:5-8, I Kings 19:9-13 NOTHING CALMS A WILDLY FEARFUL HEART LIKE A TENDERLY QUIET VOICE

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those of us who seek You. Psalm 9:9-10

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not burn you. For I am the LORD, your God. Isaiah 43:1-3

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

I KINGS 18:16-18 YOU BRING DIFFICULTY ON YOURSELF AND OTHERS WHEN YOU ABANDON GOD’S WAYS.

    I KINGS 18:19-25

Elijah says “you go first” I KINGS 18:26-29

Elijah’s turn: He soaked his offering in water, filled the trench around it 12 jars – no tricks here, no smoke and mirrors. Prophet steps forward and prays, Short prayer…God’s not impressed by eloquence. I KINGS 18:36-37

    Then, I KINGS 18:38-40

    1. THIS WAS A VICTORY THAT GOD’S PEOPLE NEEDED TO SEE. Vs 19-21, 30-32 It was an opportunity for all of God’s people to see what God can do.

    2. IDOLS ALWAYS TAKE MORE THAN THEY GIVE. leading to limping and blood itself…our very lives. Vs 26-29

    3. THE VICTORY WAS NOT ELIJAH’S, BUT GOD’S.. V37-40. It was God wanting to turn their hearts back and return to the Lord. THIS IS A STORY OF WHAT GOD WILL DO TO WIN BACK HIS PEOPLE!

Good Trouble: Obedience Is the First Step Oct 24, 2022
    Show notes

Let me catch you up. I KINGS 17.

    - Elijah appears on the scene out of nowhere V17:1

    - God, in 2-7, comes to Elijah and tells him to go live by the brook Kerith,

    - Right as the creek is dried upthe word of the Lord comes to Elijah, and moves him to Zarephath 8-16.

    - The widow’s son dies, and Elijah brings him back to life, 17-24

I KINGS 18:1-4 GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF HIS PEOPLE, THROUGH ALL SORTS OF MEANS.

I KINGS 18:5-14 OBEDIENCE YESTERDAY DOESN’T FREE YOU FOR DISOBEDIENCE TODAY.

I KINGS 18:14-16 OBEY ON THE FIRST STEP OR YOU’LL ALWAYS WORRY ABOUT THE SECOND ONE.

3 things here that you can apply to your life this week.

➊ Fight for Faithfulness. Obadiah had everything to lose and nothing to gain (as compared to the widow had nothing to lose and everything to gain). God’s will for you is not your safety nor comfort, it’s your faithfulness to Him no matter the cost or outcome.

➋ Prepare for temptation. There is always temptation to walk the fine line between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of this world.

➌ Live Boldly Obadiah eventually came to a place where he said yes Lord!

Spurgeon: In the center of rebellion against God there was one whose devotion to God was intense. As it is horrible to find a Judas among the apostles, so it is grand to discover an Obadiah among Ahab's royal court. What grace must have been at work to maintain such a fire in the midst of the sea, such godliness in the midst of vile iniquity!

    Who Is God? - Ryan Oakes | October 16, 2022 Oct 17, 2022
    Show notes

When we submit to the Truth of Scripture and see God as He is meant to be seen, our lives will be
    forever changed.

    Isaiah 43:1-2

    Who is God?
-God is our Creator (v. 1a)
    Genesis 1:26-27
Knowing our value in relation to God as our Creator is one of the most valuable sources of identity we can ever find.
-God is our Redeemer (v. 1b)
God’s ownership as our Redeemer is both personal and certain.
    Romans 5:8-10

In any circumstance, we can be encouraged that God would not have created and redeemed us unless He intends to finish His work in us.

Who Sits Upon the Throne? - Drew Humphrey Oct 10, 2022
    Show notes

    Zechariah 8

    Two important questions:
    1. Who is God?
    2. What do I think about Him?

“What comes to mind about God is the most important thing about us.” -A.W. Tozer

    WHO SITS UPON THE THRONE?

    1. A KING WHO LOVES UNCONDITIONALLY (v1-2)

    - God is consumed with passionate love for you and me.

    2. OUR SELFLESS RESCUER (v3-8, 13)
    -
    A future rescue to come.
-A present rescue for us now.
-Our world doesn’t need something new to come along and save it. It needs something old.

    3. A FATHER TO ALL NATIONS (v18-23)
    -
God turned our FASTS, into FESTIVALS, and then into a FIRE for the nations (Acts 2)
-The mission then was: THEY WILL COME (Zechariah 8 — “determined to come”)
-The mission now is: GO TO THEM (New Testament — commissioned to “go”)

Good Trouble: God's Sovereign Plans Oct 03, 2022
    Show notes

    I Kings 17:1

James 5:17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

GOD USES INSIGNIFICANT PEOPLE IN UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES FOR HIS ETERNAL PURPOSES.

FOLLOWING GOD PUTS US IN OPPOSITION TO THE CULTURE WHICH IS RISKY FOR COMFORT.

VS17:2-7 GOD’S PLANS DO NOT CONFORM TO OUR LOGIC.

    V8-9

    V9-16

GOD HAD HIS PROVIDING EYE ON ELIJAH THE ENTIRE TIME

    ELIJAH DIDN’T RESIST THE PROCESS

ELIJAH KNEW THE GOD HE SERVED WAS BIGGER THAN THE SITUATION HE FACED

    ELIJAH’S OBEDIENCE SAVED OTHERS.

GOD’S PROVISIONS ARE EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED, NOT ALWAYS WHAT WE WANT.
