    309: Defining Success and Failure with Dr. Artur Poczwardowski, Professor at University of Denver and Consultant to the U.S. Paralympic Team Feb 07, 2020

    Dr. Poczwardowski is an associate professor at University of Denver Graduate School of Professional Psychology and a Consultant with Sport and Performance Excellence Consultants (SPEX). He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and is listed in United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry.

    Since 1991, Dr. Poczwardowski has consulted with athletes and teams from numerous sports such as tennis, golf, hockey, judo, squash, baseball, team handball, soccer, track and field, diving, rowing, air pistol shooting, alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure skating, and speed skating. At the elite level, he worked with the Polish national men's and women's judo teams (1991 & 1992 European Championships, 1992 World Championships, and 1992 Olympic Games), St. Lawrence University Division I women's hockey team (2001 and 2004 Frozen Four), and tennis players from Academia Sanchez-Casal (Naples, Florida).

    He has 38 publications and has delivered over 60 professional presentations at the national and international level and over 30 invited lectures and workshops in the United States, Canada, Greece, Denmark, and Poland. His publications and professional presentations focus on sport psychology practice for performance enhancement and psychological well-being, coach-athlete relationships, and coping strategies in elite performers. In 2006 he was nominated for the President of Association of Applied Sport Psychology, which has membership from about 30 countries.

    Artur received his Ph.D. in exercise and sport science with specialization in psychosocial aspects of sport from University of Utah, Salt Lake City.

    Carrie Cheadle lives just north of San Francisco, California and has been working on the performance of teams, organizations, and individual athletes and exercisers since 2002. She is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and author of the book On Top of Your Game: Mental Skills to Maximize Your Athletic Performance and co-author of Rebound: Train Your Mind to Bounce Back Stronger from Sports Injuries as well as the co-host of the podcast The Injured Athletes Club.

    She has been interviewed as an expert resource for articles that have appeared in publications such as Outside Magazine, Shape Magazine, Men's Fitness, Women's Health, Runner's World, Women's Running Magazine, Bicycling Magazine, New York Times, and HuffingtonPost. She is a sought-after speaker and has spoken and consulted with many collegiate teams, cycling teams, and triathlon teams, as well as corporate organizations including CamelBak. She's also been featured in the TrainingPeaks blog and webinar series as an expert in Mental Skills Training.

    She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at Sonoma State University and her Master of Arts degree in sport psychology at John F. Kennedy University.

    Carrie is engaging, energetic, and fun. She has a great sense of humor and employs a real-life approach to working on the mental aspects of sport and performance with her clients. Carrie has her own personal commitment to lifelong fitness and when she isn't working you might find her hiking a trail, playing guitar, or hitting the slopes on her snowboard.

    304: The Importance of Understanding The Human Experience with Oscar Gutierrez, CMPC, Mental Performance Coach at the Cleveland Indians Jan 20, 2020

    The Colombia native is a Mental Performance Coach at the Cleveland Indians where he assists players, coaches and other staff members. His focus is on the development and integration of programs and services that enhance performance and mental and emotional growth. Additionally, Oscar's responsibilities include the design and implementation of systems that facilitate the acculturation process of Spanish speaking players.

    Gutierrez's practice in sport and performance psychology has included athletes and teams in soccer, tennis, swimming, diving, basketball, bowling, slalom, bowling, baseball, and other sports. He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Oscar is a 2008 graduate of Florida Atlantic University, received a Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling from Florida State University in 2012, and completed his doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Florida State University.

    302: Thinking Your Way to More Confidence with Dr. Stephany Coakley, Senior Associate Athletic Director Jan 13, 2020

    Since December 2017, Dr. Stephany C. Coakley has served as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Mental Health at Temple University. In this role, she is responsible for ensuring that student-athletes, from 19 teams, have access to mental wellness services that they need.

    An experienced and certified mental performance consultant (CMPC), she is also the founder/director of Maximum Mental Training Associates (MMTA) LLC, a performance psychology consulting business. She is dedicated to helping athletes, youth to professional, master the fundamentals of mental preparation for training and competition.

    Dr. Coakley has worked with the Superbowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles (2015 – 2017) as the clinician and Rookie Success Program facilitator; as Group Doctor, for the NBA Pre-Draft Combine. For 10 years, she worked as a Master Resilience Trainer – Performance Expert with the United States Army.

    Dr. Coakley earned both her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Temple University. She received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Sport and Exercise Science with a concentration in Sport Psychology from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina.
