    Show notes

Welcome to two-a-days, where Jacob Hester and I get you ready for the season ahead, one position at a time.

    Kind of.

Today's episode is the first part of a two-parter, and it focuses only on LSU's quarterback room, which Hester says is the program's best since he was on the team with JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, and Ryan Perriloux.

We break down Myles Brennan, Max Johnson, and Garrett Nussmeier, what each guy brings to the table, and what your take on the quarterback debate says about you.

Next week, we go to Twitter Spaces and your questions to talk about running backs and receivers.

Blake Baker, LSU Linebackers Coach Jun 09, 2021
    Show notes

Blake Baker is all in at LSU.

It doesn't hurt that his wife is a former Tiger soccer standout from Mandeville. It doesn't hurt that he played four years of college football in New Orleans, either.

But mostly, Baker's bought into the vision Ed Orgeron has for the program, Daronte Jones has for the defense, and he has for the Tigers' linebackers. He talks about giving that position group a fresh start, playing to each players' strengths, memories of Mandeville, and more on today's episode.

Andre Carter: LSU's Defensive Line Coach and Renaissance Man Jun 02, 2021
    Show notes

There's more to Andre Carter than meets the eye.

And plenty meets the eye. He's not all that far removed from an NFL career in which he registered 80.5 career sacks, and just by looking at him, you'd like his chances to suit up on Sundays this fall and get a sack or two off the edge.

But Carter matches physical prowess with mental acuity. He's sharp, energetic, and curious – a language-learning pianist who studied Taekwondo in childhood and listens to stand-up comedy on long road trips.

At his core, though, he's all football, which is why he chose coaching over retirement. He loves the game, and he loves the players.

We talk the Tigers' deep defensive line, his coaching philosophy, his many interests outside of football, and more.

Defensive coordinator Daronte Jones on Scheme, Spring, Travel, Bourbon, Books, and More May 27, 2021
    Show notes

Daronte Jones has been everywhere, man.

Paris. Amsterdam. Milan. London. The list of destinations visited by LSU's well-traveled defensive coordinator is endless. But now, he's in Baton Rouge, looking to build a defense that can bring the Tigers back to championship heights.

On today's episode of Hey Fightin' Podcast, Jones talks about his journey around the world and back to Louisiana, touching on scheme, spring takeaways, bourbon, books, and, of course, travel.

Kary Vincent Jr + Zach Von Rosenberg: The Fastest and Slowest Roads to the Pros Apr 21, 2021
    Show notes

Another two-parter, with the fastest man in the #NFLSU Draft class...and Zach Von Rosenberg.

Kary Vincent Jr. was born a sprinter. Speed is his trademark, whether he's on the football field or the track. But during his journey from LSU to the NFL, KJV has proved he's a fighter, too. On today's Hey Fightin' Podcast, Vincent Jr. talks the heights -- winning the 2019 national championship -- as well as the depths -- losing his father just before the 2019 Fiesta Bowl -- of his time in Baton Rouge. He also discusses the difficulty of stepping away from football for a year, what he learned through the opt-out process, and how hungry he is to get back on the field.

    Watch Kary's interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH8opUpQD5M

Zach Von Rosenberg knows the road to the pros better than anyone else in this year's #NFLSU draft class. That's because he's traveled it before. The former MLB Draft pick is now going through the process again, this time for the NFL. He reflects on the similarities, the differences, his favorite moments as a Tiger, and how long he can kick at the next level.

Jabril Cox and Tyler Shelvin: Road to the Pros Apr 15, 2021
    Show notes

    A special two-interview episode.

To watch on YouTube, click here.

Part 1: Jabril Cox has nothing left to prove. In three seasons at the FCS level with North Dakota State, he was a three-time national champion, a First-Team All-American, and an unstoppable force on defense. In his lone season at LSU, his talent spoke for itself, whether he was stuffing running backs, covering tight ends, or picking off quarterbacks. Cox joined Hey Fightin' Podcast to talk about his journey from frigid Fargo to balmy Baton Rouge and on to the NFL.

Part 2: Tyler Shelvin anchored LSU's defensive line in its run to the 2019 national championship. After opting out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19, Shelvin is captivating the imaginations of NFL Draft scouts with his size, power, and production. Shelvin talks about his path to the Draft on this episode of Hey Fightin' Podcast.
