83 | 10 Practical Ways To Build Your Wardrobe Through Weight Fluctuations Oct 26, 2023
    Show notes

Today's Q&A Thursday question is the most honest, vulnerable, and maybe relatable question I've received yet. Our friend Lyndsay opened up to me recently about her struggle to build a closet when her weight is in a constant flux. She wants to feel stylish but confessed that she nearly always feels unattractive. And it really affected me to hear that.

I want you to feel beautiful no matter your current size, your body shape, your features, your flaws, your budget, your life. It is 100% possible to build a wardrobe you love and to feel your best every single day. I'm on a mission to EMPOWER you to look past your obstacles and discover the simple art and science of getting dressed. It's so much easier than you think!

I know Lyndsay is not alone in this at all. So many women are struggling to feel comfortable in their own skin and to dress their bodies in a way that makes them see just how beautiful they truly are. If you're feeling this way, I wish I could give you the biggest hug. But since I can't do that, I've rounded up 10 practical tips to help you build a wardrobe through weight fluctuations.

Even if you feel like it's a waste of money to buy clothes that might not fit you in another week or month or year. Even if you don't want to buy clothes at your current size. Even if you don't know how to dress to flatter your figure. This IS applicable to you. Please don't dismiss the content in this podcast as only relatable to women who are a specific size or style type or demographic. This information is for YOU. Yes, you, listening right now on the other side of the speaker. I'm talking to you, I'm here to support you, and together, we're going to make sure you stop feeling stuck and insecure and start getting dressed and showing up every day with confidence!

82 | How To Confidently Wear ANY Color You Want Oct 23, 2023
    Show notes

There's an overlooked October holiday you've probably never heard of. It's very near and dear to my heart. Yesterday, October 22nd, was US National Color Day! Yes, that's a real holiday! It was started in the early 1900s as a day to celebrate our relationship with color and the impact it has on our lives.

Color has a direct link to our emotions. It can energize and motivate us. It can inspire creativity and influence our decisions. Wearing your best colors instills confidence and joy when getting dressed. I hear this from my clients all the time.

But I've been noticing a big trend: We're afraid to wear color. We lack the confidence to create outfits in new color combinations. We pair the same things together the same way every time. We default to basic black and we let our closets (and homes) become a blank canvas of white, beige, and gray.

I'm all for a good neutral, but I want to empower you to have less fear around color! So in today's episode, I'm sharing 7 ways to confidently wear ANY color you want. Yes, you can break away from your Personal Color Palette, your comfort zone of camel and cream, and your go-to choice of blue or green (be honest: you know there's one dominant color in your wardrobe!), and wear any color you want with complete confidence.

79 | 7 Ways To Improve Your Shopping Experience as a Petite Plus Size Woman Oct 12, 2023

Wanna hear something crazy? The average woman is approximately 5' 3" worldwide and wears a size 16. This means that the average woman is a petite plus size. Now the crazy thing is, even though this is currently the most common female body type, it also happens to be the hardest sizing to find among retailers.

So if you're short AND you have some curves, you might be feeling frustrated like our friend, Stephanie, who submitted today's Q&A Thursday question. She struggles to find her size in stores but when she orders clothing online, it rarely fits her properly.

If you're a petite plus size woman, this episode is a must listen, because I'm about to serve up 7 ways to improve your shopping experience. Believe me when I say it's possible to build a wardrobe you love, no matter your clothing size. Tall or petite, curvy or slender, there are options out there for you. Now, let's help you find them!

    78 | What I Learned From My 38-Year Struggle with Contentment Oct 09, 2023
    Show notes

About 2 months ago, I added a tagline to HER Style Podcast: Buy Less, Shop Smarter, Build a Wardrobe You Love. I'd be lying if I said that came naturally to me. When I let myself go on autopilot, I want to buy all the things. I shop with abandon. And my wardrobe gets out of control.

I've confessed my former shopaholic ways. I used to believe more was more when it came to my closet. I wanted options and to have a wardrobe brimming with trendy pieces! I never wanted to be photographed or seen in the same thing twice. I depleted my bank account many times on the quest to have it all.

It's taken years of not only discipline, but discernment about what really matters to me, where I want to invest my finances, and learning the hard way that material possessions never satisfy. After 38-years, I no longer define my worth by what I own. But it's taken a long time to get to this place.

In today's episode, following on the heels of what I shared about my parallel battle with perfectionism, I'm diving deep into what I've learned during my lifelong struggle with contentment. If you've ever felt like you need something —anything– outside of you in order to feel happy, confident, or just plain peaceful, then pull up a chair, my friend. We have much to discuss.

77 | Hearing Conflicting Style Advice? Here's How To Quiet the Noise Oct 05, 2023
    Show notes

Happy Thursday, my friend! I put out a call for more Q&A Thursday questions and you delivered! I received a handful of topics to cover in these weekly bonus episodes, but you've gotta keep them coming. They seem to trickle in a few at a time. So if you have a question or a topic you'd like me to cover, please let me know! It doesn't matter if we've talked about it in a past episode or if it feels out of the norm or like an isolated problem that only you face. I'm here for you! And I want to give you exactly what you need in these episodes. So you can head over to herstylellc.com/podcast and leave a voice memo using the Speakpipe plug-in on that page – no fancy tech needed! Just hit the record button and leave a message right from your phone or your computer. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

And I'm very excited to cover today's question, which came in from our friend, Lisa. She's been working hard to rebuild her wardrobe over the last couple of years but she's gotten stuck. She's found so much conflicting advice on the Internet about how to dress for her body's shape and proportions that she has no idea what to do!

So in this episode, I'm going to tell you how to quiet the noise, hone in on the right advice for you, and know exactly what to focus on to build a wardrobe you love.

    76 | What I Learned From My 38-Year Struggle With Perfectionism Oct 02, 2023
    Show notes

Guess what! It's my birthday month! That's right. It's a running joke in my family that I don't just have a birthday… I have a birthday month.

As I was thinking about what I wanted to share with you, I came up with today's topic. But it had 2 different titles: What I Learned From My 38-Year Struggle with Perfectionism and What I Learned From My 38-Year Struggle with Contentment. I couldn't decide which to focus on and I feel like they're equally important messages, so I decided to turn this into a 2-part series. Today, we'll be focusing on perfectionism and next Monday, we'll talk about contentment.

Now, you know I love giving you really tactical episodes on building a wardrobe you love. Admittedly, these 2 episodes are going to be a little bit different from the norm. I'm not talking about the fall trends (you can listen to episode #74 for that!) or how to create better outfits (see episode #72). But from time to time, I like to go deeper and I feel like it's necessary.

Because on a lot of fashion & beauty podcasts, you're going to hear all of the products you need to buy to look younger and prettier. You're going to hear about cosmetic surgeries and what the hottest celebrities are wearing and doing. You might leave feeling less than. I know I have. You're going to hear a laundry list of what you have to have this season to look stylish and be on trend and feel fabulous. But if you've been hanging around HER Style Podcast for a minute, you know I don't subscribe to that. I believe less is more. I want you to shop smarter and with greater intention. And I'm all about helping you work with what you've got rather than making you feel like there's something you're missing.

So today, we're going to dive into my 38-year struggle with perfectionism. I wish I could tell you this is a challenge I've fully overcome. It's still a journey for me as I get ready to celebrate my 39th birthday this month. But I have learned quite a few lessons and I feel like everyday it gets easier to embrace my shortcomings and imperfections.
