Hablaremos sobre sus humildes inicios en Texas rodeados por un contexto social muy diferente al estatus económico de su familia. Conversaremos sobre ser un “underdog” que en contra de todo pronóstico ha logrado estar presente en varios de los eventos artísticos mas grandes a nivel mundial y hacerse de una maestría en el prestigioso School of Art Institute of Chicago. A su vez hablaremos de las realidades del mundo académico en el arte, las ventajas de ser una minoría y el fraude que representan las instituciones educativas en el desarrollo artístico. Hablaremos sobre el cambio en su visión hacia la gráfica para dedicarse al performance y a la educación como formas para contribuir a su comunidad al mismo tiempo que dirige un estudio de impresión comunitario llamado Familia Press junto a Benjamin Muñoz. We talk about his ambitious and process-driven practice, taking images from the headlines showing the realities of the violence of the drug wars in Juarez. He deconstructs them with burnt embossment and power tools, using these techniques as a metaphor for the erasure of the lives of the young men lost. Jessie nació entre dos culturas en el borde de Mexico y los Estados Unidos, aprendiendo a dibujar y esculpir con plastilina como pasatiempo mientras acompañaba a su padre en su taller. Jessie continuó con su deseo de estudiar arte hasta conseguir su maestría en la Universidad de Texas San Antonio. Conversaremos sobre sus dos prácticas, la producción de obra conceptual y la producción de trabajo divertido en Tik-Tok como @BigTamalPress.
