    Pantera: Part Two (1989-1994) Oct 10, 2018
    Show notes

Welcome to this weeks episode of Heavy Metal History.

This weeks episode we pick back up with Part two of the history of the band Pantera. This episode is due to be released on an ominous day, the "deathiversary" of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbot. Not as a means to talk about the loss we as the metal community suffered that day back in 2004, but to honor not only his memory, but his brother Vinnie who passed earlier this year.

And most importantly to remember the accolades and achievements the band reached during their time. This episode goes into the years between 1989 and 1994 of the band where I talk about "Cowboys from Hell" and "Vulgar Display of Power" where the band is at their creative peak and they would change the face of metal as we know it.

Part 3 will continue into the remainder of their discography. (EDITORS NOTE: Sorry Part 3 never came to fruition. It got lost in the shuffle years ago and feels too late to add to this)

Thanks for listening and drink a Black Tooth Grin for Dime!

    R.I.P. "Dimebag" Darrell Abbot August 20th 1966-December 8th 2004

    Albums Discussed:

    • Pantera - "Cowboys from Hell"
    • Pantera - "Vulgar Display of Power"

Steffen Kummerer (Obscura) Jul 08, 2018
    Show notes

Welcome to this weeks episode of Heavy Metal History, our guest this week was Steffen Kummerer, founding member and guitarist of German Death Metal band Obscura.

Obscura has been making waves for over 10 years now with each of their releases exponentially eclipsing their last in technicality, brutality and overall musicianship.

Steffen came on to talk to us about the bands imminent release "Diluvium" which completes their long-running, four-album conceptual circle with the release of Diluvium (defined as a great oceanic flood), their most evocative, diverse and vibrant release to date.

Recorded with longtime producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Pestilence) at Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany, Diluvium is a stunning achievement for the illustrious quartet and a landmark release for progressive metal as a whole. Complete with all the band's signature elements plus groundbreaking polyrhythms, dramatic songwriting, and jaw-dropping virtuosity, OBSCURA raise the bar once again with an album that will go down in the annals of metal history as one of the most astonishing performances the genre has to offer. Diluvium drops July 13th on Relapse records.
