Mistletoe & Mishigas by MA Wardell | Ep. 308 Dec 11, 2023

Show notes

Hey HBs! Happy Hanukkah to every who celebrates! On this 5th day of Hannukah 2023 we're recapping one of the most adorable (and hot!) books ever, Mistletoe and Mishigas by M.A. Wardell. It's an MM contemporary about a sunshine, pocket-sized 1st grade teacher and the Queen-loving, grumpy bear custodian who wants to resist his charm and just can't. Fake dating, size difference, grumpy/sunshine, protagonists in their 30s, This Duke Is A Virgin, communicating only in grunts, PTSD from military service, sickbed care, "I could just watch you," and so much more!

Bonus Content: Mel barely has a voice, the Patreon Discord channel is up!, this is an Own Voices author!, a dimple you can lick hummus out of, and so much more!

Lady Loves:

Sabrina: Tapestry Petite needles! You can use a lot more thread since they're so much shorter than regular cross-stitch and embroidery needles.

Melody: The organization Jewish Voice for Peace has some incredible scripts for calling your legislators to demand a cease-fire and so much more information about the crisis in Gaza right now. Go check out their socials and website to see how you can join or support them! Their IG handle is @jewishvoiceforpeace

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas Part 1 (Crescent City Series) | Ep. 307 Dec 04, 2023

Show notes

HBs! We're kicking off our special Patreon series the 12 Weeks of Maas-mas! That's right, for the next 3 (or probably more) months, Sabrina and Mel will be recapping Crescent City books 1 and 2 on Patreon, in preparation for book 3's release in January!!

In this episode, we cover chapters 1-12 of HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD and we don't hold back! What is haaaaappening?! How did she wreck Mel in the first 5 chapters? Whyyyyyy???

So, you don't need to do a big reread to get prepped for HOUSE OF FLAME AND SHADOW, just head over to Patreon and listen to these hot dummies experience them for the first time.

Bonus Content: who was that beehive lady? Not Reese Witherspoon, rockstar day at elementary school, gettin' horny in the White Raven's bathroom, drunk logic, people pulp, and so much more!

Lady Loves:

Sabrina: don't be afraid to break up your routine! Like when Sabrina eschewed spending Thanksgiving reading with her charcuterie board to go have lunch at an old folks home! She loves an old person.

Mel: mini pies! They're maybe better than regular pies? But make the crust super thin.

When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James | Ep. 306 Nov 27, 2023

Show notes

Hey HBs! We're here with our first historical in a while and Sabrina has decided she lives there now. That's right, When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James has stolen our plucky co-host and may never return her! We've got an erroneously-ruined heroine, a supposedly-impotent and very grumpy doctor hero, and an arranged marriage that "doesn't suit." But swimming lessons might just be the key to flooding everyone's basements.

Bonus Content: Sabrina quits the podcast so she can devote all her time to Eloisa James, Kelly Clarkson moments, boat jokes, unspoken demisexuality, and so much more!

CW: childhood injury and chronic pain, discussions of previous opium addiction, discussions of sexual impotence.

Lady Loves:

Sabrina: Being late to a series so that the library hold times are slim to none and then INHALING that whole series. Don't be afraid to be late to the party!

Mel: (has two again)

In the small moments, practice choosing to see the good in things, or the bright side. Sometimes happiness really is a choice, a quick reframing of an inconvenience can change your whole day!
The Foundation Single Crochet stitch! Apparently you don't have to start every project with chain.
