    Hawkfanatic Podcast 10/9/23 Oct 09, 2023
    Show notes

Don Patterson made his usual Monday appearance on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast and addressed multiple topics.

The former Iowa offensive coordinator and former Western Illinois head coach breaks down Iowa's 20-14 victory over Purdue this past Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, and he looks ahead to this coming Saturday's game at Wisconsin, which could go a long way in determining which team wins the Big Ten West Division.

Don's segment starts at the beginning of the two-hour podcast and lasts for about one hour.

Hawkeye Recap Podcast 10-08-23: Wisconsin Football History and Player Profiles for Jason Baker and Matt Bowen Oct 08, 2023
    Show notes

Brion looks at week 7 opponent Wisconsin and the games played from 1894 until the Nile Kinnick days through 1939. There are almost 100 games played between the two teams, and Iowa is 45-49-2 all-time.

The Hawks lost the first 6 games in the series, including the famous "rabbit game" of 1907. That game also has a game program you can download.

There is also a series of goal post teardowns in 1928 and 1929 that lead to near brawls, which reminded me of the 2002 Minnesota game in the Metrodome, so listen for that in the podcast, and check out the articles to read more.

Iowa had its own winning streak from 1977 to 1996, when the Hawks were 17-0-1 (tied in 1984), but fortunately Iowa didn't play two Wisconsin Rose Bowl teams in 1993 and 1994. I'll highlight the other games after 1939 in a future podcast.

Player profile this week are Jason Baker and Matt Bowen. Both players played under both Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferentz, and both played multiple years in the NFL.

Former Iowa offensive coordinator, and former Western Illinois head coach Don Patterson, made his usual Monday appearance on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast and he addressed multiple topics.

Patterson talks about Iowa's 26-16 victory over Michigan State last Saturday at Kinnick Stadium and he looks ahead to facing Purdue this Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.

He also talks about the situation at quarterback for Iowa where Deacon Hill has replaced the injured Cade McNamara as the starter. McNamara suffered what appeared to be a left knee injury in the first quarter of the Michigan State game.

Hawkeye Recap Podcast 10-01-23: Purdue Football History and Player Profiles for Kevin Kasper and Aaron Kampman Oct 02, 2023
    Show notes

Brion looks at week 6 opponent Purdue and the games played from 1910 until the Nile Kinnick days. There are almost 100 games played between the two teams, and Iowa is 40-50-3 all-time.

Update: I did forgot to mention 3 early games in the history, each with Daily Iowan article links but no game summaries:

    • 1911: 11-0 win at home
    • 1915: 19-13 loss on the road
    • 1916, a 24-6 win at home under coach Howard Jones

The Hawks lost 20 straight games from 1961 to 1980, and Iowa won 9 straight from 1983-1991. I'll highlight the other games in a future podcast.

Player profile this week are Kevin Kasper and Aaron Kampman. Both players played under both Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferentz, and both played multiple years in the NFL.
