She’s performed at the most prestigious concert venues around the world. Harvey Brownstone Interviews Highly Acclaimed Actress, Singer & Dancer, Sandy Duncan Mar 11, 2025
    Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Highly Acclaimed Actress, Singer & Dancer, Sandy Duncan

    About Harvey's guest:

Today’s guest, Sandy Duncan, is a highly acclaimed and beloved actress, singer and dancer who has been dazzling audiences for 6 decades in every medium of the entertainment world.

On the big screen, she starred in “Star Spangled Girl”, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. And that same year, she received another Golden Globe nomination for most promising female newcomer for her delightful performance in the Disney movie, “The Million Dollar Duck”. She also appeared in a number of other great movies like “The Cat From Outer Space” and “Never Again”, and she was unforgettable as “Pinocchio” in the wonderful 1976 TV movie, “Pinoccio” co-starring Danny Kaye and Flip Wilson. And of course, we all remember her stellar performance as “Missy Anne Reynolds” in the groundbreaking TV miniseries, “Roots”, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination for outstanding supporting actress.

She starred in several TV sitcoms, starting with “Funny Face”, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series. She then starred in “The Sandy Duncan Show”. And then, in 1987, she astonished the whole world by achieving something that many people thought was impossible: she took over the lead in Valerie Harper’s TV sitcom, “Valerie”, after Ms. Harper left the show, which was ultimately renamed “The Hogan Family”, and she actually made the show better, and kept it going successfully for a further four seasons, which is a truly remarkable accomplishment that no one else in this business could ever have done unless they had the immense popularity and likeability of our guest.

She guest starred in many classic TV shows like “Bonanza”, “The Six Million Dollar Man”, “The Bionic Woman”, “Law & Order: SVU”, and she starred in one of my all-time favourite TV movies, “My Boyfriend’s Back” with Jill Eikenberry and Judith Light. She was also a regular on “Hollywood Squares” and numerous TV game shows, and she guest starred on every major variety show including “The Sammy Davis Jr. Show”, “The Jackie Gleason Show”, “The Sonny and Cher Show”, “The Flip Wilson Show”, “Laugh-In” and dozens more. And get this: in the late 70s, our guest received four consecutive nominations for a Photoplay Gold Medal Award for Favourite Variety Star.

And on Broadway, our guest has had a stellar career, with THREE Tony Award nominations, for her performances in “Canterbury Tales”, “The Boy Friend”, and “Peter Pan”. She won a Drama Desk Award for her performance in “The Boy Friend”, and she received ANOTHER Drama Desk Award nomination for her work in “Peter Pan”. Her other Broadway performances include “My One and Only”, “Chicago” and “Finding Neverland”. She’s starred in numerous national tours of “Peter Pan”, “My One and Only” and “The King and I”.

And off-Broadway, she won a Theatre World Award for her performance in “The Ceremony of Innocence”. She’s also starred in many theatrical productions including “No, No Nanette”, “Driving Miss Daisy”, “The Glass Menagerie” and many more.

And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest is a recipient of the prestigious National Rehabilitation Hospital Victory Award, which is given to individuals who exhibit exceptional courage and strength in the face of adversity. And most recently, she received the Medal of Arts Award from her home state of Texas.

Harvey Brownstone Interviews Burt Kearns, Author, “SHEMP! The Biography of the Three Stooges’ Shemp Howard” Feb 19, 2025
    Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Burt Kearns, Author, “SHEMP! The Biography of the Three Stooges’ Shemp Howard”

    About Harvey's guest:

Today’s guest, Burt Kearns, is an award-winning producer, director, writer, journalist and author who is renowned for his work in nonfiction television and film, in TV shows like “Breaking the Ice”, “Legsville Oral History”, “Guinness World Records Unleashed”, “Joe Rogan Questions Everything”, “The Secret History of Rock 'n' Roll” with Gene Simmons, “All The Presidents’ Movies”, and many more. He produced the excellent 2001 documentary, “Death of A Beatle”, about the death of John Lennon, and he co-wrote and produced the 2006 movie, “Cloud 9”, starring Burt Reynolds. He’s an Emmy Award winning newswriter, and he served as managing editor and producer of the highly popular TV shows, “A Current Affair” and “Hard Copy”.

But beyond all of that, our guest is also a highly acclaimed author. He wrote, “Tabloid Baby”, which traces the evolution of the tabloid television genre. He then co-wrote “The Show Won't Go On: The Most Shocking, Bizarre, and Historic Deaths of Performers Onstage”, followed by “Lawrence Tierney: Hollywood's Real-Life Tough Guy”.

Last year, he appeared on our show to discuss his brilliant bestselling book entitled, “Marlon Brando: Hollywood Rebel”.

And now, he’s back to talk about his brand new book entitled, “Shemp: The Biography of the Three Stooges’ Shemp Howard: The Face of Film Comedy.” The Three Stooges are widely considered to be the greatest, most successful and most influential slapstick comedy group in modern history, and if you’re a fan of The Three Stooges – and who isn’t? – this extremely well-researched book is an absolute must-read, because the author enlightens us on the incredibly impressive – but until now, largely unexplored - life and body of work of the most misunderstood and the most underrated member of The Three Stooges, Shemp Howard, who was actually a highly accomplished, influential and respected comic actor in his own right.

Along with his brother Moe and vaudeville comedian Larry Fine, Shemp was an original member of the Three Stooges, but in 1932 he quit the group to pursue a solo acting career. He appeared in over a hundred movies alongside the biggest Hollywood stars, including W.C. Fields, John Wayne, James Stewart, Marlene Dietrich, William Powell, Lon Chaney Jr., Myrna Loy, and the team of Abbott & Costello. But in 1946, when Curly became too ill to continue working, Shemp gave up a successful film career to help his brothers out by returning to The Three Stooges.

And what’s really fascinating and compelling about this book, is that, because of his meticulous research, our guest challenges and debunks the “official” version of Three Stooges history, largely promoted by Moe, that’s been repeated for decades. The book shatters many myths and uncovers the surprising and often troubling facts behind the scenes surrounding Shemp’s departure from and return to The Three Stooges, and the circumstances surrounding his untimely death. But more than anything, the book confirms Shemp Howard’s well-deserved place in cinematic history.

On television, in addition to the TV shows I already mentioned, he’s appeared in dozens of classic series including “Hill Street Blues”, “L.A. Law”, “Cagney & Lacey”, “NYPD Blue”, “Touched by an Angel”, “ER”, “Law and Order”, “JAG”, “The Good Wife”, “Shameless”, “This is Us” and many more.

He’s also starred in a number of terrific TV movies and miniseries including “At Mother’s Request”, “David”, “Quiet Victory: The Charlie Wedemeyer Story”, “The Great Los Angeles Earthquake”, “Overexposed”, “Terror in the Family”, and “From the Earth to the Moon”, to name only a few.

And on the stage, he’s appeared on Broadway in “Lombardi” and “A Christmas Story: The Musical”. And off-Broadway, he’s appeared in many shows including “Game Plan”, “Dinner with the Boys” and “Just Another Day”, ALL of which he also wrote.

And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest has also written 3 children’s books in a series called “The Godfather Tales”.

    Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Legendary Singer / Songwriter, Peabo Bryson

    About Harvey's guest:

Today’s guest, Peabo Bryson, is a legendary singer and songwriter who is widely referred to as “the voice of love”.

In a career spanning 5 decades, this man’s rich, soulful voice has brought us 21 albums, 5 of which have been certified gold, in addition to 8 compilation albums. He’s released 57 hit singles including “Reaching for the Sky”, “I’m So Into You”, “Minute by Minute”, “Let the Feeling Flow”, “If Ever You’re In my Arms Again”, “Show & Tell”, “Can You Stop the Rain”, and of course, he’s recorded some of the greatest duets of the past century including “Gimme Some Time” and “What You Won’t Do for Love” with Natalie Cole, “Here We Go” with Minnie Ripperton, “Make the World Stand Still”, “Tonight I Celebrate My Love” and “You’re Lookin’ Like Love to Me” with Roberta Flack, “Lovers After All” with Melissa Manchester, “You Are My Home” with Linda Eder, “By the Time This Night Is Over” with Kenny G, “We Kiss in the Shadows” with Lea Salonga, and of course we all remember the mega-blockbuster classic duets which earned our guest TWO Grammy Awards: “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion, and “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle, and BOTH of those songs won Academy Awards for the Disney animated feature films, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin”.

This man is so phenomenally successful, that he’s the first artist in music history to have separate songs topping FOUR different Billboard charts: pop, R & B, Classical Crossover and Contemporary Jazz. And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest has also starred onstage in “Raisin”, and he played “The Wizard” in “The Wiz”, and he starred as “Sporting Life” in the Michigan Opera’s 100th Anniversary Production of “Porgy and Bess”.

He’s currently on a North American tour and then headed to Japan, but he’s taken time out of his very busy schedule to speak with me today.
