A few weeks ago Jay and I did a little Q&A based off some listener submissions. It was fun, and lighthearted, and I think that is the best way to send the podcast off on until its time to return from hiatus. I hope everyone enjoys. Thank you for listening. Until next time (and there WILL be a next time…)
On our last interview episode before hiatus, Roman sits down with Michael Nine to discuss his pathway into experimental sound and performance and his experiences performing as DEATH SQUAD and beyond.
If there’s any reason this podcast ever works properly, its probably because Jay of BLESSED SACRIFIST is losing his hair trying to correct Roman’s constant mistakes. From audio quality to finalizing every episode, Jay’s been the producer behind the host and the podcast for the last year. It seemed only sensible to finally have him on to talk how he found his way to noise, his time with Milwaukee’s BORG WARD, and his new album “Loss Of Innocence”…
For almost 30 years now, John Wiese has been a prolific and profound artist within both the sound and visual arts, operating as a solo act and also within influential acts such as SISSY SPACEK and LHD. John sat down with Roman last October for a comprehensive look at his trajectory and the motivations for his work.
In the first episode where the interview was recorded during the pandemic and with social distancing conditions, percussionist Michael Kimaid from the experimental group KBD joins us to talk about finding his way from a childhood drumset to a lifetime of experiences from punk, hardcore, and finally noise.
KBD “Viae” from Viae, July 2014 (Self-released) KBD(uo) “Side Two” from Loss/Gain (Rubber City Noise) Michael Kimaid “Wheels Within Wheels” from Drift (Factotum Tapes) KBD “Unbecoming” from Two-Face (Self-released)
This month Roman is joined by the UK’s Dean Lloyd Robinson of KNIFEDOUTOFEXISTENCE. Shortly after completing a weekend tour of the No Coast USA, the conversation here captures us exploring Dean’s pathway into and throughout noise, the mental health struggles of being an artist, and more. An excellent listen as always!
Excerpts this episode:
“Nocturnal Contrast” From Cracks Below The Surface on Strange Rules
“Cast A Shadow” From Tour Split With Plague Mother (self released)
“Metastasis” From The Weight Of The World (Spread Across The Length Of A Year) on Aught Void
“Document 6 And Being Late” From Immaturity Of Movement on Outsider Art
April quarantines bring May… well, quarantines, but luckily this month we are joined by MIKE SHIFLET in a great discussion about punk and DIY ethos and how transformative those can be not only in the world of experimental music, but beyond.
Does anyone in the world of noise really not know who AARON DILLOWAY is?! Probably not, and for good reason. Whether its his work as a member of WOLF EYES or on his own as a recording artist, or as the brain behind HANSON RECORDS as a label, distro, and brick and mortar shop, Aaron is a key figure in the modern experimental music world and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him in the interview chair this month!
