    Show notes

Zoe Chance is a behavioral scientist at the Yale School of Management and one of its most popular instructors. She worked her way up from telemarketing and door-to-door sales to managing Mattel’s Barbie brand’s $200 million business to Yale. Zoe’s research has been published in The New York Times, BBC, The Economist, and the Harvard Business Review. Her popular TEDx talk, “How to Make a Behavior Addictive,” has over 600,000 views. Zoe received her doctorate degree from Harvard, her MBA from the University of Southern California, and her bachelor’s degree from Haverford College. Zoe’s latest book is called Influence Is Your Superpower: The Science of Winning Hearts, Sparking Change, and Making Good Things Happen. If you are a Bob Cialdini or Katy Milkman fan, you’ll love this book. This is the longest episode of Remarkable People because it overfloweth with practical and tactical advice about influencing, persuading, and change. I tried to find stuff to cut, but I couldn’t. What can I say?

Frederick Joseph: Author, Philanthropist, and Educator May 18, 2022
    Show notes

Great conversation on Guy Kawasaki's Remarkable People with Frederick Joseph, philanthropist, activist, and New York Times best-selling author. In this episode, you’ll see how little Guy knows about current black culture, but at least he knows what he doesn't know. And he's willing to learn. Frederick Joseph created the largest GoFundMe campaign in history called the #BlackPantherChallenge. It raised over $950K, and allowed more than 75,000 children worldwide to see 'Black Panther’ for free. Frederick was a national surrogate for the Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders presidential campaigns and was selected for the Forbes Under 30 List in 2019. Fred is the New York Times bestselling author of The Black Friend: On Being a Better White Person, and his new book, PATRIARCHY BLUES: Reflections on Manhood. The Black Friend is fantastic.

Marshall is the author of What Got You Here Won’t Get You There and Triggers. Amazon named both the books to its Top 100 Leadership & Success Books Ever Written list. Marshall’s new book is THE EARNED LIFE; Lose Regret, Choose Fulfillment. It explains no less than what you should do with your life before you reach the end of it. In short, are about to hear advice that the most powerful executives in the world pay tens of thousands of dollars for. And last but not least, Marshall and I negotiated my adoption in this episode. I hope he’s aware of how many surfboards I need every year.

Neil deGrasse Tyson: Astrophysicist, Planetary Scientist, and Author Apr 20, 2022
    Show notes

For decades, Neil deGrasse Tyson has shared his knowledge and his wonder about the depths of the universe, helping millions grasp what they see when they look up at the sky.

Neil is director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. It turns out that Neil was born in New York City the same week NASA was founded. His interest in the universe traces back to age 9, after a first visit to the exact planetarium he is now the director for… the cosmos aligned that day.

In addition to being an astrophysicist, Neil is also a teacher, actor, philosopher, cosmologist, science writer, and television editor.

I dare say that this may be the least astrophysic-y interview he’s ever done. We delve into topics such as:

    • How he picked which college to attend
    • The naming of his daughter
    • What his family discusses at the dinner table
    • What he would do if he were dean of admissions of Harvard
    • How flight attendants assume he’s not in first-class because he’s black
    • The limitations of the bible as a reference source
    • Why he doesn’t mind how Mark Zuckerberg uses the term “metaverse”
In other words, this is truly a remarkable interview with a truly remarkable person.

By the way, a few hours before the interview I got a shot (two if you count the anesthesia) because of sudden hearing loss in my left ear. I’ve been deaf in the right ear for years.
But the show must go on. If Beethoven can compose deaf, I can podcast deaf.

Enjoy this interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson!
