182. Trainer Fight! Mar 21, 2023

Show notes

The common saying is the only thing you can get two dog trainers to agree on is that the third trainer doesn't know what they're doing. There are some topics or subjects in the dog world that all people just aren't going to agree on. That shouldn't keep people from having open and honest conversations about them though.

After Jeremy Moore (Dogbone Hunter) listened to the recent episode 172 I did with Bob Owens (Loneduck Outfitters), he reached out with some concerns and thoughts that warranted further discussion. Both trainers agreed to come on and try to lead by example by putting their cards on the table and openly discuss Force Fetch and E-collars for everyone to hear in hopes that it provides some value overall to other people that may be conflicted on some of the same topics!

-What is "Trainer Fights" intro

-What is Force Fetch?

-"Learning to learn"

-Formalizing the retrieve with hold conditioning and building off obedience

-Hold conditioning

-What if a dog drops an object AFTER hold conditioning?

-Avoid creating bad habits in the first place

-Is it the same number of reps whether its spaced out over 16 months as opposed to speeding it up in a 4 month program?

-How influencers influence the average DIY trainer at home

-We create these issues that we are fixing via Force Fetch later down the road

-"Just a hunting dog"

-Hunting vs. testing scenarios

-How to handle a "no go"

-Consequences vs. Incentives

-"Electricity" vs "Stimulation"

-The "right tool" means absolutely nothing in the "wrong hands"

-"The score doesnt matter at the end of the first quarter!"

-You dont have to do MORE. Just do less but better.
