The Biblical Worldview on Overcoming Fear & Worry | Breaking Free From Worry Oct 01, 2024
    Show notes

Author Erma Bombeck was quoted as saying “Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.” Matthew 6:27 is pretty frank: “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us overcome fear and worry. In a new series, we’re learning to adopt a biblical worldview . . . and we’ll learn today, that worldview doesn’t include worry. We’ll see worry and faith are mutually exclusive.

The Biblical Worldview on Salvation | Work Out Your Own Salvation Sep 30, 2024
    Show notes

Where does your electricity come from in your home? The electric company, right? You’re connected directly. Your neighbor is connected directly. You’re not running an extension cord over to the neighbor’s to power up your lights. (At least I hope not.) Well, we each need a direct spiritual connection to our Heavenly Father. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out how that sheds light on Paul’s injunction to “work out our own salvation.” Glad you’re along today for Pastor Greg’s Worldview Series.

Is Church Important? | Sunday Message Sep 29, 2024
    Show notes

There are many steps we take in the Christian life—some that move us forward, some that move us backward. Church is one of those things that moves us ahead. Yet, some of us still refuse to make it a priority. Pastor Jonathan Laurie helps us see church from a biblical view and why that step into church matters so much…

    Notes:

Focus verses: Acts 2, Romans 12
    Read: Acts 2:42–47
Church is not all about you. Church is all about God and His glory.
    Psalm 103:1–5
    Hebrews 10:24–25
The church exists for the upward glorification of God, the inward edification of the saints, and for the outward evangelization of the world.
    Matthew 16:18
“Church is a new society called out from society at large to be God's people.” –Skip Heitzig
    Read: Romans 12:3–12
    1 Corinthians 12:22–25

The Prodigal Prophet | Jonah's Unexpected Role in the Parable Sep 26, 2024

How many prodigals does the Bible tell us about? Well, most Bible students would say one. Pastor Greg Laurie has pointed out before that the prodigal son had an older brother who could also be considered a prodigal. So . . . two? Would you believe there may be three prodigals in the Bible? Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg points out that Jonah could be considered the prodigal prophet. But when he turned his life around, he helped an entire city turnaround and come to God.

The Message That Brought a Spiritual Awakening | How Word of Mouth Changed a City Sep 24, 2024
    Show notes

They say the best form of advertising is word of mouth. When one person tells another about his experience, it’s very persuasive. Well, that form of expression was around long before Madison Avenue brought it to radio and TV. The Lord invited us to tell others what He’s done for us. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie shows us what we can learn on this issue from the prophet who ran from God—Jonah. We’ll see, when Jonah finally turned around, so did an entire city!

The Message That Brought a Spiritual Awakening | Going Beyond Our Comfort Zone Sep 23, 2024
    Show notes

Some people are so easy to get along with, you can’t not like them. Know what I mean? Then there are others . . . Well, let’s just say there are others. How eager are you to share Christ with those who are less likeable? How about someone who makes you uneasy . . . or someone who intimidates you? Or someone whose lifestyle is so unlike yours? Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us see how God’s love can help us go where our comfort zone leaves off.

How Can a God of Love Allow Pain and Suffering? | Sunday Message Sep 22, 2024
    Show notes

After a tragedy, lots of people are quick to question God—how could He allow such things? Yet we know from Scripture that He’s loving, merciful, and good… so how does that work? Pastor Greg Laurie responds to our question of why God allows suffering.

    Notes:

    Focus verse: Job 1

From the day we are born life is filled with troubles.
    Job 5:7

More people point to the problem of evil and suffering as their reason for not believing in God than any other.

God doesn't become "good" just because that's my opinion of Him.
God is good because He says He is!

God’s thoughts are above our thoughts.

Mankind was not created evil, but perfect. Man has the ability to choose right or wrong. Humanity, not God, is responsible for sin. If Adam had not sinned, we would never die or get sick.

God wants to be loved and obeyed by creatures who voluntarily choose to do so.

"Undeserved" suffering is what bothers us.

Christians will suffer also. 1 Peter 4:12

We need to prepare for suffering.

Job was a man of integrity.
He was blessed by God with wealth and a wonderful family.
Job was also a prayerful man.

    Job 1:8

Job lost his children. Job 1:18—20

Faith that cannot be tested is a faith that cannot be trusted.

    Turn to Jesus.

God will also allow suffering and sickness to get our attention.

God is in control of all circumstances that surround the believer. The devil can do nothing in the life of the Christian without express permission on the part of God.

Suffering helps us grow spiritually and makes us stronger in our faith.
    Job 42:5

    Job 23:10

Trials are like God’s gym; they make where we are broken down to be built up.
    James 1:2

Suffering can be used to prepare us for a special task.

Success builds walls, but failures build bridges.

    2 Corinthians 1:3—5

How do you survive something like this?
You need to turn to Jesus.

“Why do bad things happen to good people?” That only happened once and He volunteered. Turn from your sin and turn to Christ.

How to Reach Our Culture | Delivering the Most Important Message Sep 20, 2024
    Show notes

In the days of the pony express, riders would blaze across trails, up hills, down embankments, across grassy meadows and through blazing deserts. They had one job: deliver the mail. They may have had plenty of reasons to abort their mission: weather, hunger, sickness, attacks by Paiute Indians—but they persevered. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out we have a much more important message to deliver, and that message must get through.
