CelticsPod: MIA recap & Smart of War Dec 06, 2019

Show notes

Adam Taylor (@AdamTaylorNBA) and Brenden Nunes (@BrendenNunesNBA) recap a nice win against a strong opponent in the Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat who are now led by Jimmy Butler. Miami looked tired being on the second night of a back to back and Boston took advantage of that, Kemba Walker had a hot start, and Jaylen Brown iced the game with a strong third quarter. Then, a brand new segment that will be regular on the show, the Smart of War was introduced. In the Smart of War, Brenden and Adam will spend some time checking the status of the Celtics' enemies in the Eastern Conference, as well as a Memphis pick watch, usually joined by guests of the opposing teams to get their insight. The first showing of SoW is focusing on the longtime rival Philadelphia 76ers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

CelticsPod: Mailbag & potential trade talk Dec 04, 2019

Show notes

Adam Taylor (@AdamTaylorNBA) and Brenden Nunes (@BrendenNunesNBA) take questions from listeners on twitter as well as a post that will be up every so often on CelticsBlog and get to some answers. Many of the questions were directed toward potential trade targets and possibilities for an upgrade at the center position, so we spent most of this episode focusing on what that would look like for Boston, who would need to be included, and the most realistic candidates before the trade deadline. We will be doing mailbags quite often, so be sure to stay on that look out for your chance to get a question in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Coach Nick: How Team USA failed and Boston Celtics could similarly Sep 21, 2019

Show notes

BBallBreakdown's Coach Nick covered the FIBA World Cup, and saw astonishing developments from the Celtics cast present. He noted Kemba Walker holds the tendencies of using motion and momentum through screens with less dribbling than Kyrie Irving, troubling ball conflict with Donovan Mitchell emerged in the loss to France. Nick saw little progression from Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, while he ripped into Marcus Smart's continued frustrating tendencies. The basketball video breakdown expert gave a look into what the Celtics could look like in 2019-20, and a "terrible showing" for the USA in FIBA. Show notes: Can we compare FIBA and NBA (9:55)? Isaiah came off handoffs and full-speed off catches, without a ton of dribbling like Kyrie. Kemba comfortable in the pistol action. Does Kemba have to help Brown/Tatum reach next level? Concerned about the youth...(16:45) Defense after Horford, recovery, switching and more...the underrated loss of Aron Baynes (Celtics could get hammered by teams that go with two bigs) Could the Celtics play a wing at center like USA did? Marcus Smart criticism (23:30) Weighing the Brad Stevens offense (26:15) "He's going to have to win a Finals. He's going to have to make it to the NBA Finals." How the Celtics could play defense. Boston Celtics in the SI NBA Top 100, FIBA World Cup effects for USA and Jerry Colangelo comments Sep 16, 2019

Show notes

SI released a Top-100 player list featuring Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker. We debated the criteria, with a preview of Coach Nick's assessment of the four players who represented Boston with Team USA coming up later this week on the pod. Is Smart an offensive player? Has Caris LeVert or Jaylen Brown progressed more to this point? Did Jayson Tatum progress? Is Kemba on the verge of breaking into the elite of the NBA? And why in the world is Zach LaVine so low? Speaking of Team USA, remember how odd that roster selection process was? Mason Plumlee made the team while Bam Adebayo got cut. Derrick White made the team while Trae Young sat out and De'Aaron Fox dropped out? Now, Jerry Colangelo called out the defectors (Devin Booker? Bradley Beal? Anthony Davis?) saying he won't forget who dropped out. Is the USA bound to repeat mistakes for 2020, and what's that mean for the Celtics' involvement in Tokyo next summer? Jayson Tatum growth, Giannis, Greece and are Team USA issues Celtics issues? Sep 06, 2019

Show notes

As Team USA leans hard into Kemba Walker for offensive production, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown eat what's left on the wing and Harrison Barnes plays some center this looks more like the Celtics. Forget four Boston players on the team, the wing-heavy attack, defensive concerns inside and a system reliant on egalitarian movement outside of the heavy-usage point guard signals issues the C's could face. Does the international game and the thrown-together roster make this comparison unjust? Bonus debate looking toward: will Marcus Smart play center? Learn more about your ad choices.
