Celtics PRIDE: 10 Day Rollercoaster & Tatum Nicknames Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

The Celtics PRIDE team recaps the past 10 days of rollercoasters with this Celtics Team including tough losses to Washington and Chicago, Marcus Smart calling out his teammates, huge wins against Orlando and Miami and Luka Doncic’s dagger in Dallas. Are they playing with more effort? Was Marcus Smart right to call out Tatum and Brown the way he did? What is the level of frustration with this team after going 2-1 to bring the season’s record to 4-6? Josh leads a stock watch conversation on which players are trending up and down, including Al Horford’s incredible play, Nesmith and Langford showing something, Josh Richardson starting to look better but not enough. There’s still a big hole Josh would like to see the team fill. The guys also look to a rematch against Toronto, a challenging game against Milwaukee and two easy ones against Cleveland. Will there be a let-down? Finally, the conversation circles back to Jayson Tatum after Adam workshops a long list of nicknames for Tatum born out of frustration about his softness, complaining to the refs, isolation focus. Celtics PRIDE: Pusillanimous Nov 02, 2021
    Show notes

The Celtics PRIDE co-hosts meet the 2-5 Celtics face to face in this podcast, with their reaction to the Celtics' 7th game of the season - a backbreaking, 18-point-3rd-quarter-lead-gifting, come-from-behind loss to the Chicago Bulls. And they all agree it’s worth the first 30 minutes of this podcast to go “in” on Jayson Tatum and dissect what’s really going wrong with this team and its best player. Mike Minkoff @mikeminkoffnba thinks Jayson Tatum is playing with a losers’ mindset. Adam Motenko is sick of Tatum’s complaining to the refs and not running back on defense. Yet Josh Motenko @coachmotenko pulls out the dictionary. “Jayson Tatum is pusillanimous (pyoo-suh-lan-uh-muhs): lacking courage or resolution; cowardly; faint-hearted; timid.” Yet Coach Josh is not all the way sure the team needs to have its best player be its best leader. He also points out that there are some systemic issues with how we got here. Firstly being that the Celtics don’t have one truly great passer on the team, and he gives stats to show how the solid ones they do have are not playing up to par. Somehow the pod circles back around to Jayson Tatum with the question, “How long do we wait for Tatum to figure it out?” Mikoff wonders if he will ever reach the next level, while Coach Josh posits that there are two types of superstars - those who were built great, and those who had to learn to be great. Would you compare Tatum to Giannis, Pierce, Dirk or Durant in this way? Celtics PRIDE: Hornets Game Instant Reaction Oct 26, 2021
    Show notes

The CelticsPRIDE guys give an instant reaction to the Celtics' 4th game of the season - an overtime thriller vs. the Charlotte Hornets. Old friend Terry Rozier watched this game from the sidelines as the Celtics had to band together to climb out of a hole to even the score late in the 4th quarter. This supercharged Hornets team, led by dynamo gunslinger LaMelo Ball's 3 point shooting and passing was the better team most of the game. LaMelo's court vision and instincts created easy baskets all game long for Gordon Hayward and other teammates, but somehow Marcus Smart came through defensively with the luck of the Irish in the clutch. Adam Motenko, Josh Motenko @coachmotenko and Mike Minkoff @mikeminkoffnba discuss the patterns they're starting to see after 4 games this year, Ime Udoka's mistakes, and how much to overreact to them, as well as the difference between Brad Stevens and Udoka based on some quotes the players have made recently. They even give you a new segment they like to call "NBA Hair Update," as Coach Josh brings some humor to the Pod. "This is the first time Gordon Hayward has played an NBA season without product in his hair since his rookie year. Do you think his injury fortunes will change?" Celtics PRIDE: Jeff Clark on this year's team, Celticsblog reminiscing and a memory test on his articles Oct 19, 2021
    Show notes

Celticsblog.com founder and CEO Jeff Clark joins the Celtics PRIDE guys to talk about the upcoming Celtics season, reminisce about the start of the blog and to test Jeff’s memory of things he’s written. Adam Motenko, Josh Motenko @coachmotenko and Mike Minkoff @mikeminkoffnba, start by asking Jeff which Celtics player he called “3Pac”, who he described as “a hot mess, but our hot mess.” Find out which former Celtics Jeff called his “binky” which Celtic draft pick Jeff was most wrong about. Then they get into a discussion about the upcoming season. Just how optimistic is Jeff this year? How far does he think the team can go? Who is he sneakily excited about? Should we worry about Marcus Smart? What about Robert Williams’ injury history? Who Jeff thinks is our closing lineup at the end of the season. Josh ends the podcast by taking Jeff back in time to look at the prominent players both on the Celtics and on the blog that built the site.
