    Good As New

Life is messy, beautiful, heartbreaking, happy, and everything in between. It’s those moments that help shape us, give us insight into who we are at our core, and hopefully help craft relationships that will last a lifetime. Events like loss, birth, marriage, graduation and so many more are like road markers along our personal paths, and things don’t always (for better or worse) go as planned. But it’s the story and the results that define who we are – and it’s those life-changing stories that will be coming to you this January with Jaj, who recently found herself a widow with 2 young kids, and Rylee, a budding entrepreneur whose big dreams and even bigger drive are being juggled with the adventure of being a newlywed. Their stories aren’t perfect, but that’s not what we’re here for. We’re learning as we go and hopefully, coming out better than we began. Listen to “Good As New” an imperfectly perfect podcast sharing the moments that break us and build us stronger.

Happy Love Month, people! Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or a proud Valentine’s Day hater, we’ve got thoughts. Lots of them. This week, we break down the bizarre relationship limbo of being apart for 10 whole days (does it get awkward?? Do we need a ‘Welcome Home’ sign??), our hot takes on The Bachelor (spoiler: we were SHOCKED at that first impression rose), and why we will never understand Kanye’s wife’s wardrobe choices at the Grammys.

Also on the docket: Beyoncé winning a country album award (justice for Chris Stapleton), Miley’s jellyfish haircut, the absolute fever dream of Charlie XCX’s performance, and whether Lady Gaga is legally required to terrify us at every award show. Oh, and in true Good As New fashion, we’re starving and deeply discussing the ethics of In-N-Out vs. Raising Cane’s.

Buckle up for a ride of hot takes, chaotic energy, and unsolicited opinions. Hit play, grab some food (because we didn’t), and let’s get into it. 🎧✨

How soon is too soon to move on? Is there a time-limit on healing? What are the appropriate steps to take when moving on from loss after love? In today's episode we talk about navigating the complicated, heart-wrenching journey of love after loss. Yep, we’re diving deep into those "When are you getting married?" questions (thanks for the pressure, guys). If you've ever wondered how to balance hope and fear, or how to find joy without letting go of the past, this one’s for you.

Plus, I share my recent scalp spa adventure—because, apparently, rice water is the secret to hair as long as your toddler's list of illnesses. And yes, I’ve got the cringe-worthy before-and-after scalp photos to prove it. You’re welcome!

So whether you're in the mood for a laugh, a good cry, or just some unfiltered real talk, this episode’s got a little something for everyone. Hit play, grab a tissue, and let’s navigate this beautiful mess together. 🎧

Today’s guest, Brett, takes us on a wild ride through his unexpected journey of going from a thriving fitness buff to a fatigued shadow of himself. Brett experienced a two-year battle with a debilitating and mysterious illness that left him severely underweight, chronically fatigued, and struggling with intense brain fog and migraines. Despite numerous doctor visits and extensive testing, no one could figure out the root cause of his symptoms—until he took matters into his own hands.
After enduring this grueling journey, he’s regained his health, feeling Good as New, and found a new purpose in running marathons, inspiring others, and spreading the message of gratitude and perseverance.

In light of everything that's been lost to those in Southern California, it has us asking what makes us feel rich? Forget yachts and diamond rings—true wealth might just be watching your kids excel at a sport or having people show up for you in a time of need. After seeing people redefine what it means to be ‘rich’ in the wake of loss, we asked our listeners: What makes you feel wealthy? And let me tell you, the answers are pure gold. Tune in to this week’s episode of Good As New to hear what riches really look like (hint: it’s not in your wallet).

New Year, Good As New Me Jan 07, 2025

Hey, besties, it’s Rylee and Jaj, and we’re BACK in our cute-as-heck newly decorated studio for the Good as New podcast 2025 reboot! (Okay, not a reboot. More like a glow-up. We’ve got actual baseboards now.)

This week, we’re spilling on all the chaos and charm of starting fresh in the new year. We’re chatting about everything from fail-proof goals (hint: pick habits, not resolutions) to the word that’s going to define your year—ours might just be “simple,” but let’s be real, “Xanax” is in the running.

We also recount our holiday adventures: toaster fires (thanks, garlic bread), Vegas crowds that had us questioning our life choices, and a harrowing Home Goods trip involving a 25-pound bowl and a very confused cashier. Plus, we’re embracing our inner vision board queens—because manifesting your dream life is so 2025.

Whether your vibe this year is “clean girl aesthetic” or “survive January,” we’re here to remind you: romanticize the little things, hug your people, and for the love of baseboards, take down that Christmas tree already.

    Holiday Horrors Dec 24, 2024
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

It’s Rylee and Jaj here, serving up holiday vibes, family awkwardness, and questionable gift decisions on this holly jolly episode of Good As New. Christmas Eve is here (!!!), and we’re diving into the magic, the mess, and the madness of last-minute wrapping, weird holiday traditions, and the inevitable family drama (because let’s be honest, someone always makes it weird).

From creepy uncles to dirty jokes gone wrong at family parties, we’re sharing your hilarious—and slightly horrifying—holiday disaster stories. Plus, we’re spilling on navigating the “holiday parent split,” setting boundaries, and how to gracefully dodge your mother-in-law’s cinnamon rolls when you’re secretly craving your mom’s stuffing.

Takeaway? YOU create the magic, not the gifts. But hey, if you’re listening, Santa, we wouldn’t say no to an Aritzia coat or a therapy session that doesn’t leave us emotionally wrecked.

Hug your people, snap those family pics (but put your phone down after), and have yourself a drama-free (ish) Christmas Eve. 🎅✨

P.S. Stay tuned for our post-Christmas breakdown of even more holiday horror stories—because the drama never takes a day off. 🎁🎄

Guys, we're just trying to keep it together as we race toward Christmas! This week, we’re sharing all the festive chaos: from last-minute gift scrambles (pro tip: Amazon is your BFF) to the aftermath of our dreamy girl dinner event—Olive Garden, Bev’s drink bar, and non-drip candles totally stole the show. Plus, hear about our wild plans for a couples’ casino night (yes, please!) and the Grand America staycation tradition Riley’s starting with her kids.

Also, real talk: parking lots are war zones, Target should come with hazard pay, and wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve is a sport. So grab your cranberry, lime Diet Coke (or three), hug your people extra tight, and let’s embrace the beautiful chaos that is this season.

P.S. We share all the hot tips for last-minute gifts and surviving the madness—because we’re in this together, right? 🎁✨

    Merry almost Christmas, besties. 🎅🎄

In this week’s episode of Good as New, we’re getting real with Jaj about the unique challenges of single parenthood. From navigating those tough kid moments without a partner to pass the torch to, to raising her fiercely independent little ones, Stevie and Charlie, Jaj opens up about the heartache and humor of doing it all solo.

But don’t worry, it’s not all heavy! We’re also diving into Black Friday madness: our favorite brands to watch, the deals we’re already scouting, and what you absolutely cannot miss. Plus, we’re sharing strong opinions on the hottest entertainment news: Why Wicked is the must-see musical of the season and why Moana 2’s new tracks aren’t exactly chart-toppers (allegedly).
Tune in, laugh with us (after Jaj cries), and cast your vote!

What A Privilege It Is Nov 19, 2024
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This week, we’re switching our internal dialogue. You know, the voice that groans about morning sickness, the endless laundry, or the chaos that comes with kids. Instead of “ugh, I hate this,” we’re flipping the script to: “what a privilege it is.” (Yes, really—stick with us.)

We talk about why seeing these challenges as privileges can shift your perspective and your mood. And we asked all of you about the privileges in your life and you came through big time!
In other news, John casually bought a plane (no big deal), we’re deep in our Friendsgiving era, and—drumroll please—tickets for our Girls Dinner go live tomorrow!
Grab your headphones and your gratitude (even if it’s begrudging), because this episode just might change the way you see your world.
