Allman Brothers Band legacy Nov 08, 2022
    Show notes

Director of Archives at The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House, John Lynskey, is a guest on the Goldmine Podcast, to talk about the importance of maintaining the band's great legacy with solid music releases every year, both live performances and studio work from the archives. The latest release, for example, being Syria Mosque.

A longtime rock historian, Lynskey is always an informative guest — so it's a worthwhile podcast episode to listen to, especially for an Allmans fan or anyone who appreciates rock history.

Rolling Stones songs: The good, the bad, and the underrated Sep 19, 2022
    Show notes

Playing off an online article that longtime Goldmine scribe Dave Thompson had written this month about the good, the bad and the underrated of Rolling Stones songs, editor Patrick Prince questions Thompson on his choices (and reasoning). For instance, Prince thinks "Street Fighting Man" might be the best rock and roll song ever written, Thompson thinks it's just plain "lazy." It's stuff like this that makes a pretty good (and fun!) episode of a podcast — the Goldmine Podcast! Listen to the episode!

Megaforce Records auction Sep 09, 2022
    Show notes

Backstage Auction's "The Jon and Marsha Zazula Private Collection Auction" runs through September 11, 2022. It's an auction officially endorsed by the Zazula estate, auctioning off the most personal items of Megaforce Records owners (Jon and Marsha Zazula) symbolizing their storied record business career. There are first pressings like Metallica's Kill 'em All debut and interesting items with crazy stories behind them (the keys to Metallica's stolen rental van). Also bands who served the heavy metal underground from the beginning, like Raven, Venom and Anthrax.

However, it's not all heavy metal. The Zazula's helped revamp the careers of Ace Frehely and Blue Cheer, and advanced the music of artists like the bluesy soul of Warren Haynes and the poppy Bif Naked.

As with all auctions that center on record companies, there's lots to be found for the music collector and music memorabilia maven.

Listen to the podcast and hear Backstage Auctions' owner Jacques van Gool explain auction items in detail.

Record Store Record visits Vertigo Music Aug 01, 2022
    Show notes

The Record Store Recon edition of the Goldmine Podcast puts the Michigan record shop Vertigo Music up for discussion after (somewhat) anonymous reporter Dr. Disc takes a trip there to review it. He brought guest Tom Trauma from the Punk Till I Die podcast along, and they come to the conclusion that this is probably the best store to go to in the state. Listen why.

Worst Beatles songs Jul 01, 2022
    Show notes

Let's face it, even if you re the biggest Beatles fan in the world, you have your least favorite Beatles songs. Basically, that is what we are discussing here in this episode of the Goldmine Podcast. Picking our 5 least favorite (worst) Beatles songs. These are the songs we usually skip over when we are listening to a Beatles record, CD, digital album or stream.

There's a catch. Dave Thompson, the guest host for this episode, wrote an article online in June describing his least favorite (worst) Beatles songs 1967-1970. So, this episode will center on Beatles songs pre-1967.

Listen and tell us if you agree or disagree.

As Dave Thompson puts it: Even the Fab Four had their off-days, you know.
